1 Chapter One

On a summer day, the light from the sun would beam lightly on my skin as there would be a nice breeze that would blow softly from the west making the nearby flowers dance in the tall grass. Letting the smell of roses and daisies fill the air. Later, that same summer day; the night sky would still be as peaceful as the day. The only difference in the sky would be the illuminating light from the fireflies dancing in the wind above the tall grass.

The thought alone brought a small smile to my face. Sadly, that's not the reality I live in. My body would shiver from the thought of bliss that maybe one day it may be a reality once more just like my mother's. Letting my imagination take over I feel a presence come near me. However, ignoring the feeling, I hear my name "LaVonne" I heard my name being half-heartedly sung in a sweet voice. I know that voice.... maybe if I pretend that I am sleeping it would go away I thought. LaVonne!" She only has gotten louder in my ear, but she knows I am a heavy sleeper. "For the love of pie girl if you don't get up now am stealing all your food you got stashed up in that cubby of yours" "NO!" I blurted it out without a second thought. Showing my ruse was finally over. "ugh...what do you weren't I was having a nice dream."

She would softly laugh. Her name was Bonnie; she was so beautiful; at times I was envious of her beauty. She was the total package with her thin rose-pink lips. Eyes as bright as emeralds in the daylight. Her hair was a yellow blonde with a body I can only dream of having. She was a living doll that was 5'8 ft. tall. She was always looking down on me. Mostly because am short but she knew she can do anything, and I admire her confidence in herself. I wish I had it. Snapping her fingers "Lavonna, your spacing out again!" "Sorry about that." I would reply not knowing how my face has gotten stuck again this time. "What's in that mind of yours? A penny for your thought?" She would ask. Laughing I would reply "you don't have that many pennies." We both laugh as the mood in the room gotten lighter.

Finally sitting upright in my chair, I would crack my knuckles letting my red hair fall out of my messy bun. As the chains on my pants would start to vibrate against the table. I would start to smile knowing that today would finally stop being a slow day. Bonnie let out a tiring sigh. Griping on to the chair as we both looked at each other bracing ourselves as the floor beneath us shook violently.

Knocking down lose pictures and knickknacks on the wall of my room as the blue safety light would begin rotating and flash. 1..2...3...4 the floor stopped shaking as a vibration shot through me going up. "You felt that right!" Bonnie exclaimed a little scared; nodding my head as we herd over the intercom called "All hands-on deck category 3 is approaching." The shock would mirror my face as we looked at each other, hearing the intercom in my room repeat its message. It's been a while before they have gotten this close to the Island. However, the scary part was that it wasn't this big 9 years ago. "Calling all calvary to take your position this is not a drill!" The intercom would ring out in destress. Looking out the window. I noted that I couldn't see anything but the black and green fog that clouded my view of the sea. LaVonne....d-do you think we would be called" Bonnie would stutter as you can physically see her tremble. I wanted to say no don't worry about it or anything to comfort her however I didn't know if we would ever be called out there but that wasn't the thing that was scaring her. it's what we don't know and what's exactly was out there.

A category 3 can kill anyone even some of our most skillful Fighters has been taken down by one of those creatures and I don't want to die not yet I don't want this to be my first and last fight. As that thought ran through my mind. I was just standing there looking out through the fog clutching my fist as gunfire and beam sound whistle through the air. Explosions going off in the background as each one hit the ground you can feel it vibrate the Earth.

The smell of soot-filled my nose as you can hear the crackle of fire burn the nearby vegetation. In a panic over the intercom, the words had been said: "Alpha-Omega take your stations this is not a drill" with a gasp Bonnie looked at me shaking violently. I grabbed her by the hand and said " I bloom in the summer and fight till the last petal falls. We trained for this. Stick with me and we will live together" with a nod she wiped her tears "I don't want to die-" "and we won't " I cut her off " we got a job to do."

Bonnie was shaken and so was I, there was no telling what would happen out there. However, as I open the door that leads to the hallway. A loud whistle of flames sounded as if it was coming our way. I looked back and sure enough, I saw a purple sphere heading our way through the window. In a panic, I grabbed Bonnie's wrist and started running down the hall. Then when it hit, I felt the floor bounced from under me as the stone shatter and crumbled. I couldn't sense anything. I just kept running holding tightly onto Bonnie's wrist. She must have panicked too because we were running at a fast pace. A sonic boom had blown us away a few feet as my body crashed to an open door.

Flames flew above my head as metal began to Creak and crack, Bending unnaturally to the side. Sore and a bit dazed I laugh because I could still move. My head was aching as blood would leave my arm and head, but a smile was still across my face because I was still alive. I made it through a Category 3 Plasma Blast at such a close-ranged. I laugh with glee and I looked over to my right hand. It was still holding on to Bonnie I never let go of her wrist.

"Bonnie, we made it!" Laughing hysterically as my eyesight was a little foggy but I can still see her bright red polished fingernails though sadly something was off. Rubbing my eyes, I could hear other survivors. Coughing and hacking, some screaming in pain, and others pleading for help. But the only voice I wanted to hear was the one voice I couldn't hear. I let my eye get adjusted to the dim and damaged lighting that was once a well light hideout and saw all the Carnage and destruction that the plasma blast left behind. The blood that splatters the charted hallway, the crumble of the pass existed floor. But. Now with the non-existent ceiling that once covered half of the building was shown the darken sky covered in purplish-green smoke blocking out our sun.

But honestly, that wasn't the worst part I can see. I sat there frozen in time, my world as crumbling around me.

, As I sat there looking at one thing." Lieutenant Baldwin!" I can hear a Soldier calling my name " Lieutenant! Lieutenant are you ok!" "Can you hear me" I gotten shaken by the shoulder, but I couldn't respond. I was stuck looking at my girlfriend's severed chared arm. That still holds the promise ring I gave to her. I was so sure we both made it but in truth I just made it and Bonnie was dead. I wanted to cry so much but I couldn't. I would just take off the ring I gave him and place it in my bra.

The tears would roll down my cheeks, but I wasn't sad I was angry... so Furious that the thing that killed my girlfriend who was also my best friend. That thing stared at me, from the nearby waters. Mocking me as if it knew exactly who I was and how much the person arm I was holding means so much to me. " I will kill you...how dear you!" I would scream at the monster, as if it knew what I said, it would roar back in retort to what I said as if giving me a response. My head snapped to the right were a hand full of soldiers have gathered around me waiting for an order. "Who still in charge!" I would yell at one of what looks like the. Only corporal. I must have startled him a bit however What he said. Had chilled me to the bone " you are ma'am"
