76 Class Change

After grinding out mobs with the dagger for half an hour, Lu Fengyi switched over to his beginner staff before beginning to channel a basic magic blast towards the enemy before him. Although he was a Shadow Priest as of now, that did not mean that he was limited to only using a staff. Technically, all weapons that did not specify were usable by any class, it was just that the user would not have any skills to go with the weapon, rendering it useless if they were of a different class. As of now, Lu Fengyi only wanted to test his skills, so whatever weapon he used did not matter much to him.

A hurl of magic swirled towards the large lizard, spiralling painfully into its hide before dissipating, shaving away tens of hitpoints as it did so. Side stepping to clumsy lunge attack from the enemy, Lu Fengyi backed away several meters before casting another spell and dodging to counter attack.

A string of numbers began to appear upon the lizard's head, and before long, the beast fell upon the floor, scattering into light particles. Not only that, but a halo of holiness shined upon Lu Fengyi's character as his experience bar was pushed past its 100% mark.

Glancing at his experience bar, Lu Fengyi realised that he had levelled up from his previous grinding, now a fully fledged level 2 player. Unlike other MMORPG games, he did not gain extra skills when levelling, but instead, in Conviction, one would have to find the skill books from drops and chests in order to obtain them. This was also a big reason why joining a guild would give large advantages like being able to locate skill books that one would need from another who did not need it.

Lifting the staff once more, weighted it within his hands before shaking his head. While using the staff was much easier than wielding a weapon, it was far from being exhilarating. Although it was true that he was going for winning the duel, it was still an important factor that he enjoyed his time inside the world, learning as much as possible while he was here. Otherwise, what was the point of using the Fictional Transcension System?

While extremely rare, there were still cases of mages using daggers in times of need or simply for the fun of it, however there was never a case of mages requiring a sword. While Lu Fengyi longed to test out the feel of a sword, there was simply no sword that was class requirement free, meaning that there was no opportunity for him to even try to use one. Shrugging to himself, Lu Fengyi knew that although he was unable to try out the sword, he would not be picking the Dark Knight, as he most definitely did not want to be a tank for others. The most fun would either come from blasting people with intense debuff magic from afar, watching as enemies burned to cinders under his magic, or quietly waiting for perfect opportunities before striking, killing the enemy in a swift stroke.

'Whatever. I know I can wield the staff fine, however I should try out the dagger again...' Lu Fengyi set himself towards the mobs once more, this time, brandishing his dagger.

Hours later, hundreds of mobs had already fallen to the ground and Lu Fengyi's experience bar had already risen to 98% to levelling. If he were to kill a few more, it was likely that he would never get the opportunity to select these classes again.

While his dagger skills had definitely increased by far, it was still much more comfortable when he used the staff. Of course, that was a given, due to how easy the staff was to use, however Lu Fengyi knew within his heart what he was going to choose already. While it was terribly boring to go the path of an assassin like the main character had, it was the only one of the three special classes that truly appealed to him. Sure, the mage offered large scale debuffing effects and would turn out a priceless asset to any guild wars, its initial levelling was slow beyond belief and could only be carried by other members. If on the off chance, he was unable to find some decent teammates, it was only a matter of time before he fell for behind Ji Xun, something that he couldn't allow, no matter the cost.

Opening up the messaging option, Lu Fengyi clicked upon his previous conversation before confirming his thoughts.

{ I select the Shadow Assassin. }

Ding! A response had been fired back already.

{ Class selection has been complete. Please stand still and we shall change your class. Do you wish for any fancy effects to appear? }

Of course, not wanting the surrounding players to become suspicious of him, Lu Fengyi replied with a denial before standing absolutely still. A silent course of energy seemed to twist and turn within his veins, and before long, the feeling spread to his entire body, lasting a couple of seconds before stopping to the sound of a notification.

And with that, the conversation dulled, indicating that there was nobody on the other side anymore.

Opening up his player profile, Lu Fengyi confirmed that he had indeed changed class, and not only that, but his beginner staff had disappeared, now replaced by a rusty dagger named Ruined Dagger of the Shadows. Quite the extravagant name for a dagger with basic stats comparable to all the other beginner equipment.

The original ball of magic skill that he had begun with had been replaced by a simple slash icon and his original health bar of 100 hitpoints had decreased to 70 hitpoints. 'Shit, dude! Isn't a 30% change in health a little too much? And I was originally a squishy mage as well...' Lu Fengyi stared in disbelief at his tiny health bar.

Sighing to himself, Lu Fengyi decided that the best way to test out the new class would be to continue farming. From the original novel, Lu Fengyi knew that Conviction servers were only open from five in the afternoon till nine the next morning. This was to allow those who had work to not miss out as much on game time, keeping the player base as even as possible. Still though, these times gave everyone a solid 16 hours to play the game, allowing even the avid gamers to be satisfied with the times available.

Walking towards an enemy several meters away, Lu Fengyi felt himself being carried forwards much faster than he had anticipated. If he didn't react in time and kept walking, he would have crashed into the lizard due to miscalculation of his speed. Shocked at the obvious difference, Lu Fengyi quickly opened up his profile and navigated to his stats. There, he saw another shock since his arrival in this world. When he was still a mage, his speed was at the base stat of 3.5, while thieves would have a base speed of 5.0, however his current speed exceeded the other two options by far, boasting a magnificent 7.5. Even if it wasn't twice as fast like the numbers indicated, it still felt like a good 20-30% faster than when he was a Shadow Priest.

Right off the bat, he had been provided with such stats, Lu Fengyi couldn't even begin to imagine his power many levels down the track. Maybe he would even be able to assassinate the future leader of the behemoth of the Viridian Empire, Nie Yan himself!
