2 Chapter One: From Zero

William POV

Everything around me burned the buildings, the people, and the sky everywhere I could hear people begging for their lives or praying to Kami.

I took a couple of shaky steps forward ignoring the people around me my goal was to survive this hell for...who again? I thought to myself feeling my memories slip away from me. I sucked in what little air I could and kept going forward until I tripped halfway through.

Was this it am I going to die here like the rest of these people I thought with blurry eyes until my eyes landed on a red headed boy around my age how? How could he possibly be thinking of walking through that hell up ahead? I questioned.

I called out to the other boy "Hey you know that's hell you're walking into right!" The boy stops looking at me for a second until he responded "I know," was all he said I gaped at him watching him walk once more.

I grit my teeth if he can walk through hell then surely, I could as well with a great amount of strain I pushed myself up and followed after the other boy I ignored the burning flames crawling upon my back and soon enough I caught up to the boy who was surprised.

"We can survive...together," I said to the other boy who nodded wrapping an arm around my shoulder while I wrapped arm around his and together, we walked forward ignoring the people that continued to beg for our help with heavy hearts, but the heat soon proved to be too much even for our combined will to survive.

We collapsed in synch I looked at the burning sky was this it would we finally die here hehehe just when we were so close at least I won't be alone I thought watching as the rubble around us began to bury us in.

I could see the crack of light in the sky and weakly punched through the crack letting my hand escape, but my energy was slowly slipping away I guess this was the end of the line I thought with drowsy eye's that was until I felt someone pushing away the rubble freeing me and the other boy.

My hand was grasped along with my companion "Thank god you're both alive thank you," came the voice of the man that had saved us both.

He had black messed up hair and white skin that was covered with a bit of ash but the two most notable features that he possessed were his shining black eyes that were filled with happiness despite the tears that crawled out of them.

Finally, that wide bright smile that seemed to make my heartbeat fast for a moment it was as if he was the one that was saved and not us. I briefly wondered if I could ever be happy like this man was, I thought rather numbly feeling the pull of sleep the man's eyes widen.

"They're both in terrible conditions but I'll be damned if I can't save them I'll insert Avalon into the other boy and I'll give the rest of my crest to jump start the other's slow beating heart," the man muttered under his breath and the next thing I saw was a bright golden flash along with a vague image of someone dressed in armor with blond hair the rest of their features I could not see due to them not facing me and then blissful darkness.

-timeskip the hospital-

When I awoke, the first thing I saw was white "Am I in heaven?" I asked out loud. "I am afraid not, son but a second later and you would have joined the lord much like the others," came the gruff voice of a man who had come in the moment I asked the question.

"What happened?" I questioned. "Oh, you don't remember? It seems like you have the same case of amnesia as that red-haired boy," the doctor commented making me flinch back remembering the boy.

"Where is he...that boy?" I asked making the doctor pause while looking at me with eyes filled with sympathy. "Ah yes he should be in the next room over but his condition is in a much more critical state right now. He's simply just knocked out right now," he explained.

I unconsciously sighed with relief perhaps it was because he was safe or maybe it was because he was the only one that had survived as I had. Closing my eyes, I tried to think back before the fire but all I got was blank.

"Why can't I remember anything, doc?" I asked with a slight bit of fear "Like I said before you have amnesia meaning you've simply lost your memories due to the trauma you've experienced. Tell me what exactly do you remember?" said the doctor.

"I-I um, remember my name William and everything else in general but I can't seem to remember who I was or who my family was. It's like someone just put my head on reset," I said trying my best to explain what I was feeling.

The doctor sighed "Well it's good you at least managed to remember some things,William I am sorry about the loss of everything else though. I wish I could help but maybe in time your memories might come back to you," he replied.

I looked down lost in my thoughts until the doctor called for me once more "William there's one more thing you should know the man who saved you... he wants to talk to you," the doctor then looked at the door calling out "Mr. Emiya you can come in now," the door to the room slowly opened and in came that same man who had saved both me and my red-haired companion.

The doctor then went to the man whispering somethings into his ear after that the doctor left closing the door on his way out the room was awkwardly silent until the man spoke "Hello my name is Kiritsugu Emiya it's nice to meet you William," I nod my head.

"Y-yeah it's nice to meet my savior face to face," I greeted back with gratitude making the man's face shift from that of gloomy one to a smile "Listen I am going to give you two choices William it's up to you to decide you can either go into the foster system or...I can adopt you?" He offered with a small amount of hesitance near the end.

My eyes widen at the last choice most certainly I would accept if only to learn how I could be like him when he had saved me but then I thought of the red-haired boy "What about the boy that was with me?" I asked "He's agreed to be adopted by me," Kiritsugu replied.

I smiled and with a small bit of enthusiasm I replied, "Then that settles it I would like to be adopted by you then," Kiritsugu nodded his near dull black eyes seemed to have increased with light "T-that's good I am really glad but before that there's something you should know...I am a magus," he replied.
