8 08. Since when did Big Brother learn how to cook?

While Zach had no books to teach him about the world in his room, the same couldn't be said about the mansion's Library.

He could go into the library and read as many books as he wanted but doing that would take a pretty long time.

This world was a bit different than most other fantasy worlds he had read about.

Aside from this world's setting being in an urban fantasy setting, there was also advanced technology in this world.

This meant that there were devices like phones, tablets and other things.

So using one of these gadgets would make things a lot easier and faster.

With his mind made up, Zach determinedly walked out of his room and towards the library where there was a tablet with free access to the internet for anyone to use.

He continued to walk through the long corridor, and to his surprise, he noticed Luna walking in his direction.

She didn't look as cheerful as she had been when she left his room a couple of minutes ago.

"Luna? What's wrong?"

Luna slowly raised her head and replied. "I couldn't show anyone the portrait. The only ones left in the house right now are you, me and big sis Aurora, but she's currently asleep in her room."

"What? Really?"

Luna nodded her head in response but then her stomach growled and a sudden silence filled the air between them.

Out of all the people currently living in the mansion, only one person was in charge of cooking, and that was Jade. This was because she was the only one who could actually cook, however, she was still at work.

Zach could see that Luna was really hungry. The only meal she had eaten today was breakfast, so there was no doubt that she was craving something to eat this evening. However, due to the limited amount of food in the house, she kept her lips sealed and didn't tell anyone.

Moreover, no one in the house could cook for her even if she told them how hungry she was, but what kind of a big brother would Zach be if he couldn't whip something up for his little sister to eat?

He simply couldn't watch his cute little sister starve when he knew that he could do something to change that.

Zach clenched his fist and walked straight to the kitchen. He didn't want to see Luna hungry ever again.

Recently, she had been growing very thin, and this was because she had been eating only once a day for the past two weeks. Tonight would have ended up being the same once again, but Zach was determined to make a change.

"Big brother, where are you going?" Luna's cute voice sounded confused behind Zach as she tried to match his pace.

"To the kitchen. To make something for you to eat," He replied while hastening his steps.

"Huh? Since when did Big Brother learn how to cook?"

Zach didn't reply. Instead, his lips simply broadened into a smile as he anticipated the look on Luna's face when she tasted his food for the first time.

He couldn't pinpoint exactly where this sudden confidence in him came from, but he was certain that it was because of the system he had by his side, and with its aid, Zach was going to make the best dinner Luna had ever tasted.

Luna tried her best to catch up to Zach, but he was walking too fast for her legs to keep up with him. She tripped on her feet and was about to land face-first on the ground when Zach turned around in time to catch her. He held her hand and reduced his pace as they both walked towards the kitchen.

When they arrived, he then began to search high and low in the kitchen for food, but all he could find were three small bags of rice.

Seeing this, Zach was delighted.

One bag was enough to satisfy four people. However, if everyone were to be present in the mansion, then they would definitely need two to three bags at least.

With that out of the way, Zach quickly tied a white headband around his forehead, then washed and rinsed the pots and other cooking utensils he would need. He poured some water and a few grains of rice into one of the pots before lighting the stove.

The stove was powered by mana. It used mana stones rather than gas or electricity.

Luna, who was watching Zach's movement very closely, asked in a worried tone. "Big brother, are you sure you know what you're doing?"

Luna was already impressed by how Zach was concerned enough to come to the kitchen to make something for her. But if he actually didn't know what he was doing, then there was no point trying to impress her, especially if he ended up wasting valuable food before her big sisters returned home.

"Yes, I am sure. Just sit back, relax and watch me cook," He assured her and Luna nodded obediently.

She stood back and kept quiet, then she carefully watched Zach as he walked around the kitchen, in search of some oil and vegetables to make a vegetable porridge.

He managed to find a stalk of vegetables and a cube of lard in the oil can. He then rinsed and swiftly chopped the vegetables.

His movements were fluid and precise, almost as though he had a decade of experience in being a chef.

His mind was calm and relaxed as he arranged everything he needed for what he wanted to do next.

Feeling excited by what she was seeing, Luna couldn't contain her curiosity.

"What are you making?"

"Porridge. You love it right?"

Upon hearing the word porridge, Luna began to crave it. She couldn't remember the last time she had tasted any porridge and since she could still recall its aroma, Luna smacked her lips and nodded excitedly in response with a smile on her face.

Seeing this, Zach smiled as well.

"Good. It will be ready in a jiffy," He ruffled her hair and Luna wagged her tail excitedly.
