38 Chapter 38: Just One of Those Human Things, Part 3

He gathered the remains of the tread with his scoop, and draped them over his left side. He extended his right guidance wheels to their maximum height, and crept forward. His exposed sprockets grated against the tile, causing him to shake and bounce, but he managed to move forward a meter before he stopped. He inwardly smiled.

"Humans never give up," he said, and winced. Did his voice really sound like that?

The rest of his damage was minor, save to his helmet. Its once cracked glass had shattered completely. He extended his neck, and tapped his head on the floor until all of the shards fell from their frame. Let the enemy see his true face, he decided, and be afraid. He readjusted his foil cloak, and took in his surroundings.

"What is this place?" he asked. The thin air swallowed his words, as if they were tiny and insignificant.
