4 Chapter one: Anything but boring day

The next morning the men in black arrive to take Brooklynn. They had to spend the practically whole night packing. She only got the chance to call Ashley and Dena over the phone to explain the situation. Honestly wishing she could have saw her friends one last time before she has to go. But by this hour the girls must already be arriving at school.

She slowly makes her way to the foot of the steps as her Grandma and Grandpa exchange a few words with them. Once done her Grandmother signals the girl to come foward.

"When this is all over I get to come back home, right?"

"Oh course you do, Sweetie."

"Please take good care of her," Grandpa tells them, and the two nod in reply.

Her Grandma places her hands on her shoulders with a rare troubled look on her face. "I know this is scary for you but please be brave, Brooke. A lot is riding on this but you won't be alone."

"Our Brooke has always been a trooper. So go on and do what you need to make it back home safe, or your old Grandpa will go off on these detectives. Who's tellin what will happen to me then." She chuckles knowing he's clearing trying to add a little humor to ease her worries.

Brooklynn hugs them both tightly as they stay like that for a while, until she finally forces herself to break free. She's still in shock over all of this but they looked more scared than herself. Even if the girl has no idea what's in store she doesn't want them stressing about her safety at their age.

"I will come back home, I promise." Assuring as confidently as she can muster. With goodbyes having to end they wave as she follows the detectives out the door.

The two men lead to a limo parked in front of her house. This is her first time seeing one in person like this. "We're really riding in this?"

"Pretty sweet, isn't it? Go ahead and get in the back." The red haired man instructs, grabbing the passenger seat. Glasses guy takes the wheel as she opens the back door of the car to set her luggage inside first. Only to stumble back a little when noticing a boy about her age sitting on the opposite side.

"Hi there."

"H-Hello," she greets slowly, taking a seat and bulking up. Her mind is still all over the place but she's sure some boy was never mentioned to her yesterday. The teen has messy ginger hair and ocean blue eyes. Wearing a green and white plaid shirt that has a crest on it and badge pants. It appears to be some kind of school uniform.

"Where are we going? My Grandparents said it would be much better if you explained than they did."

"We're taking you to your new school." The red head answers, and that's what she was afraid of. So she really will have to transfer.

"Why can't I just go to my old school?"

"You have to go to a school in Chadlen for now. It will make things easier." The other man states, not taking his eyes off the road.

That means she won't be going to school with her friends anymore. If it isn't already bad enough she has to leave home. Brooklynn very much wishes this is all some crazy long dream, and she'll wake up to her normal life. Though knows that isn't going to happen.

"My name is Jerry just so you know, and this is Ron. We work with a special SP unit within the government that handles crazy disasters like this. And that boy next to you is Sonny. He will be your guardian and protect you on your mission."

"It's nice to meet you, Brooklynn."

"This is too much," she groans, sinking further down in her seat. Her eyes go to the window as she watches them drive past her now old school. They'll soon be leaving Ymirk Creek across to the bustling town several miles away from here. She could ask stuff like where will she be living now? Or if she does have powers how come she hasn't used them? But her mind can't take anymore surprises at the moment, and the rest of the way is drove in silence.

...

The limo soon pulls into a parking lot right in front of a large brown school building. There's a separate smaller one further behind it, and given the time not a student is in sight. "Here we are. This is Langfield boarding academy."

"Langfield?! I heard of this school before. It's a private school that's really hard to get into."

"Well we have that all taken care of." Jerry seems to boast proudly and she takes a moment studying the two men in front of her. They both look fairly young to be detectives, and wonders how long they've been on the force. The taller one known as Jerry has long feiry red hair in a ponytail and small orange eyes. The man next to him being Ron has wavy violet hair and black rectangular framed glasses. It already feels like to her that he is the thinker of the two.

Just before the kids can exit the vehicle Jerry stops them. "Oh! Your new name here will be Hira Collins."

"Hira?"

"Yes, it will be better if you go under a fake name until the mission is over. It will be...problematic for you to go by your real one. Like we said before your name is written on a wall inside the ruins of light. People living here can easily find out the name of the next Felixa chosen. And the press involving themselves in your affairs will just cause more trouble," Ron explains, and she slowly nods.

"Um, alright then."

"We know there is a lot your confused about, but we'll come back after school to explain all of this. Now get moving you're already late," Jerry orders, the two hurrying out the car.

The young teens walk inside the front doors and Sonny motions towards the right wing. "This way."

Going in the principal's office he is just finshing up a phone call as they approach his desk. "Sr, this is Hira Collins. The new student that was told to arrive today."

"Oh, yes, here is your schedule. Sonny can show you to your dorm room to put your belongings. We'll get a school uniform ready for you that has already been paid for, but you kids better head to class now. You can wear your clothes for today only because you're running so late. I hope you enjoy your stay here at Langfield, Hira."

"Yes, thank you." With that the pair leave the office. The minute the two step foot in the hallway Sonny takes the schedule right out of her hands. Completely ignoring her complaint as he studies it with a frown.

"I guess Ron did his best to get our schedules to match, but we still don't have the same fifth or seventh hour. It's unlikely they'd ever attack during then but still...All well, we can figure it out later. Let me show you to the dormitory so we can at least make it to our third hour in time."

She doesn't even get the opportunity to ask who would attack before he takes off back towards the entrance. After dropping her bags off in her practically empty dorm room, the two head to their third hour class.

...

Walking in the room the young woman stops her teaching as Sonny explains the situation. Brooklynn stands a bit away taking a look around the classroom. It's pretty full in there with almost every desk occupied and all eyes are on them.

