Sean

What is she doing?

What the hell is going on?

She's reading me.

Reading me like all my pages are sprawled out for her to see. Like I've just freely laid myself flat on the ground, only for her to dig up all the guilt I've tried so hard to bury. With just one stare, it's like she's already found everything that took me years to hideaway.

It's like she can see right through me.

It's like she knows.

Fuck, stop already.

I can't look away. I won't show any sign of weakness.

"Thank you," she nods, turning around and continuing to walk in the same direction she was walking in before we so unawarely bumped into each other.

That's it?

She'd leave after... that?

"You're welcome," I mumble to myself, before turning to walk in the direction I was headed for.

8105.

My locker. Something I'm sure, I wouldn't be using.

Julianna should be able to put it to good use. If I gave her the combination, there's no doubt that my locker would be a pantry filled to the rim with snacks.

Come to think of it, that wouldn't be so bad.

Minus the possible ant infestation.

"Sean!"

I turn to the familiar voice, calling my name.

"What do you want, Jules?"

I turn around, noticing a girl walking right next to her. She was a few— barely even noticeable— inches taller than Julianna.

"New friend? Are you planning on cutting this one off too?" The girl turned to give Julianna a shocked look and I smile in amusement.

"He's kidding," she smiles, giving my shoulder a light push. "Shut up jack ass, let's go home. Kiara is coming with us," she states, emphasizing the girl's name.

"Alright."

Before turning in the direction of the school parking lot, I give Kiara a bit of an acknowledgement and head off with the two, trailing behind me.

If Julianna had already made a new friend in this city, I'm relieved. Kiara already seemed better than any friend Julianna had back in Moonsdale.

"Yo, man wait up!"

Another familiar voice.

Before I could turn around, Kordell pops up right next to me, resting his arm on my left shoulder.

"What took you so long?" I questioned annoyedly.

"Searching for my locker," he shrugs. "Who was that?" he asks curiously, turning to greet Julianna with their special handshake. "And who are you?" he asks seductively when his eyes land on Kiara.

"Kordell!" Julianna hollers. "Sean?!" she complains, in an, "I'm telling on you," kinda way. Kiara's face heats up.

"Fuck off, Kordell," I aid. Twins. "Who was who?" I ask, focusing my attention back to his first question.

"The girl you so helplessly watch, gather her shit off the ground," he mocked.

Oh, that.

I mean.

Her.

"No one."

When we got home, Juliana and Kiara headed straight for the theatre room. Kordell and I made our way to the kitchen to get some snacks, before heading straight to the game room.

On nights like this, we'd usually be out and about, but tonight was different. School caught me off guard and now I'm all fucking annoyed.

To be honest, I'd rather be home with the guys than to socialize with a bunch of thirsty ass girls in a crowd full of sweaty drunk dudes.

"I'm going to call Seth and Jason down. Never told them we were here yet."

With a new school, the moving process, and everything happening all at once, I never got a chance to tell my childhood best friends that I've officially moved into Luna City.

Seth Lewis.

He's easy-going and he never takes anything seriously. He laughs at pretty much anything and loves getting under my skin. He finds joy in annoying the hell out of me and the others, but I guess my being sensitive, or what the guys like to call it, butthurt, apparently makes me an easy target.

Jason Miller.

He, on the other hand, has always been the one to draw the line when Seth became too much of a hand full. He's the balance Seth and I need. I've also heard a bunch of girls drooling over his charming trait, whatever the hell that means.

Yup, in this unfamiliar city, I practically grew up with those douche bags.

My grandmother lives here, so as a child, we'd come down here and play together. Mom and dad had paid off the mortgage to this house, ensuring we'd have somewhere to stay each time we came back and visited.

Because Kordell and I are pretty close, despite he and his group being one year younger than us, we'd still hang around as one big group and do all sorts of stupid shit together.

And that's all the familiar I need in this city.

"Call Carter and River down," I suggest.

"Already done, bro," Kordell says, simultaneously trying to lose the on-screen cops.

Now, Carter Harris.

Ironically, he has always been the responsible one. He likes to have fun but he knows his limits and instinctively makes sure we know ours too. He knows right away when something is off, and doesn't wait one second to point it out, whether it's privately and individually or as a group.

River Marino.

The kid's something else. He's the life of the party, poking fun at us all morning and night. Our worst enemy and best friend all in one package. He's all about the thrill and excitement. When there's news, drama, or gossip, he just has to know everything, even if it doesn't involve him in any way, whatsoever.

All and all, I consider them family, way more than I'll ever consider anyone back in Moonsdale. Just another plus of moving to Luna City.

"Drive faster, Kordell, you call that good play?" I turn my head to the sound of River's voice. Seth, Jason, and Carter behind him.

"Hey guys," Kordell greets, relieved of the familiarity.

He pauses the game and I stand, happily greeting them all.

"Guess who's all moved into Luna City? For good."

"Dude, no way!" River jumps in amusement.

"It's about time," Jason smiles.

"That's awesome you guys. Why the sudden decision?" Seth asks and Jason kicks his shin.

They know.

At least, they know what I want them to.

"After the funeral we just, uh, we needed a fresh start."

I turn away from the guys not wanting to show how much this affected me. The memories came crawling back and I couldn't have that. We moved for a reason. To get away from our past. I'm not taking the past with me.

It. Wasn't. My. Fault.

But it was.

The passing of one parent is something, we as siblings should have gone through together.

But, I did it on my own.

As much as they wanted to help, I had so much more healing to do than they did. And as selfish as it sounds, it's true. Julianna and Kordell respected that. They might know of mom's death but they weren't in the position that I was in that night. They said they knew how I felt, but hell, they didn't.

No one did.

Fuck, I'm letting this get to me.

I should've just stayed back home. Kordell and Julianna are in the process of moving on. I can't slow that down by showing them that I'm still stuck in the exact moment it happened. I'm not ready to forget. I'm not ready to heal. I won't move on.

"Sean you're fine. I swear if you're thinking of what I think you're thinking of," Kordell warns.

"We get it, man. We miss her too," Jason says sincerely.

With that, I turn and leave in silence.

"Come on guys, we know he'll be back. He's good. We also know he's just going to see his dad. Let's play some GTA," I faintly hear Carter say.

They know me too well.

Before proceeding into the room, I look down at the plastic bag in my hand. I had ordered a good portion of food for dad to eat, and knowing that he did not eat and would not eat, I was careful with my choices.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

There he was. Sitting on the edge of his bed, looking through her photo album just like he was in the morning before we left him. Sneaking a quick peek I saw her. God, she was the most beautiful woman I knew.

Unforgettable smile, dark brown, wavy hair that fell just past her shoulders, and deep brown eyes that were magical beneath the sun.

Much resemblance to Julianna, whereas Kordell and I took after my dad. Dirty blonde hair and blueish-green eyes. Although, my hair was a bit darker, a mix of both mom and dad.

It's been a long while since I saw her. I never bothered looking at anything to remind me of my selfish mistake. Let alone her very face. God, she was beautiful.

Dad treated her well.

The coffee that Julianna made for him this morning was sitting still on top of his drawer, untouched, exactly where he told her she could leave it. By the looks of it, he's been sitting there all day.

"Hey, dad."

"Hey sport, come on in."

"You should eat, I brought you some food."

Cautiously, I made my way over to him and set down his food just beyond reach.

"It's her favourite," he said knowingly.

It was her favourite. I figured if he didn't want to eat what he normally did, he'd eat something for mom.

"Eat for her, dad."

Knowing there was not much I could say, I left, closing the door behind me with the hope that he'd eat, even just the tiniest nibble.
