Third Third Night

With her wounds recovered, Saber entered the fray once more.

This time however, she could focus on the attack instead of being forced on the defense like before. The reason for that was because Archer interrupted Berserker every time he tried to attack Saber.

Sometimes he would parry his blows with his twin swords, sometimes swords would shoot towards Berserker and instantly detonate on impact. And that resulted in Berserker being slowly overwhelmed.

He was losing ground, and Illya was aware of that. She gnashed her teeth in fury upon seeing this. The target of her revenge was standing there right before her, but she couldn't do anything.

He was useless, that Shirou Emiya. But his servant wasn't. That made her even more furious. Every day she dreamed of torturing him until the end of his miserable life. That was the fuel that kept her going.

'But all of that was ruined!' She bit her nail in frustration. There was no other choice but to fall back here and find an opportunity at a later time.

"Berserker! We're leaving!" Illya said as she took a final look at the Shirou before Berserker pushed both Archer and Saber and arrived next to her.

The duo disappeared soon after.

"That servant was really no joke." Rin uttered after she made sure that Berserker and his master left the area. She now understood her servant better. That Berserker was not something a single servant could handle.

"Told you." Evander appeared right next to her. Having Saber to handle Berserker was the best course of action. Thought there was something even better but he wouldn't use that unless it was a last resort.

Ironically, the skill he saw when he looked at Berserker's weapon, Nine Lives, was the best way to deal with him.

He wouldn't say that to Rin though. She would definitely demand him to use it to take care of Berserker quickly. And killing such a great hero that way would be such a shame. Where would be the fun in that?

"Hmph. Whatever." Rin crossed her arms and turned her head away. Her servant might have chosen the best way to deal with an enemy servant, but in his words; Just because he is correct, doesn't mean he is right. She could still give him a little bit of attitude.

"Haha" Evander laughed light heartedly upon seeing the antics of Rin. He knew what she was doing, how could he not? He dealt with women more troublesome than Rin when he was alive. Her behavior was instead refreshing to him, he could barely hold himself back from bullying her more.

Rin of course couldn't read what was going on Evander's mind, so she turned to Shirou and Saber who was watching their interaction awkwardly.

"Emiya." Rin said as she focused on Shirou.

"Huh, uh yes?" Shirou replied hastily.

"Let's team up."

"Team up?"

"Yeah. As you saw previously, that Berserker was very strong. Instead of facing him alone, we better team up and deal with the other servants before deciding the winner amongst ourselves. What do you think?"

"Master, I believe this is a good proposition." Before Shirou replied, Saber chimed in to give her opinion.

There were a few reasons why she thought this as a good deal. First, she was weak because she was getting little to no mana from Shirou, that's why she didn't think she could hold her ground in a battle with other servants. Second, she believed in the character of Archer. Though Rin not so much. Her instinct believed that it was okay to trust that servant. And lastly, his coo- ahem there were no more reasons.

Not like she would trust people just because they could cook delicious food. No way. She was the King of Knights. She would judge everyone equally.

"It's okay Saber, I was thinking the same thing. Tohsaka, I don't want to win this war, nor do I have any wish. I'm only participating to prevent innocents from getting hurt." Shirou replied with conviction.

"Well, if that's what you want." Rin said as she turned around and nodded to Archer.

Evander also nodded and turned to look at Saber who was looking at him with reluctance once again. She couldn't get her promised food today. And Evander was aware of that. But there was nothing he could do right now. "Tomorrow I promise." He said and the single strand of hair on Saber's head wiggled in anticipation but her face betrayed no emotion as she only gave him a nod.

Then Evander lifted Rin in a princess carry and disappeared from their sight.

While Evander was running on rooftops under the moonlight, Rin was in deep thought. "That Berserker was ridiculously strong. As expected of the physically strongest class. But… why does Berserker go berserk?" She uttered.

Evander decided not to answer such a deep question.

In no time, they arrived at Tohsaka manor.

Once inside, Rin went to sit on a couch to rest her tired body, and Evander went to kitchen to prepare something to eat.

Rin watched as Evander's figure literally dance in the kitchen. His face was fully focused just like in his battle against Berserker. It felt as if the kitchen was just another battlefield for him.

"Rin?"

She didn't know for how long she watched him but when she came back to her senses, Evander was placing the plates on the table and was waiting for her.

It's been only three days since she had known him, but this eating together activity became a part of her daily life.

It would be a lie if she said that she wasn't looking forward to it everyday. The cold and lonely manor became warm ever since he appeared.

But her mood dropped a bit once she realized that this was a fleeting memory. She didn't show it outwardly though, because she was sure that her servant would make fun of her once again.

That's why, she focused all her attention on the appetizing food before her eyes. But of course there was something else to be discussed too.

She grabbed her fork and dug in the food. "Her Archer." She said.

"Hmm?" Evander looked at her.

"Who are you?" She asked. His name was Evander, but she knew that there were no heroes with that name in history.

But he was way too strong to be a no name servant. She had this question in her mind ever since she saw his battle against the Lancer but she couldn't find the time to ask because of the situation at hand.

Now seemed to be an appropriate time.

"I told you. My name is Evander or better known as Shezzar if you are asking."

"I know your name!" She said with a little bit of anger seeping into her voice. "But there are no heroes with those names as far as I know. And you are too strong for a no name heroic spirit."

"Ah you are asking for that, I see." Evander nodded his head, and continued. "Indeed, I don't exist in 'your' history."

"'Your' history?" Rin tilted her head.

"Yes. Think of it like this," he said as he put up one finger. "This is the history of your world, with your own legends." Then he put up another finger right next to the other one. "And this is my world. You can think of it as a parallel world or an alternate timeline where a different history and legends exist."

"Normally, the war is between the heroes of your own world, summoned from the Throne of Heroes. But there exists a similar place in my world called the Hall of Heroes." Evander said and then intertwined his fingers. "But because of reasons unknown to me, the Throne and the Hall combined. That lead to me being summoned from the Hall. That's why you've never heard of me in your world." Evander said.

"I see. So, that's why… but why did they combine?" Rin asked aloud as she put a hand to her chin.

"As I said, I don't know." Evander shrugged.

"Hmm… it's not a question we can answer at the moment anyways. Now, I want to know more about your abilities."
