Hi, I’m the current translator of Fei Tian (or Soaring the Heavens) Since the previous translation has stopped for more than a year, I stepped in (unofficially), mostly because I like this novel. Now, how should I review this novel…Normally I don’t really write reviews online. Well, to me, online xianxia will never ever be able to surpass ‘proper’ wuxia in the past, written by acclaimed authors like Jin Yong, Gu Long and the likes. If you have to compare, Jin Yong’s works are Michelin restaurant course meals, while online xianxia are instant noodles, or maybe McDonald’s at best. Fei Tian is a little better than instant noddles...Chinese takeaway I suppose? But It is quite difficult to give it proper tags. It’s an Eastern fantasy, but unlike many others (luckily), it has a proper, well-defined, easy to understand and remember cultivation realms. It doesn’t have many ‘techniques’ and ‘skills’. It doesn’t have blind fools challenging MC and wait to be face slapped. It doesn’t have a lot of plot armour, or deus ex machina popping out of thin air, everything was explained reasonably well. Basically, all things that were mentioned in the novel, they were mentioned for a reason, and every knot was untied at the end. Furthermore, even though it’s an Eastern fantasy, not everything can be solved by duking it out with the ‘villains’. It would be quite hard to find a proper villain in the novel, nothing is just black and white. Also, simply because it’s an Eastern one, there will be things, points of views, etc. that will not conform to the current world views, if you are easily offended, read it at your own risk. Technically, it should have a ‘Weak to Strong’ tag, but the author did a good job making it believable, no stupidly OP MC running around getting offended and face slapping people. As I mentioned, everything was there for a reason. Hell, at the very end of the novel, the MC is not even the most powerful character. It’s a harem, but it’s also not a harem. At least all the harem members have their own personality and characters. Their thinking processes are definitely deeper than a rain puddle. They think and behave in a believable way, not just be there for the MC to farm and put into his collection. You will find out more when you read it. Actually, not just harem members, every character in the novel does have a brain. It has its R-18 moments, but at least the author didn’t overdo it. Funnily enough, every time things started heating up, the author put in a note: [Anti-pornography, 10000 words were redacted.] Many readers rated this novel very low, and said it has NTR, which I strongly disagree with. Not every female character (and their mothers) should obediently wait for the MC to come and ‘collect them all’. The MC (and those who are close to the MC) should not be able to get everything they want. Like I said, every character actually has a brain. Back to the point, I don’t think there’s any NTR in this novel (quite a number of characters wear green hats though). A minus point of this novel is that it’s quite dragged out in the second part. It can’t be helped I guess, because the author created quite complicated and intertwined relationships and interactions between many many characters, so he needs a lot of time to untie all the knots. Also, because of these complicated and intertwined interactions, the second part of the novel put less focus on cultivation, it’s more about power struggle, schemes and plots, which I like. Your mileage might vary. So, my final verdict is that it’s worth a read. If you have to compare, I would say it’s kind of similar to Huang Yi’s ‘Da Tang Shuang Long’ (Great Tang Dynasty’s Double Dragons) and Xun Qin Ji (Looking for the Qin), there are a lot of schemes, plots, and feudal court power struggles. Just that this novel has another layer of xianxia on top of it. By the way, I will slowly translate this novel. But if there’s a point in the future when I can’t continue for whatever reason, I will upload a summary of the rest of the story, at least you will have some consolidation, so feel free to pick it up.

A continuation of the dropped translation of chinese webnovel "Soaring the Heavens". I really liked the style of this novel and its MC -for me it's something unique. I'm very grateful the the person who decided to send their free time to continue translation. (I gave 4 stars for the character design because I wish MC had more self-confindence in himself and well, we're just half way through the novel, there a lot of characters-I don't know how it will turn out)
