111 Chapter 111: Guessing Professions

After Tanaka Yukiko led Kogoro Mouri away, she introduced him to a middle-aged man.

They engaged in conversation, and the man handed Mouri a letter-like paper. After reading it, Mouri's expression turned serious.

They continued talking, appearing completely engrossed in a serious discussion.

Seeing this, Ran's anger subsided slightly. She decided to let her father handle his business for now and deal with him when they returned home.

Although it wasn't some random woman trying to seduce her father, Mouri's behavior towards attractive women earlier had made Ran determined to teach him a lesson when they got home.

But for now, she decided to spare him some face.

Conan, on the other hand, changed the topic with a meaningful look. "Ran, let's continue the game we were playing earlier."

"A game?" Senichi looked at Conan with amusement. "What were you playing before?"

"Oh, it's a game where you guess people's professions," Ran said with a smile. "Earlier, Conan guessed that a person was the president of a dyeing company because of the colored stains on his nails."

"Ah, I see. That sounds interesting. I'll join in too," Senichi said with a smile that held a deeper meaning as he looked at Conan.

Conan felt embarrassed and scratched his head awkwardly. Before he could make a move, Ran spoke up.

"Conan-kun, look at those two people over there, on the left."

Following Ran's direction, they saw two men engaged in conversation.

The man on the left appeared younger, maybe in his thirties, wearing glasses and looking at a business card in his hand.

The man on the right, with his protruding belly and thinning hair, seemed older than the man on the left. However, his attitude appeared respectful as he bowed and smiled humbly while the other man examined his business card.

"Hmm... The person handing out the business card is probably an important executive of a certain company," Senichi commented with a smile. "But the fact that he's being so deferential suggests that the person on the other side holds significant power."

As Senichi spoke, the man with glasses on the left slid his hand into his pocket, seemingly ready to take out his wallet to reciprocate the exchange of business cards.

However, when he reached into his pocket, something resembling a cigarette case fell out and landed under the table, unnoticed.

He bent down to pick it up and casually put a few items that had fallen out back into his pocket before handing over the business card to the balding man.

"I guess that person is the son of some major conglomerate," Ran speculated with a smile.

"Probably not," Conan immediately shifted into his detective mode. "I guess he is the secretary of a famous politician."

*Cough, cough.* Senichi coughed twice, giving Conan a look that said, "Kid, you're on the mark," causing Conan's expression to freeze.

"Huh? Is that so?" Ran looked at the bespectacled man with confusion. "I can't tell..."

"Look at how neatly he wears his tie, his meticulous appearance, upright posture, and serious demeanor during the conversation," Senichi explained with a smile. "When it comes to businessmen, even with differing positions, interactions are usually not so serious. A skilled businessman knows how to be versatile and build rapport. His behavior suggests that he is likely a secretary to a politician, representing not only himself but also the politician behind him. Naturally, he would adopt a serious attitude when interacting with others."

"Is that so? Impressive! Did Conan-kun analyze all that in an instant too?" Ran looked at Conan in amazement after hearing Senichi's explanation.

"N-No, not really!" Conan waved his hands repeatedly, quickly employing his usual excuse. "Actually, I feel like I saw him in some news report before!"

"Ah, Conan, you cheated!" Ran said with a displeased tone as she lightly tapped Conan's forehead. "I thought you figured it out on your own, but it turns out you peeked at the answer."

"Hehehe, how could that be? I'm not like Senichi-niisan..." Conan scratched his head and laughed foolishly.

However, because of their discussion, Senichi noticed a man standing against the wall who seemed out of place.

He wore sunglasses and leaned against the corner, simply observing the people at the party without any apparent enjoyment. He formed a stark contrast to the laughing and chatting individuals nearby.

Conan also noticed the out-of-place man, but it was ultimately up to the man himself to decide how he participated in the party. Even if Conan sensed that something was off, there was nothing he could do at the moment.

"Come on, little boy, want to take a photo?" A service staff member wearing bunny ears approached with a camera in hand. "How about taking a picture as a memento?"

"Ran-neechan, let's take a photo together!" Perhaps realizing that his previous behavior was too much, Conan now adopted a cutesy tone and pulled on Ran's arm to take a photo.

However, because of the man's behavior, Conan found himself intrigued. So, taking advantage of the photo opportunity, Conan pulled Ran towards the vicinity of the wall where the man stood. When the service staff member took the photo, the man was captured in the frame as well.

"Quite clever," Senichi glanced at Conan and exchanged a meaningful look with him. Sometimes, silence spoke volumes.

If they both felt that the man was out of place, it made sense to make some preparations when the opportunity presented itself. If it turned out to be useless, well, there wouldn't be much loss. But if something did happen, it could prove to be incredibly useful.

After Senichi had prevented several cases in advance, Conan now placed even greater importance on these predictions. As a detective, he seemed to have discovered a new path—one where he could prevent crimes from happening, ending them before they even began, which was far more satisfying than finding the culprit after the fact!

Senichi had initially planned to take a photo with Ayako as well, but at that moment, the lights in the banquet hall dimmed, and the spotlight illuminated the figure of the emcee on the stage.

"So, next, let's welcome today's guest to say a few words to everyone present."

The emcee wore a warm smile on their face. "Please welcome Mr. Masao Takada, a member of the House of Representatives, to the stage as our representative speaker!"

*Dung!*

With the descending spotlight column from the stage, the position of the politician among the guests was immediately revealed to everyone.
