17 Part Seventeen

4 years later.

It's been 4 years since we moved to Florida. We all went to Florida State and all of us graduated with honors. We had our fun the past 4 years and me and Devon were better than ever. We both are happy together and it couldn't get any better than this. It was August and all of us recently decided that we move back to Lackawanna and Devon and I made a decision to move in together. We sent our stuff to our new place so we didn't need alot of stuff. Anaisa and Brendan had decided they become roommates so I was happy for them.

Today is the day we are leaving. We were all going to miss Florida,but it was time to go. Our parents don't know we are coming back so we are going to surprise them. We got on the plane and went back to New York and we were all happy that we were back. Devon and I wanted to go straight to our parents to surprise them so we said goodbye to Brendan and Isa and went to our old houses. All the memories of the houses started coming back to us as soon as we got there. "So how should we do this" I asked and he answered "Let's both call them on our phones and tell them we sent them a package and it's outside" and I said "Let's do it". So that's what we did. We called them up and told them a package is outside for them and then hung up.

We waited by our car and waited for them to come outside. When they both opened the door and saw us I swear their faces were priceless. We giggled and waved to them. They looked so surprised. They ran over to us and hugged us both. "What are guys doing here" Mrs.Heart asked. "We are moving back here" I said. "Really" my mom asked. "Yup in fact we are moving in together" Devon said. When they heard him say that they looked at eachother and we knew what they were going to do. So we quickly plugged our ears and they started to scream.

After they finally stopped screaming they literally dragged us inside his house. Through most of the day all of us just stayed talking about Florida and everything. But sooner or later we had to leave and go home, but before we left Devon talked to our moms alone for a little bit. We said goodbye and we drove to our new place. I was so tired that I fell asleep on the way there. I'm glad I have Devon because even though I fell asleep he didn't care. He just picked me up and put me to bed. He slept next to me in our bed and I curled up next to him. I loved this feeling being able to call him mine.

The next morning I woke up to the smell of bacon and some music. I got out of bed and went to the kitchen to find out what was going on. To my surprise it was just Devon being how he is every morning. He puts on the radio and rocks to any song while he cooks. He looks hilarious while he is doing it too. I stood there at the doorway of the kitchen and just watched him. I laughed a little and he noticed me standing there. "Oh please you can't laugh at me because you do it too see" he said and then he turned up the radio and my song came on. The theme song from the show Supernatural. "I hate you" I said and I started to sing along to the song."CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON. THERE BE PIECE WHEN YOU ARE DONE. LAY YOUR WEARY HEAD TO REST. DON'T YOU CRY NO MORE" then when the guitar came on , Devon and I went back to back with eachother and started to air guitar.

We both laughed at eachother and then Devon said "come on breakfast is ready". We sat at the table and Devon handed me a plate of eggs,bacon, sausage and toast. It looked really good. I took the fork next to me and began to eat the eggs. Devon gave me the newspaper and I began to read it while eating my breakfast. Then I saw something I never thought I would see. It was a picture of Mr.Rice and Mr.Daley and on top it said in bold print: 2 Lackawanna Teachers Leaving. I turned to the article and began to read. It said that Mr.Rice decided to leave teaching at lackawanna high school and go work at his studio full time and that Mr.Daley was retiring. "Oh my God Devon look at this" I said. Devon came to me and looked at the article. "Wow. They are really leaving" he said and I said" yeah I wonder what's going to happen with their jobs now" "they are probably going to hire people for it" he then said. "Maybe we should check it out" I said."Check out what?" he asked. "The jobs. Imagine it, we take Mr.Rice and Mr.Daley's place, we know them better than anybody so why not plus we need to start looking for work" I said. Devon thought about it for a little bit and then finally said "fine let's look into it, we can go check it out today" and I said "yesss". He laughed at me and said "but you have to eat first" and I said "yes mom" and we both laughed and ate our breakfast.

I finished my breakfast first and went and took a shower. That shower felt really good. I wrapped myself in a towel and went into the room. I went through my stuff that were still in boxes and found some clothes and put it on. Devon finished taking a shower and getting dressed and we left. Once we got to the school all the memories throughout high school came back to me. We missed this place so much. Surprisingly there were alot of cars here. We parked the car and we went inside. Apparently their was an event going on. When we got inside I noticed a picture of me, Devon, Isa and Brendan in the trophy case from football, but then I noticed someone that I knew would never change. It was my old English teacher. That woman never missed an event. She was always a part of it. "Babe I'll be right back" I said and he said "okay I got to make a call anyways".

She was talking to someone and I slowly came up behind her. "Mrs.Shuh" (pernounced as Shoe) I said and then she turned around. The person she was talking to left and Mrs.Shuh was definitely surprised to see me. "Well look at this Ms.Vell you look so grown up how are you" she asked."I'm good it's been a while since I have been here" I said. "Yes it has, so how's everything? Have you graduated college yet?" she asked. "yes in fact all four of us did Anaisa,Brendan,Devon and I, we graduated with honors from Florida State College " I answered. "Well that's amazing" she said. "If I may ask what is going on here" I asked. "Oh it's for the Way Off Broadway Players, they are doing this little show for money for the department" she replied. "Wow that's amazing I remember when I did it ,it was the best time and I'm glad it's still going on. Way off Broadway Players took me out of a bad place and I want it to continue so it could help others".

Mrs.Shuh looked at me and I could notice her eyes was watering. Then she gave me a hug and said "thank you" and I said "you're welcome". She let go of me and then I relized about the jobs. "Oh Mrs.Shuh do you know where the principal is" I asked and she answered "he is in his office" and I said "Okay thank you" and I went back to Devon,who quickly got off the phone,but I didn't question why. We both went to the principal's office and Devon knocked on the door. "Come in" a voice said on the other side of the door. I opened the door and we both walked in and closed the door. The principal was the same principal that we had in school, Mr.Taft. He looked a little surprised to see us.

"Well would you look at that,some of my two best alumni, Ms.Vell and Mr. Heart, how can I help you?" he asked. "We read the newspaper article today about Mr.Rice and Mr.Daley and we were wondering about the jobs" Devon said. "Really" he said. "Yeah. We were wondering if the jobs were available because we wanted to apply for them" I said. "Oh there is no need to apply. If you guys want the jobs, you can have them he said. "Really" we both said in unison. "Of course. You two were two of our greatest students and you guys certainly have your degrees for them, Devon can take Mr.Daley's place as gym teacher and football coach and Nicole you can take Mr.Rice's place as the band and chorus teacher and you could also assist Devon with coaching since you were also one our best football players besides Devon ,but if you guys are taking these jobs I need you to have these forms done right now" he replied. He gave us some forms and pens and we filled out the papers. We gave the forms back to him when we were done and he said" great welcome back to Lackawanna High School. I will have your class schedules and office keys sent to your address and I'll see you guys on the 5th of September for school. We shook his hand and said goodbye and left the office.

"Looks like we are going back to school. This should be fun" Devon said. "Yup and I'm glad we can do it together" I said and then gave him a quick peck on the lips. As we were walking out the door I noticed a piece of paper on the door. It was a paper about the Erie County Fair. The fair apparently started a couple of days ago. I became really anxious to go and said "Babe babe babe can we go please" as I pointed to the paper. "I want to go please please please" I said. I swear I looked like a child when I kept asking him. Until finally he said "Okay okay we can go,but why do you want to go" and I replied "because I want to see the marching band duh and I want fair food" and he said "Okay okay". I was so happy he agreed. "Then let's go" I said and I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the car. Devon and I got in the car and drove to the fair. We parked the car and I grabbed his hand and dragged him to the entrance and went inside.
