14 1 Day is all it Takes

"Come on fight me!" I yelled as Riku tried to go back in the house. "NO! Haven't you bruised me enough?" He asked trying to escape me. "Come on, just fight me?" I Asked again. "Your ridiculous." He said, rolling his eyes and I squared up. "Relax, it wont take that long, I'll beat you in 3 seconds." I said as a devilish smirk grew across my face. "3?" He asked taking off his jacked, stepping back into the middle of the garden. "You slipping, I was betting on 2." He said getting closer.

"No holding back." I said, getting excited. We have not spared such a long time. "WHy would I?" He asked before swinging. He had a strong right hook, if you didn't expect it. I ducked and kicked his legs from underneath him. He fell on his back and groaned in pain. "Sloppy." I said standing up straight, putting both hands on my hips in a taunting manner. "Yeah I saw that coming." He said rubbing his head. "Come on, lets go again." I said, reaching out my hand to help him up.

"Alright." He said reluctantly, grabbing my hand. Before I could pull him up he had yanked my arm causing me to fall flat on top of him. "Or we could just fool around." He said caressing my cheek with his thumb. "NO! The garden is a sacred place, you keep your beastliness in your own room." I said pushing myself off of him. He rested his head back on the ground in defeat.

"Come on we've got a day off lets go be productive." I said getting up and walking back to the door. He quickly got up and grabbed me by the waist before I could go back into the house. "Or we could go have a day that's actually fun?" He said pulling me back outside. "Like what?" I asked sceptical of what he was implying.

Before I could say no we were out running through the old trails we made in the woods, having a water balloon fight. It was so ridiculous, us running through the forest throwing balloons at each other. It went on for about an hour before we were both soaking wet.

"God,when are we gonna be too old for this?" I said catching my breath. "Never!" He said throwing another balloon at me. I ducked behind a tree but still got a little wet. "You know i've been going easy on you." I said grabbing another balloon. We continued until we were out of balloons and too tired to stand. We climbed to the top of the hill and sat to watch the sun set.

"God, my legs are so sore from all that running." Riku said leaning back into the hill. "I told you we were too old for this." I said in an I told you so kind of way. "Life's too short to not do the things that make us happy." He said gazing out at the sunset, admiring how the orange and pink hues danced across the sky. "That was offly poetic." I said trying to lighten the mood. He laughed a bit and looked back over to me.

"Maybe so, but it's true. Were gonna die anyways, might as well make the most of it." "You're not afraid of dying?" I asked genuinely curious about his logic behind that. "Not at all, when its time its time. You know?" I silently agreed though I couldn't quite wrap my head around it at the time.

"Aren't you the least bit worried?" "Nope." He said completely unbothered. "How?" I asked, baffled by his calmness. "Because, it's you and me. Always?" He asked looking over, grinning like an idiot. "And forever." "Well alright then." He said looking back at the sky. I hated the way he could bring light to situations like that. No matter how hard things get he always seems to see the bright side. I really don't think he'll ever change, he's always been like this and probably always will be.

We watched the sunset until the sky went from pink, to purple, to a deep cobalt blue. We walked back to the house and went to bed. As hard as we work and all the things we deal with, it's nice to know that we haven't forgotten how to have fun. Though I do wish we could spend everyday like this one, I like how challenging it is working the way we do. Our lives are both nicely balanced and a complete mess, it just depends on how we decide to look at it that day.

We both knew we have to go back to the long hours and relentless emailing by the next morning but we had both silently agreed that we would revel in what was left of our day off.
