48 Wizards

The snow-blown wind blows from the north to the kingdom of Seles where a contingent of elves is marching towards Olmaria in an attempt to deflect the spies of the invaders. At the same time, just a few hundred meters from the castle, the men of the Force of Fate and the royal army of Olmaria are standing still, dressed as wizards.

In front of the commander of this armed force there is a village completely razed to the ground by the previous battles. No home has survived violence.

Among the debris, small barricades hide small teams of enemies watching the scene. Simon observing talks to his right-hand man Desmond and the operating captain Drew "No messenger was sent to the castle to warn their commanders of our arrival and all the soldiers were quietly stopped in their place. As we thought, those bastards have spies."

Simon controls the forces at his disposal, about six hundred men and a small group of elves with magical skills.

--------------

On the other hand, another person is also checking the entity of the army positioned in front of the castle. The number lower than that of the defenders. The enemy commander thinks "These elves are just stupid. They should learn from Olmaria and leave us alone. It was not enough to lose twice in a row. There were only a few to try again some ineffective spells. This time I will not let them escape, I want you to exterminate them all. Use the trick we have prepared."

A soldier, at least two and a half meters tall, goes off into the corridors of the castle shouting "We'll take care of those little girls!" The last words are confused in the sound of picks and stone that echoes in the halls.

--------------

Drew shouts the first order "Wizards get ready to fire!"

Nine elves approach euphoric to the first rows of the army. Until a few days before they could barely light the fireplace at home thanks to their lack of ability to master the 'elemental magic' skill, but now, after having enrolled under the command of that strange young human, they possess a strength comparable to an elder of the council.

The wizards raise their hand intoning an ancient song. Small flames are collected in the hands growing in size every second. Then at a shout from Captain Drew the fireballs are thrown towards the castle.

No sphere of fire can overcome a hundred meters crashing against the barricades.

The defenders, at first quiet, are frightened after noticing that the used flames do not go off once broken against the rubble. This time the fireballs are different. The spell used is more powerful and treacherous. The fire remains lit even in the absence of fuel and manages to damage or to inflate some barricades.

Simon advances a few steps and thanks to his new ability 'major elemental magic' prepares the only spell he has managed to learn. He raises his hand and repeating the song of the elves generates a small ball of blue fire in the palm. Load the shot and fling it towards the castle. This time the spell, pushed by the strength of the commander, manages to crash against the stone walls of the fortress. The incredulous defenders witness the strength of the blue flame that hits the rock and destroys a small portion of the wall.

The exalted young commander screams "If I knew that magic was so powerful I would have come here long before!"

Worried Desmond replies "I don't like it. They let us attack with magic. I feel a snare of a trap."

Simon amused comments "Obviously they have prepared something. They prepared themselves to fight the army of Olmaria. They will have some way to trouble an army of infantrymen. Unfortunately I have not yet understood what they have prepared. However, as long as they let us do it, continue with the launching of fireballs."

The group of elves observes without words the baron Forb to create a spell of such power. None of them thought the young man was a wizard. Everyone was convinced that it was only a paranoid commander who, needing to have everything under control, asked for every little detail of his subordinates' skills in order to use them to the fullest.

After the third magic attack the wizards suddenly find themselves without powers. But Simon does not see any enemy close enough to nullify his men's skills.

Suddenly from the sides appear hundreds of enemies intent on charging the side of the army.

Some enemies, taller than a man, vigorously beating their feet on the ground generate small shocks capable of destabilizing the balance of the besiegers.

Simon angry for not understanding the enemy's plan before curses himself.

Drew thanks to twenty years experience on the battlefields brings order, reinforcing the side lines. Fortunately, the enemy has not yet understood that he is in front of infantry and not wizards.

Simon calls the dwarf team and orders to launch the "spider webs". Many soldiers during the charge are imprisoned in the sticky net. Finally, Igor and two helpers operate the 'cascade of lightning'. A small portion of the sides of the army is then protected by this impenetrable shield of murderous lightning.

The captains of the half-blood tribe reassemble the soldiers, moving away momentarily from the melee to try to understand how the besiegers managed to use the magic.

Captain Drew takes advantage of this time to change the troop arrangement.

The situation is not exactly as hoped, but Simon is convinced that more than half of the enemy force, about seven hundred men are rushed towards them leaving their safe positions. The sides, however, suffered some damage due to the surprise attack.

One of the hunters positioned in the rear shows that he has seen trenches camouflaged along the sides. The enemy must have used this system, probably designed to encircle an army of infantry intent on besieging the fortress.

The tension becomes palpable. Now that the invaders have recovered from the surprise and the 'cacade of lightning' has stopped working, the two armies are observing each other a few meters away ready to fight.

The enemy I am sure of not having to deal with wizards is changing strategy, they are aiming for a more precise and organized approach.

The minutes pass without either of them being able to make a move until a half-blood, much taller than the others, at least three meters, decides to advance followed by his other companions.

The arrows are uselessly breaking on the hard skin of these soldiers. Two spears are taken and destroyed with the sole force of one hand.

Arrived in front of the army of Olmaria, the group throws itself in trying to crush the little humans.

The other soldiers heartened by the advance of their companions follow them ready to intervene but they are themselves squeezed between the first and third row when the shields of the Force of Fate throw back the giant half-bloods.

The latter, with their faces disfigured by amazement, are pushed back helplessly by little men with inhuman strength.

Simon takes the opportunity and thanks to the derivative skill 'Sorcerer', born from the fusion of the three 'major elemental magic', 'major healing magic' and 'major magic of the higher nature', he hits the army in front of him with a another fireball completely ignoring the antimagic effect of the opponents.

A small ball of bluish fire flies straight through enemy soldiers unable to escape by burning them.

--------------

From one of the fortress loopholes the commander of the invaders shouts "Shit! Get them back inside! One of those bastards has not lost the powers! "

Then, walking furiously back and forth, he rushes towards the basements.

--------------

Olmaria's army, now conscious of superiority in physical strength, advances towards the enemy. In some areas of the front, small groups of soldiers are pushed back by shock waves generated by some enemies. Fortunately, thanks to the dwarf armor and the support of the companions in the rear, the damage does not seem to be debilitating.

Satisfied Simon would like to jump into the fray but is stopped by his bodyguard, Desmond, then he just throws a few balls of fire here and there.

After several minutes the defending army is systematically reduced to impotence. Some try to escape looking for shelter behind the barricades but thanks to the chaos of the battle even the elves have regained the ability to do magic.

Creepers and fireballs immobilize and shoot down fleeing soldiers as the infantry makes its way blow by blow.

The battle lasting almost two hours runs out quickly when Drew including the small number of survivors among the enemies launches the order to spread out and hit.

Satisfied Simon walks on the battlefield while the remaining enemy troops hide inside the castle. While Simon's elves observe their commander with a genuine sense of respect, he uses a runic box to call the elven army.

"We have killed more than half of their men, now it would be convenient for us to join you here to proceed with the final assault."

Then, after shouting a roar toward his men, he commands "Prepare a camp, fences and guards. I want no one to leave that castle. Close the trenches and scan the area to find other secret passages.
