The early morning fall fog was thick. It would burn off as the sun became stronger. But for the time being it was creating a bit of a problem. Dan drove slowly up and down the rows of parked horse trailers at the county fairgrounds. Most had horses tied to them, quietly munching hay from hay bags. Folks were busy brushing out tails and getting tack ready.

Dan had been to the fairgrounds on numerous occasions—sometimes to attend events such as the county fair or concerts. Occasionally he came in response to an emergency involving a horse at a show. He was fairly familiar with the layout. Scott had told him approximately where they usually parked, but when Dan had arrived at the row Scott had mentioned, he couldn’t see the Wagner’s trailer anywhere. He began to worry something had happened on the way in the dense fog. Then he assured himself if there had been a problem Scott would have called.
