2 An Inhumane Attack

Nineteen years into the past the massacre of a whole village started a chain of unfortunate events. The first incident took place at sunset, during the fall season, in a village near the mountains called Apatite. Apatite village was a small village that was located near the bottom of Mount Cerulean. The mountain inner carves were lined with Apatite. The villagers would trade the Apatite stones, that were extracted from the surrounding caves, for food and other essentials. They were an isolated village, so a small group of villagers would travel to larger villages or towns to exchange the Apatite.

The villagers were peaceful people, so the sudden attack caused panic and chaos within the village.

No sound was made to announce their presence before the attack. They didn't release a roar, speak or stomp their large feet. They only smiled when their nose led them to an open buffet. The two entities that appeared from the forest were not human, although, they had a humanoid form. Each one had a massive body, legs that were so long that the top of their head were higher than the villagers' wooden homes. A large brown cloth, the size of a king size bed sheet wrapped around their waist, was the only piece of clothing that covered their bare skin. Their skin was tannish masked with many layers of dirt.

Other than its height the next alarming feature on the creature was its abnormal eye looking down on the villagers. The eye laid in the center of their head as if their two eyes merges together to make one massive eyeball. Looking up into it sent chills through their bodies, making them stop dead in their track shrilling in fear. The single eye gave a feel of murderous intent along with a famished gilt.

As screams where released into the air a malicious smile form across one of the creature's face.

Many villagers run away as their will to survive was stronger then the fear that tried to embrace their heart. Not all were as brave remaining rooted in place as fear started to devour their self-consciousness. Those poor unlucky souls were the first to be consume by the mysterious creatures. They did not have to exert much energy at first by eating only the ones frozen in fear. Once those villages were all consumed, they used their noise to track down the rest that had scattered through the village.

The noise and commotion caught the attention of some passerby that just so happen to be traveling hunters. Hunters…. not to be mistaken for the hunters that hunt wild animals. These hunters specialized in capturing and eliminating creatures of non-human origins.

Since the little Apatite Village was an isolated village, therefore, the people were not aware of any other species besides humans. So, they were also not aware that there were humans that dealt with these types of creatures.

All the hunters froze upon hearing the horrific screams and cries towards the west. The team leader immediately took charge forming gestures with his hands signaling some of his men to go check out the source of the commotion.

After the two groups parted, the rest of the group continued north focused on their main objective. They received a mission which led them to that part of the terrain. They were task with finding and capturing a hellhound young. If they were able to take the hound it would make a perfect guard. Another hunter reported that some were spotted inside Willow Dusk forest which was not far from Mount Cerulean.

The three hunters whom headed west to investigate decide to dash through the forest in the direction of the screams. With their physical fit bodies and abundant amount of stamina it only took them ten minutes to reach the located area. Looking down from the hillside they saw the destruction of a small village.

One of the hunters took a step forward to head down for a closer look but was stop by one of the older hunters. This young hunter wore a confused expression on his unkempt face. Clearly, they were needed, and they needed to take action now. The slightly handsome middle-aged Hunter looked at the young man while shaking his head.

The second middle-aged man immediately figured out why his friend stopped their young comrade. He looked forward surveying the land when he saw two large creatures roaming about the village. He gulped feeling the hairs on the back of his neck standing up. A sudden memory flash through his head remembering the last encounter he had with this type of creature.

This type of creature was placed in the B Class level of demons. Due to their singular eye they were given the name cyclops. Even though they didn't have the best eye-sight, their strength and sensitivity to smells should not be look down upon.

The second middle-age man took out a piece of paper, wrote a quick note then whistled for his eagle companion. In a matter of minutes, an eagle soared down from the sky landing on his right arm. With ease he tied the note to the eagle's leg then lift his arm to gesture his companion to report back to the head Hunter.

After the bird took flight, the three Hunters started to discuss a plan on how they would avoid the Cyclops, so that they can search the village for any survivors. For the next hour they remain on top of the hill looking down at the village, observing every movement that the Cyclops made. The village fell silent during this time period, so they assume that the Cyclops would leave now that both of their bellies were full. However, that was not the case. The two instead found a comfortable within the village to take a nap while they're food digested.

Realizing that the Cyclops would make this mountain their new home they went with Plan B: to quickly search the village for any survivors while they slept. They cover their self in mud just in case before splitting up to search among the houses that was not destroyed first.

After searching for over fifteen minutes they finally came across a living person. The person was a little girl trapped inside a well. Covered in water from the waist up her eyes were red and full of tears while her hand was covering her mouth. The oldest Hunter instantly reached for his rope, attached to his belt buckle, to tie it around the waist of his young comrade. He signaled to him to remain quiet as he proceeded down the well.

With swift and agile movements, he jumped into the well sliding down the inner walls to the little girl. He smiled at the little girl offering his hand as he pushed his finger against his lips. The little girl nod trying to hold back her sobs and tears as she reached her hand out to embrace her savior.

Feeling that they done all they could do for the village, they left Apatite village with the little girl in tow to regroup with the rest of their party. On the journey the little girl fell into a deep slumber on the young hunter's back, after all her emotions finally subsided.

It didn't take long for the three hunters to catch up to their other comrades. Upon arrival they noticed that they had already completed the assigned mission and was just sitting by the river bank waiting for them. Hearing their oncoming footsteps their leader stood up looking towards their direction. He's eyes scanned the three fellows until he noticed an additional person. He stepped forward meeting them halfway before he spoke.

"It seems we have a survivor. Was she the only one?" asked their leader with a deep and strong voice.

"Yes, sir. She was the only person that we found alive. Both creatures fell asleep after they had their fill. We found her trapped within a well," reported the oldest hunter.

"I see.....," whispered their leader. He paused for a minute as he looked up grieving for those that was lost. Then he looked back at his men returning to his strong demeanor. "Good work men. Let's head back. Our mission is complete and this little one shall become a part of our rank. Someone bring her a blanket. We leave at dawn," the leader instructed with authority dawn with a victorious grin.