"Okay class I'd like to introduce you to our new student," she announces, waving for the girl to come and join her. Brooklynn slowly walks over to woman's side. "Please welcome Hira Collins. She comes out of town all the way from Ymirk Creek. I'll be your history teacher, Ms. Kendall. I'll get you caught up after class but for now take a seat wherever is available."

Sonny automatically heads back to his desk as she looks around to find any free spot. The only unoccupied area is the one right next to Sonny's seat. "Of course."

"This must be real sudden to you, huh?" he asks, while she flops down in her chair.

"I'm just ready to do whatever I need to do here so I can go back home," she mumbles in response, as the teacher starts back up her lesson.

The classes go by painfully slow even with two periods missed. She lets out a long groan as the six hour bell finally rings. "Still two more classes to go. I'm more bored here than at my old school. At least there I got to chat with Dena and Ashley."

Though the school is small in size it is very fancy. With it's decorative blue wallpaper and shiny wooden floors. Even the uniforms are really cute compared to the ones at her old school back home. You can tell with just one look it must be worth a lot of money to go here.

Leaving the classroom she detoures to the bathroom before heading to her seventh hour. When coming out she didn't expect Sonny to be waiting against the wall with his arms crossed. "Took you long enough. Now I'm going to be late the time I make it to class."

"What are you even doing? You don't have to follow me everywhere!"

"I'm your guardian Brooke, I can't leave your side. Now let's go. I'll walk you to your classroom before going to my seventh hour."

Who gave him permission to call her by her nickname? Besides Ron just said it could be dangerous going by her real name. "You can't call me Brooke. Only my family and friends are allowed to do that. Besides aren't you suppose to be calling me Hira while we're here?"

"True, but that only applies when other people are actually around. And I think it's sorta rude your protector can't even be on friendly terms and call you by your nickname. Brooklynn is too long but if you insist I stop than I could always go for Brooky or Little lynn," he suggests, glancing at her with a smirk. Now he's just messing around.

"Fine! Call me whatever you want, frankly I don't care." Speeding up her pace so she can walk ahead of him. She can already tell this is going to be a long day.

Soon the final bell rings and they make their way over the dorm housing building behind the school. Just before entering the door Sonny slows down as his cellphone starts to buzz. Answering the call it's a few exchange of words before hanging up. Now with a sour expression on his face.

"What's going on?"

"Ron just called me. Something's come up so they won't be able to make it back here today. They'll stop by tomorrow."

"Oh, I see..." That means another day with no explanations. At least now she can try and get some rest this evening.

Walking inside the dormitory lounge alone is huge. It's laid out in violet and green colors similar to their uniforms. A desk placed in the front lobby where the dorm advisor sits to watch over things. Other facilities are down the right wing with rooms towards her left. Lastly a white spiral staircase leads up to the second floor. "I know we stopped in here this morning, but I still can't get over how decked out the place is."

"Well it's a big adjustment from public schooling. Oh, the dorm curfew time here is eight sharp."

"Huh? Why so early?"

"I'm sure you saw the monster attacks on the news. It's dangerous so they advice people to be careful when going out, and have a quick escape route if something pops off. Also minors are required to be in by a certain hour."

"That would make sense. I guess since those agents guys aren't coming today I'll be heading to my room." The burnette turning on her heels as she takes off down the left wing. Remebering her room is located at the very end of this hallway. Though to her annoyance a certain orange haired male is following behind.

Reaching her door she opens it only a crack before stopping dead in her tracks. Spinning at the speed of light she quickly blocks him from entering any further. "Absolutely not! Go to your own room. I need some time to myself."

"I can't do that. You don't know how to use your powers at all yet, so it's too dangerous to leave you on your own."

"Really, what can possibly happen? I want two seconds to myself in my room. Two seconds!"

Sonny takes a step back just outside her doorway. "One, two. Are you happy now?"

This immaturity is why she's never fallen for any middle school boys in her old neighborhood in the first place. "I'm being serious."

"Fine. My dorm room is right next door anyways. Have your time alone."

Brooklynn thought he's joking at first until he enters the room to the right of hers. Oh, but of course he isn't. She sighs slamming the door behind her.

Throwing down her book bag she only just realizes the furniture that's been set around the place. Her light pink dresser by the bed and stuffed animals set on top of it giving the room color. Matching floral curtains hung up and her long mirror opposite the closet. This is all without a doubt things from her bedroom. "Those detectives must of did it while I was at school." With the room this way does remind her a bit of home.

She flops on the bed picking up her blue stuffed rabbit. "Who knew he'd follow me around everywhere. Wonder how long it will take before I can go back home, or if..." No, she shouldn't think like that. Brooklynn promised her Grandparents she'd be alright after all. But with two dying on this mission previously makes the burnette fear her own success rate.

"I guess I should be doing my homework. It's way more here than at public school." Forcing herself up Brooklynn goes to do the homework at her desk. After unpacking all her clothes and coming back from the shower room, it's gotten quite late with it dark out. Still a tad early for sleeping usually, but with the exhausting day she's had is ready for some shut eye.

The girl changes into her pink night gown and sounds of scratching around the window causes her to glance back. "Sonny, really! Don't mess around with me..."

An uneasy feeling forms in her stomach as Brooklynn slowly walks toward the glass. Just moving the curtain she cautiously opens the window. Peeping her head out the girl doesn't get a chance to react before a hand reaches towards her.

(Sonny POV)

Reading Sonny suddenly hears a high pitch scream from his room. Leaping out of bed he slides next door to see the teen nowhere in sight, but the is window wide open. "No, Brooklynn!"
