5 Getting Familiar

Typing in the username she was happy to see that no one else had used it. The name was perfect for her since it was both unisex and powerful. Many people chose flashy names involving magic and animals but she preferred simpler names. The general was a leader in the military and held power in times of war.

V on the other hand was her way of playing around. With her new lease on life there was no way she could maintain a "good girl" persona. Having morals was for people with freedom and privilege. To survive there was no method less than murder that she would take. This was the main reason she named herself as V. She chose V for Villainess and it was her first step towards a new identity. A lowkey name with a lot of background to her.

Adding on, that it was better in general to keep her identity hidden and let them misunderstand she was a man. Setting up the rest of the profile she linked it to a dead email that could receive emails but not be tracked back to her. It wasn't hard to create an email with restrictions like that, there multiple providers online that catered to such interests. Though they were used for more illegal reasons it was perfect for her. Within a couple of moments everything was ready for her to use.

Scanning the screen she looked at the game's features. The game was rpg and included both single and group battles. If you joined a team you would be able to take on challenges together, gather equipment, and level up. Clicking a small toggle video she let it play the introduction video. What it did was explain the background to the game and showcased the storyline. The name of the world was Arcana and there was a prophecy given out by the oracle. That someone would be born and the strongest warrior of the land would be awarded treasures beyond imagination.

In addition to being the strongest they would be awarded the title - "King of Swords." It held strong similarities to the manga One Piece she had read. Where there was a hidden treasure and multiple parties fought to get the title of Pirate King. Though this game did have stark differences. The world itself was rampant with monsters with different danger levels, you had to defeat them to gain points. In this game world everyone was a warrior but there were four different sub species - mage, healer, assassin, and hunter. Depending on which class you chose you would be awarded different abilities that could be advanced differently.

Each of them had their own perks and negatives. Logically a healer was a great assist in a team battle but as a core one of the weaker species. On the other hand, an assassin was strong but weak against magic.

'Hmm which should I choose...'

It was imperative that she made the best choice to play the game. Yes, she wanted to gather information but she wanted to beat the game as well. It was in her to have a competitive spirit and now that she committed to the game, part of her wanted to excel in it. Crossing out hunter and healer her main two options left were between assassin and mage. There were positives in both but it was a hard choice.

The mage would allow her to develop powers but they are the slowest to advance. Killing monsters would not be enough, they would need to find potion books or power manuals that help advance their level. An assassin was skilled in hiding and utilizing weapons but could not use magic. If she was battling a mage her skills would have to be always more than their level to win. It was risky yet an attractive option. Fiddling her fingers she waited a couple of seconds before finally clicking on assassin.

The screen buffered as her character was created. A basic assassin model appeared with options to customize its features. She chose a male bodied character with dark purple eyes. Giving the character black short hair and the automatic nose lips combo. The clothes given were a general black tshirt with pants and a leather jacket. The assassin characters came automatically with a mask and small daggers attached to their hip. She wanted to be more adventurous with the designing but it was better to be forgettable in the role of an assassin. Clicking "done" the screen loaded again before she was placed in a random location. It was surrounded by random others but of the same class.

"Is this a beginner tutorial?"

Ignoring the message popups between members she moved towards the stationary instructor. Clicking on the figure a speech bubble appeared above it. There was a brief statement explaining that they could learn how to move their character and what the keyboard controls. Once they had mastered the basic skills they were free to venture off into the game world to challenge monsters and go on quests.

Cracking her neck she felt some energy as she went through the emotions. Her fingers stumbled a bit on the keyboard before she became better at moving the character. The faster she moved the better it was. The tutorial included fighting a mini beast at the end, once she reached that stage she tried to defeat it quickly but failed. She suffered damage trying to fight it.

"Ugh the actions are easy but applying them is harder..."

Her eyebrows scrunched as she tried every move she learned to kill the beast. Moving side to side she used her speed to confuse the beast. Using that to her advantage she cut at it several times to decrease its HP. The main issue was although her skills were getting better her attack power for the basic strikes were too low. So she had to make many more cuts before she could finish it off. Using a couple more strikes she sighed in relief when she finally killed it off.

Relaxing a bit she let out a smile before a knock interrupted her.

"Its time for dinner come down."
