1 The beginning to something larger

"Mr Lu, I'd like to inform you that your deadline is coming up in two days and if possible, you should try and finish off at least a rough draft of your next chapter by tonight so we can review and edit it."

"Yes, yes. I understand... Yes! Alright, I'll send it to the email by tonight."

"Please do Mr Lu, we don't want a repeat of last week. The readers were so avid for the chapter they almost started a riot when they heard it would be delayed."

"Thank you, I'll talk to you again tonight."

*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*

The obtrusive sound of an ended call was quickly followed by the engulfing silence of the evening atmosphere. Lu Fengyi leaned backed into his seat, rubbing his tired eyes and stretching out the numbness in his legs. A symphony of cracking joints and relieved muscles exuded from his body before he leaned forward, hands reflexively resting upon the white, mechanical keyboard.

Lu Fengyi looked towards the screen, the only brightness within his dull room, peering intensely at the flashing cursor and the empty word document. Throughout the entire day, his hands had probably typed out hundreds, if not thousands of words, however each and every one was deleted without hesitation.

One might think that an author would have endless ideas and endless new phrases to entertain the audience with, however the truth was harsh. Lu Fengyi, just like those avid readers, once thought that authors had it easy, writing the topic off the top of their head and gaining the admiration and consent from the readers, however as he began writing his own fiction, he had been met with the largest wall in his life.

True, the readers enjoyed his work.

True, he loved to write for the readers.

False, he had boundless ideas to write about.

Each minute, each hour, stretched his mind beyond belief as he struggled to come up with original, non cliche, imaginative ideas that would please his readers. Finally, his mind block dissipated a little, his hands began to move again and the words begun to spring with life upon his screen.

A little less than an hour later, thousands of words had already been inputted upon the screen and Lu Fengyi's hands finally parted from the sweat layered keyboard. He realised that his mind had begun to go blank, throbbing with an intense pain that settled around his temples.

"I guess this is what happens when you overwork yourself huh?"

Lu Fengyi collapsed onto the floor, hand holding desperately onto the edge of the table. With an immense effort, he pulled himself up onto his knees, pressing his index finger against the enter button upon the keyboard. Just as the enter key sunk down, sending off the completed work, his vision went black, leaving his body to fall prone upon the dusty carpet.

*Ding*

The computer screen lit up with the sound of a successful email before dimming back down.

Supernatural, one might say. Or even fantastical.

Lu Fengyi's resting body began to pixelate into colourful particles. Little by little at first, however before long, every inch and every atom of Lu Fengyi's being began to formulate into colourful dots, floating above the sweat-stained keyboard. As the final vestiges of his physical existence dissipated into the floating balls of light, the screen lit up with a flash, pulling the particles in like a vortex.

Minutes later, the final strand of coloured light entered into the computer and the screen turned black once more.

A voice, not loud, nor soft, sounded within Lu Fengyi's reformed consciousness.
