Chapter One - "Raging Old Wars"

Ferif trotted across the river bank, her gaze set ahead. She dodged some sharp rocks placed by the river bank, twigs snapped as she ran. She lept over a boulder, almost falling over but catching herself. She slipped between two trees into a clearing, foxes who lay in the middle of the clearing stirred as she halted to a stop, skidding up dirt. Ferif panted heavily, shaking dirt off her soft orange pelt, her long ears shaking aggressively. She sneezed, her whole body shaking again. She dropped the mouse dangling from her jaws.

"I got one!" she yelped at the female fox still laying in the grass lump in the middle of the clearing. Ferif's tail swayed slightly.

"Ferif!" a stern voice called from behind her. Ferif turned swiftly around, being greeted by a dirty orange pelted fox with extra fluffy white bits. He snarled slightly at her. "I ordered you to stay in our den!" He barked at her. Ferif rolled her eyes.

"It was just one hunt, father!" She yipped back.

"I ordered you!" He boomed, stomping one paw into the dirt. "Your mother is sick and instead of helping me take care of her you're off running around!" He yelped again, titling his head to the female fox on the lump of grass. Other foxes where laying around her.

"Mother needs energy, food gives us energy father." Ferif yelped back, growling at her father. "How dare you growl at me, child!" He stomped once more, dirt puffed up, staining his white paws. "You've been banished to your den, Ferif!" He pointed harshly to a mud den with his snout. Fertif snorted, but went to the den and plopped down on the moss lump. It was damp. Ferif soon however drifted asleep.

Ferif awoke to shrill screams and roars. She leapt to her paws, ears pointed up. Her plain was being destroyed. Foxes put against hyenas. Some of the biggest foxes are losing against the vicious hyenas. Ferif's father was cornering the queen, who was protecting a baby. Ferif looked at the old barn sat in the corner of the plain, it was on fire. A hyena knocked over one of the oil lamps, and it somehow caught on fire. Ferif looked back at her father, who was about to jump on the queen. Ferif sprinted over.

"Father!" she yelled, but it was too late. He had bitten into her neck. Ferif watched as he ripped into her, the little hyena was looking away in fear. Ferif had heard the queen whipser something before she died. Ferif stood still, staring at the lifeless queen. Her father showed no respect for the queen, as he kicked dirt onto her then ran off to fight others. The little hyena opened her eyes and stared in horror at the queen. The hyena then looked up at Ferif in fear and disgust. The little one ran off once a soilder screamed "RETREAT!" Ferif moved from the body as others came to eat. "She was just trying to protect her baby,, she thought, staring at the foxes feasting.

"Ferif!" her father shouted. "Come help me treat your mothers wounds." He retreated into the den, and Ferif hesitantly followed.
