79 Killing the Ogre

Quickly sprinting up to the top of the hill, Lu Fengyi peered down before widening his eyes in astonishment. Generally, players who did not know each other would not give each other excessive aid, sometimes even treating strangers with suspicion, however right now, fifty odd people had teamed up against the leader class Cave Ogre that Lu Fengyi had seen earlier. While it wasn't uncommon that guilds and parties would band together to fight against mobs, Lu Fengyi knew from before that the players below had come in separate groups, meaning that it was more likely than not that they did not know each other, yet they were collaborating effectively to take down the ogre, benefiting everyone.

Amongst the attack force, a ring of knights with shields stood like a barrier around the ogre, preventing it from moving around while the fighters filled the gaps and struck at the ogre when they got the opportunity, taking care not to get hit or to take the aggro. Surprisingly, there were also several thieves stabbing away at the exposed parts of the ogre, whittling down the health to the extent of their ability. From there, mages and priests stood dozens of metres away, raining basic fireballs and heals upon the epicentre of the battle.

Glancing at the hitpoints of the ogre, Lu Fengyi realised that the group had already done over 50% of the ogre's health, now entering the more difficult stage of the battle. While ogres were not much different from other boss mobs, and only entered their berserk state when they were lowered to 10% , this ogre had an additional buff that activated at half health, granting it a 5% increased chance of performing critical attacks against all players.

Just as Lu Fengyi had expected, it wasn't long before the ogre swiped twice towards one of the encircling tanks with its large club, instantly depleting the player's health before the priests could heal him back up due to a critical attack. With the opened opportunity, the ogre stepped into the temporarily disrupted encirclement before bashing down two assassins and a warrior, causing them to retreat as fast as possible.

Spells continued to rain upon the ogre and its health continued to fall at a slow, yet steady pace. Thankfully, although there was a significant level gap between the mostly level 2 players and the level 6 ogre, the natural regeneration and defence of the ogre was not able to overcome the flow of damage, slowly whittling away at its 250 health.

While the group had almost suffered heart attacks when the tank was struck down with a single attack, they were able to maintain their cool and continue the arduous task of bringing down the ogre. No only was it a test of their mental endurance, but also their efficiency in using mana, so that they did not run out and be rendered completely useless.

Slowly, the ogre's health began to fall as the players persisted with their continuous attacks and only minutes later, the health bar had already reached 11%, the moment before all hell broke loose.

10%...

Suddenly, the ogre's skin glowed a luminous red and a powerful aura radiated intensely from the beast. Although the players were unable to see the effects of the change, they could clearly feel the difference between the ogre seconds ago and the one they were facing now.

Seeing the ogre move towards the mages, one of the knights sent out a basic taunt skill before blocking its path, raising his shield high in defence from the large club, however in the blink of an eye, the tank dispersed into thousands of particles, disappearing from the battlefield.

Having over 150 health at level 3, even though he was a tank, was not an easy feat, and yet he had just been one shot by the boss. There wasn't even a critical hit!

Everyone's faces grew unsightly as they witnessed the scene, however they had already committed to the attack, so there was no reason not to continue pressing the attack. They most important goal right now was to kill the boss as fast as possible, trying to minimise losses to the best possible result.

Manoeuvring themselves to more favourable positions, the mages continued firing spells upon the ogre as it lumbered around at great speeds, lynching players left and right, regardless of them being a tank or not.

Before long, over half of the players had been wiped out, leaving only two tanks, a handful of priests and the rest mages, and yet the ogre's health had only decreased by half. From a direct outlook, it seemed as if they would just be able to finish killing the boss, however due to their current reduced DPS against the boss, it was certain that they would be wiped!

Just as the players began to despair, watching as the ogre approached them once more, a valiant figure dashed forwards at extreme speeds, passing by all the other players before lunging quickly towards the ogre before rolling to the side, narrowly avoiding the downwards strike from the club.

With a shout, Lu Fengyi activated Sleeping Shadow before backing away as fast as possible.

"Go tank it now!" Lu Fengyi yelled to the other players.

Sample Jam, one of the highest levelled and skilled tanks in the attacking force nodded before charging straight towards the boss. It wasn't that he trusted Lu Fengyi's words, but it was more like he would be killed eventually if he didn't do anything anyways. Since that man had appeared and yelled for him to tank, he could only pray that he hadn't been duped into a death that would come only seconds earlier.

Lifting his shield to face the falling club, Sample Jam closed his eyes in hope, not daring to watch his health bar and expecting to be sent instantly to death, however his expectations were not met.

Although Sample Jam's health had dropped all the way from 154 to 16, it was a definite fact that he was still alive. Instantly, his health was healed all the way back to full as he was the only one in need of the healing, just in time for another swing of the club.

Sample Jam took a breath of astonishment. It it were before, there was no way that he would have survived the hit, however now he could tank it once, allowing the priests to heal him up to full and effectively stalling the boss out with his built up aggro. Not daring to cast his thoughts elsewhere, Sample Jam focused on the boss, not letting his guard down in the least.

The mages were not slow the react either, casting their most powerful spells that required channel time using the time bought by Sample Jam. Just as the Sleeping Shadow effect ended, tens of gleaming spells hurtled towards the boss, shaving away the last of its health before allowing it to drop dead upon the floor.
