13 Caught in the Crossfire

'Oh no no no no.' As if on repeat that was all that was going through her mind as she watched the scene in front of her. A few minutes prior she was just surfing through her phone and enjoying a cup of coffee but within a few seconds she was dragged into such a big mess. She did hear someone shout out the words "wait" but paid it no heed. It was not until a coffee cup was shattered that she looked towards the noise and saw the cocky woman looking pale. Since the man had his back to her she could not see who he was but his aura was imposing enough. There were practically icicles around this man just from his voice and the way he stood. It was obvious he was not someone to mess with, from her seat she could tell he was dangerous. Maybe it had to do with her rebirth but her senses had become a lot heightened when it came to sensing people's auras. From her parents to this mysterious man, the danger levels were clear to her.

"Please feel free to tell her that I did this as well, if you think that any of your petty tricks would faze me then you are sorely mistaken."

By this point he had moved himself to face the woman directly letting her his side profile. His face was very familiar but in the moment she could not remember where she had seen him. The social parties and galas she had gone too felt so far away that she might have to spend some time running through everyone's names before the next one. Seeing him look around the room she quickly turned her head back down and to her phone. It was best to say out of the situation and be as inconspicuous as possible. Sipping her coffee she kept her eyes in front of her while her ears were focused on the fight. The curious part of her could not stay away from the drama in front of her. There was a dull silence after his words where she figured he was still looking around the room, what he was looking for she had no idea.

However, despite her waiting there was no other sound till she heard a set of footsteps heading to her direction. There was a slight uneasiness in her as the footsteps drew closer and closer, part of her tried to imagine the floor plan and determine if there was something next to her. A washroom or a table - something that he would go to that was not her but nothing stuck out. She kept her face blank and tried her best to stay calm. The footsteps that sounded like a death sentence stopped right in front of her, within a few seconds she could sense everyone's eyes on her from all directions. One of her hands kept scrolling on her phone while the other reached for her bag quickly intending on making a quick escape.

Yet as always, her luck was absolute trash.

She could vaguely smell a fresh cologne before she noticed someone bend down towards her. Turning her head slightly she just caught the back of his head as the mystery man leaned in next to her ear. The voice was slightly rough but pleasant to hear as he whispered, "sorry, let me bother you for a second." She barely even processed his words before she felt a gentle grip on her wrist pulling her into standing position. There was panic in her eyes as she realized what this man was intending to do, she had read this situation in many novels. The man would bring another women and pretend they were his girlfriend in order to steer away his ex-girlfriend or make them jealous. In these stories it was always a random passerby too, as if there was no other criteria other than being nearby at that unfortunate time. The worst part of all this, is that the women he pulled into the crossfire 90% of the time always suffered at the hand of the ex-girlfriend and was bullied for it. 'No no this can't happen to me!!" Her brain went into overdrive as a million different situations ran through her head, there was no way she could be caught in this with all of her problems.

As he pulled her upwards her hand was still inside her bag, her fingers lightly touched a fabric and immediately gripped onto it for dear life. Keeping her head down she let her hair shroud her face as she looked down at what she grabbed. Seeing a beige gucci handkerchief she almost wanted to cry. There was a quick slap noise that sounded as she frantically placed the fabric on her face. She barely had time to readjust it before looking up but thankfully at this point half her face was covered. Her other hand was still caught by the wrist and was scared of moving it and further drawing his attention.

Her eyes quickly scanned the room to see that everyone was indeed looking at them, the fiercest glare of all coming from the arrogant lady. It looked like she wanted her to die right then and there simply because of the man next to her. After all this attention she still did not know who this man was, sneaking a look from the corner of her eye she still only saw his side profile. 'Damn this man for being tall.' She always thought that she was a decent height but the mystery man towered over her without heels. His broad shoulder slightly covered her view as well, leaving her to only see partial glimpses but from the clothing she could tell he was rich. From the shoes to his dress shirt, they were all tailor made and by a famous tailor as well, the insignia was on the cuff of the hand holding her. Due to her mother being over bearing into fashion she was well aware of the different designers and how they each liked to showcase or infuse their signature into different pieces. 'While this man was abrupt, he at least had fashion taste.' She was about to guess the price of his outfit before she was interrupted by his words.

"Frankly speaking you disgust me. Your face, body, personality none of which are my type. Who you are means nothing to me, before today I did not even know your name. I would rather spend my time speaking to this woman here than you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than waste another second here. Stop me again and I will cancel all related projects with Yao industries. Do not test me further Ms. Yao."

Her eyes slightly widened at his words, the first sentence alone was cruel and completely stripping the woman of any face. Yet as he spoke his fourth line her brain was again turned into mush, 'don't tell me I am actually in a webnovel now??'
