2 - Here Again

Ellery's POV

As I gasped, Madison looked at me with confusion on her face.

"What's wrong?" She asked. "You look a little pale.

Still being in shock, I finally managed to say "No-nothing, it's nothing."

It was him.

I turned to Madison, "Who is the guy with brown hair and black suit at the front?" I asked her.

"Him? The handsome guy in the suit?" Madison said with stars in her eyes.

"Yeah, him." Wow, this guy was probably a chick magnet.

"That's the CEO. His name is Mercuer. He's gorgeous, isn't he? Honestly. How do you not know what your boss looks like?" Madison shook her head "You're so lucky and you don't even know it."

"That's him?" Kill me now.

"Please take your seats. The meeting is about to begin!" Ms. Anderson loudly announced.

Everyone took their seats and I ended up sitting next to Ms. Anderson, giving me a little distance between him, but not much.

It's the first meeting I've attended in a while and I forgot how mundane it really gets. At a certain point, I didn't even know what I was hitting down from the conversations. When you're bored, you start looking around and I couldn't help but look at him from time to time. There was just something so magnetizing about him. Maybe it was just my curiosity.

The meeting was drawing near the end when his eyes landed on me and met my gaze. I hadn't realized I had been staring. A look of surprise crossed his face then it was replaced by a look of amusement. He smirked at me and continued on with his closing statement, "If that's all, then we are done for today. You may leave." He waved a hand dismissively and everyone got up, gathered their stuff and left.

Ms. Anderson, Madison, and I stayed behind as the crowd trickled out muttering some plans about dinner and golf.

"Charles, I would like for you to meet your new secretary, Miss Aires." Ms. Anderson said gesturing towards me "She is a replacement for Emily. I interviewed her last week while you were away in California."

Turning towards me, "Ellery, this is Charles Mercuer, the CEO of this company, as you probably know. He's the person you are going to be directly working under."

Embarrassed, I drew my hand out for him to shake. "Nice to meet you, Sir. I look forward to working with you." Feeling myself get red in the face.

Christian smiled at Ms. Anderson. "Thank you, Taylor. I appreciate it." They must be close since they're on a first-name basis.

"It's no big deal, Christian. I'll talk to you later." Ms. Anderson said, turning around, and headed for the door with Madison walking quickly behind her to match her pace.

Then it was just the two of us, alone. He looked smug in his fancy suit and standing there looking like he owned everything. Which he probably does. How could this even happen? It might've been a one in a million chance that I would ever see him again in my life—I'm not good at statistics so don't quote me on that. Yet, he's standing right there, right in front of me. Of all the places in this city, he had to be here, in this company.

"Do tell me, do you call everyone a "bastard" when you meet them?" He said smirking "What are the chances that we meet again?"

I stood there, shuffling back and forth. He must've realized at some point that I was embarrassed and started laughing at me.

His face grew serious again, "I'll make sure to make your life in this company is hell."
