Night assault (1)

Gerhard arrived at the wood edge. He walked calmly, while trying not to act suspicious. He entered the forest, as one of his subordinates gave him some hand signs. Gerhard understood those instantly and knew they were followed.

"Rosch was right. The Goblin family wants him and his females dead. Good, finally a real fight. I was getting tired of fighting animals and monsters.", Gerhard thought while a smile rose on his face.

"Listen guys. We will fight somewhere were their numbers will not matter. We have got enough equipment for almost every possibility they throw at us. Follow me, I know the right place.", Gerhard said silently as they went along the forest edge.

After some time, Gerhard suddenly walked the mountain up again. The place he went up to was some kilometers away from the village. This was a place he often hunted with his parents.

He went up a bit, disappearing suddenly. He waited behind a rock with his subordinates. He gestured to be silent, while taking his bow out. The other five did the same. They waited behind the rock for a minute or two, till they heard voices.

"Fuck, they suddenly went up the mountain. I think we lost them, great warrior Sumba.", a high-pitched voice said from down the mountain, while 25 Goblins searched for a trail. One of them was a Hobgoblin. He stood out the most with his 1,80 meters, while the rest was around 1,20 meters. Most of them should be of the footsoldier rank, maybe some warrior ranks in it, but the great warrior would be the one they had to be wary of the most, since he is the most dangerous and Gerhard knew that.

As the Goblins went further up the mountain, a scream was heard. One of Sumbas subordinates screamed, because an arrow striked him in his eye socket.

"Fuck, an ambush. Everyone spread out.", Sumba shouted, but it was to late. The first volley of arrows hit dead center killing three instantly, while two got hurt badly.

Sumba held his shield up, just like his warriors, but the footsoldiers were killed one after the other, volley after volley. You could hear screams of pain, while Sumba slowly seeked out the place, where Gerhards arrows came from.

Ten Goblins were already dead and another four are hurt badly. It was to easy, but suddenly the arrows stopped coming and everyone was happy.

"Finally, they must have emptied their arrows. All of you go up and attack. We will skin those Moonwalkers alive.", Sumba said enraged. It was his first mission, which was under his command.

The now 15 Goblins that were left, run up from where the arrows came from. But nobody was behind the stones, as suddenly two spears pierced the throat of the first two Goblins that came to close to some bushes between two huge rocks. Sumba, who was at the end of them all, looked shocked.

"What is going on. That little Moonwalker family head should be strong and fast, not cowardly attacking from blind spots. That is more the attacking pattern of the human mixes.", Sumba thought, as another two Goblins of his screamed. Those two were shot with arrows, which came from the bushes just like the spears.

" Stop it, warriors shields out. Close in slowly, while trying to destroy the bushes. Footsoldier stand behind the warriors ready to take action.", Sumba order his last eleven warriors, which were now less than half with 6 warriors and 5 footsoldiers left.

Warriors had shield and sword or shield and spear. They specialized in a weapon most of the time. Footsoldier were almost the lowest rank, only slaves and pawns are of lesser rank. Footsoldiers use swords or clubs, as weapons since they can't afford much more.

The five warriors were already cutting down the bushes, while a meter high and a bit wider than 1,50 meter tunnel showed up. It was very dark inside and as a warrior looked inside, an arrow pierced its head between the eyes. The others got scared holding up their shields. But nobody came out.

"Fuck, they want us to come in, where our numerical superiority isn't of any use. Two Goblins side by side will go inside." Sumba ordered enraged. They are just children in his eyes, but being that shrewd was something he couldn't believe.

They went deeper and deeper. After some time they saw light and were shocked.

" Something isn't right. We can see the light already. I thought they wanted to fight inside this small tunnels, but something is of.", Sumba thought as he had to crawl on all fours because he was to big for this tunnel.

