5 chapter four

Waking up late was bad luck, but my hair misbehaving this morning could be worse.

I tried combing the curly, black hair with my brush to get it to straighten out, with no ounce of success.

I tried one more time to bring it to behave with my brush, but still, it didn't straighten.

I wrinkle my brows in frustration, allowing the brush to harshly fall on the floor making a thud sound.

I gazed in the mirror to look at the caramel, dark-haired girl with almond-shaped brown eyes, and a petite body, starring back at me.

Well, I give up.

My only option is to restrain my stubborn curls hair to a two bun style.

Jessica is calling to check up on me and to also remind me that she was travelling a city away to stay with her boyfriend and of course she changed her mind, her cousin was not coming and her boyfriend convinced her to sell the house.

I laughed at some of her failed attempts to make jokes while putting on my heels.

Telling her goodbye and promising to call her immediately I was done with the interview.

I tossed my phone in my small bag as I ran out of my motel room. I headed to the park as fast as my legs could carry me, luckily, I got a bus almost as immediately as I got there.

The road is a bit clear as we set off to Bennett's enterprise.

It took the bus driver minutes to get there, which I was already ten minutes late.

My destination is the headquarters of Bennett's global enterprise, which is boldly written on the top of twenty- five-story building.

"This is beautiful and utterly exquisite." I monotonously said.

As I viewed the building, with the curved and glassy framework, I could say nothing less than that the architect has a nice insight and taste.

I walked through the magnetic glass- steel door and I headed straight to the reception.

I met a lean, groomed brunette lady with long straight hair.

"Good day, am miss Sophia what can I do for you?" she asked smiling, showing off her perfectly arranged white teeth.

"Am miss Lucy, am here—"

"For the interview—", we both chorused.

You are late she said, "Mr Nathaniel is waiting for you. You should take the last elevator on the left, press the twenty-sixth floor." She concluded, smiling at me.

I smiled back thanking her as I ran quickly for the elevator.

Hoping that I am not too late.

Took about a minute to get to the highest floor, the door slides open revealing another huge lobby—again I'm met with another reception.

A blonde, curvy young girl greeted me.

"Hi am miss Lucy, I am meant to be on an interview with Mr Nate ten minutes ago", I said.

She brought out a book for me to sign on. After I was done, she pointed down the right directing me to the big glassy office.

Pacing off quickly, I pushed open the door and stumbled through, "Shit,"- I cursed underneath my breath, my hands and knees on the doorway. almost falling but a gentle hands around my waist holding me from falling.

Glancing up, I was shocked as my eyes meet with the same stranger I met in the restaurant yesterday.

"Ha..ha...Hi," I stuttered. "Are you Mr Bennett?" I asked embarrassed.

Okay, I knew he was rich but I would never have guessed he was this rich and to think a man like him could do all those things  I was told he did; well, that is quite unbelievable.

He looked like the Playboy, portrayed the character well in his fitted dark brown retro suit which fitted his athletic gorgeous body underneath; he's rich;  classic rudeness that comes with a man that has it all; his confidence; his dormant masculinity;

With his perfectly chiselled and defined face, his sexy wine coloured lips, his beautiful grey eyes; they were enough to drive any woman crazy.

But he didn't look a bit like the evil, cruel man, described to me.

His velvety, warm voice brought me back to reality.

"Yes, was I supposed to look different?" He teased, a playful smile curls on his lips.

"No," I said shaking my head, I frowned feeling a bit dizzy.

"Are you alright?" He asked, his brows drawn in concern.

"Yes, thank you," I replied, as he urges me to sit.

At least he did not talk about yesterday, maybe he didn't remember it was me, please let it be the case. I prayed.

" Miss Luciana? " he asked looking at my file as he accesses me.

"Yes," I said lowering my head so I won't have to look into his eyes.

A faint hint of a smile played in his face probably because he remembers my face and is messing with me and I might not get the job, I contemplated as my paranoia kicked in.

"Do you think of yourself as a violent person?" He asked, but before I could think up a reply he added.

"Do you always get angry and agitated whenever you don't get your way? especially at very important people of the society? Do you have a problem with rich people?" He asked as his intense grey eyes regard me shrewdly.

"Well, no I don't get angry at people because they are rich or important." I scowled, knowing for sure that he is messing with me.

"Do you consider your behaviour yesterday as normal," he asked and I could detect a ghost smile on his lips.

Was he really going to go down that road? Like seriously he was the wrong one there. But I need this job so I answered politely. "No sir," and he smiled, the bastard grinned.

" Do you feel as though you are entitled to be treated the same way as the important people of the society?"

He asked again, this time I could see myself losing it. I've never met anyone as rude and arrogant as him.

Angry and annoyed, I replied not ready to play his games.

"Well to be truthful you deserved it, you knew I was there before you, just because you are rich and handsome you think you could control and get anything.

You rich people always feeling like you are entitled because you employ people like me."

I regretted my statement as I was done cause I was proving his point and even though he had the slightest chance of employing me I guess now it is never happening at all.

"You can leave my office now, miss Lucy. My team would get back to you if you got the job."

He dismissed.

I nodded wryly knowing the truth.

He was just being curt because it's a hundred percent chance that his team would never get back at me.

* . *. *.

Next day.

Feeling sad, I pack up my load and left Anthony message unread when he asked me how the interview went.

I plan on telling him in person when I get back.

I was just another one of his failed projects, he could always find another I told myself.

But the hospital bills and the mortgage was something I have to find another way to pay for or I will lose everything and this time I have to tell brother, I can't hide this one from him.

Dragging my box from my room door when I got a message from the Bennett enterprise saying;

"Miss Lucy you have been appointed to a job as a personal assistant to Nathaniel Bennett.

You are expected to be here in fifteen minutes. You should get Mr Bennett's coffee on your way. He likes his coffee hot and creamy."

I stood there shocked, overwhelmed and surprised.

He gave me the job. I smiled but my mind wouldn't stop whirling.

I was happy to get the job no doubt but I wondered why he gave me the job despite everything.

I wondered if it was some sick revenge plot for my actions or like me, there was another agenda he had in mind, after all, he is considered a dangerous man.
