3 chapter two

[Three days later]

Starring at my new phone in disbelief as I saw a message sent by Anthony to me.

"Make sure you pack up your belongings today. I have booked your flight for you tomorrow. "

Unprepared and happening so fast, I asked. " I thought it was going to be next week".

"Well you thought wrong, it is tomorrow", he simply replied.

Shit, I cursed under my breath.

"My chauffeur will be there by five a.m to take you to the airport. When you get there update me to be sent further instructions. "

"Wow, okay quite convenient, " I complained. Receiving no reply I decided to visit Jessica.

[Jessica's House]

After knocking for a while, my overly tall, red-haired best friend, finally came to open the door for me.

She was wearing a large green sweater, swallowing up her lanky body with her pale legs exposed.

Her nose ring glimmering under the room's yellow light.

Giving her a quick hug I swiftly rushed into her sitting room.

"Hey!, sorry for dropping by unannounced but we need to talk," I said talking as fast as I pace.

"Me too, I have some good news but go first, let me get water for you," she said as she walks towards the mini-fridge by the left corner of her small but overly arranged living room.

"Well I got a job," I said.

Excitedly Jessica jumps on me,

"Yay! that's good news, this calls for a celebration," As she runs to get a bottle of wine and glass cups from the room divider in her living room.

When she came back to see I was sad, she asks, "Are you not meant to be happy? Is the salary small? Or does the job involves cleaning dead bodies?" She curiously and teasingly asked.

"I am relocating to London tomorrow for the job."

Seeing her round grey eyes grow wide and sad, I immediately added.

"But it's only for at least three months, please tell me you are not mad". I spoke as fast I gulped on the wine.

"Oh, Kay. Wow, that's a piece of pretty big news to take in especially now.

I was planning on giving you the good news tomorrow but since you had insisted on visiting tonight, I wanted to inform you that Landon proposed to me and we plan on getting married in a month time but I guess my best friend would not be there to help me choose a wedding dress or worse she might not be there for the wedding." Jessica grumbled.

"Wow!, "I screamed excitedly.

"Congrats, "I said as I walked towards her to hug her.

"I am so happy for you both, so I guess that was the reason for the getaway huh," I teased.

"Am sorry I brought up such sad news about me leaving on your happy day. "

"It's fine, at least you didn't run off without telling me. "She said.

"Why on Earth would I do that?" I asked mildly annoyed she would think that of me.

"Am sorry, it's a joke". She apologized.

"Okay you know what I will not go for the job, I will just call the man and cancel on the job," I said.

"No no. Nobody is sacrificing anything for me. I can be a best friend too you do not have to be the only one sacrificing all the time."

"I will find another job that pays this well," I said trying to reassure her.

"Are you trying to convince yourself or me, cause it's not working on either of us, I see the way you struggle every day to provide for your family.

At sixteen you left school to take care of your sick mom. If this job could give you the break that you deserve, I have no right to take that away from you."

With tears filled eyes, I said thank you for her understanding.

"Ah, ah wait," Jessica says as she drops her glass on the small wooden centre table in her living room.

"There is a condition if you are to go for this job. One, you are to do a video call with me whenever am shopping for my wedding dress we choose it together."

"Done" I replied.

"And...you must be there for my wedding, you are my bridesmaid."

"Which other person was it gonna be girl! Done done done. " I replied excitedly.

"Okay then let's toast to a new job, marriage and new beginnings."

Pouring more wine for me as we raise our wine glasses to a toast, as we both sat on her L shaped soft sofa which marched with her white and purple wallpaper and beautifully arranged decorative ceramics in the long shelves located by the right end of the room.

"So," she said, "tell me more about this your job that wants to steal you away from me."

"Well, it's like every other PA job."

I said not wanting to go into details. "And it pays quite well," I added.

"I won't be owing anyone again if I do this job well enough, I replied.

"That's cool, am happy for you." She said genuinely.

"So are you planning on selling this house? Since you know, you are no longer a spinster."  I asked smiling.

"I know I have been thinking a lot about it," she said and waves of a tendril of her curls from her face.

"This house might just be a bedroom flat, but it's the first gift I bought myself when I got my first job."

She looked around the place again.

" I don't think I want to sell it. I was thinking; she said.

"Letting my cousin, Margo stay here while she does her P.H.D "

"Okay, I get it."

I said and hugged her tightly as I profess how much I will miss her and how I will kill Landon if he breaks her heart.

"I will you miss you too bish," she replies as I lay my head on her lap, enjoying the comfort of her hands sliding through my hair.

After a long night of drinking, we finally said goodbyes as I headed to my apartment which was a street away as I prepare for the following day.