He crawled a bit further, as he felt a liquid on the ground. It was starting to get wetter and wetter, as Sumba stopped. His eyes got big, while saying ," Fuuuuuck they tricked us again. That is alcohol from the Jova-fruit. We will burn to death.", his shout was loud and the other Goblins were shocked, since the Jova-alcohol was odorless.

The Goblins in front started to run and Sumba went backwards with 3 other footsoldiers.

The light that they saw far away came closer fast and as they realized that it was fire, they became terrified.

The Goblins in the front turned around and started to scream, while Sumba on all fours was to slow.

The fire reached the first one and terrible screams of pain and death came from the tunnel. Gerhard and his subordinates where standing at the tunnel's entrance.

They went out on one side, while two of them waited there, the others with Gerhard went to the other side of the tunnel to stop them from fleeing. The two Goblins waited till they heard voices from the tunnel and burned the alcohol. It burned its way into the tunnel, letting no one escape from their side.

On the other side, Gerhard waited.

"Dump idiots. Who would have thought that they all together would enter. I wanted to jump the few ones that waited outside.", Gerhard thought completely unimpressed from his opponents foresight.

The screams got weaker and weaker, but the burning didn't stop. Gerhard and his subordinates waited for the 2 human mixes on the other side, but before they came sounds from the tunnel were heard.

Gerhard looked surprised and gestured everyone to take out their weapons.

They surrounded the entrance and waited.

"Gahhh, shit that hurts. Haaaa haaa haaa ahhh fuck.", Sumba hissed in pain, trying to be silent.

His rear was looking out first, since he couldn't turn around inside the tunnel. He was finally seeing light that didn't burn, but screamed in pain again. Four spears pierced his body. One each in his legs and two into the spine.

"Gyaaaahahhhh, fuckkk. You little shits. You will all die.", Sumba screamed in pain. He got enraged and wanted to kill someone, but Gerhard didn't let anything to luck, destroying Sumbas spine.

Sumba was dragged out and thrown against a stone. His face, arms and chest were burned horrible. No hair and skin was seen only charred and bloody meat pieces, but the Hobgoblins vitality was shown in their resilience against such wounds.

"So I was right. Moonwalkers and Human mixes are working together.", Sumba said weakly. He was dying already, but was still shocked that two families started to work together.

" Not really working together, more working under him. It's just my subordinates and myself. The rest of the family is just in a business partnership with him. ", Gerhard said looking down on Sumba. He was still alerted.

Sumba got shocked again.

"Hahaha, he got someone from another family working under him. That Nightwalker brat is good, but why isn't he here? Don't tell me he went alone against the Nightwalkers?", Sumba asked in disbelief.

" You should know that the few of you wouldn't be an opponent for Rosch. Wait don't tell me that this was a suicide mission. You wanted to take him down with you. How did you want to do it, with poison?", Gerhard said a bit surprised that they would go so far from the get go.

" Goddammit, you even guessed that right. Yes we wanted to poison him, but I couldn't even poison one of you, everything burned inside the tunnel. But to think that he guessed our attack. He is as scary as his father. The shrewdness of the Goblins and the power of the Nightwalkers. And now his son, who to the shrewdness and power got magical powers, too. Not forgetting having already a brilliant subordinate like you, that played me like a fool. I just thought I would fight some kids and poison the family head, that's it. Still his females that are so important to him will all die today. ", Sumba started to say with a smile at the end.

" Those who are attacking the Moonwalkers base will have an even harder fight than you. Gorker is protecting Rosch's females. ", Gerhard said with a smile, while waiting till Sumba's eyes almost jumped out of his burned face from shock, stabbing Sumba into the face with all his might.

" Good guys, job well done. We will plunder everything that we can. From the Hobgoblin only the weapon is usable the rest is to burned. The same goes to the Goblins in the tunnel, their stuff is burned even worse. We will plunder all the other Goblins on the way and since the night is still young let's hunt some animals. ", Gerhard said not satisfied with the little skirmish they had.
