13 "Believe"

"You're insane."

"Do you really need to tell me?"

"I don't want to 'strip and kill' you. I never knew Angels existed until now."

"Deception is a very obvious concept you know. You can hide so well we can turn a blind eye to what's really there."

"How can I prove that I'm not part of whatever you're talking about?"

Dario went silent; unable to answer, his golden orbs darkening.

"You...have no basis for accusing me. At all." Karina turned away, scoffing.

"There...is a way."

Karina's eyes instantly lit up, the solution to this unreasonable problem popping up excitedly in front of her.

"Let's see…mundane" Her hope died as quickly as it grew.

"What? What is it, Dario?" She pleaded strongly, her tone clawingly desperate.

"It's not worth it. You would refuse it and It's impractical; so it's not worth my energy."

She cursed under breath, "Dario I swear to god, tell me the damn way." Each syllable seething.

"I would have to wipe everything off your mind, to leave nothing but an empty vessel. Would you want to risk that too?"

Catching her off guard, she stood agape.

"That's what I thought. You can be human and still be a pawn to them."

"Who?" Dario didn't answer; his ominous demeanor became more prominent as his eyes bore into hers. He looked like he was struggling; to break out of something holding him tightly in place.

"This is ridiculous." Karina's movements were clumsy as she whipped the strange book out in front of Dario.

"Where the hell did you get that now?" Dario tilted his head sideways; half surprised.

"I found it in my house; It was strangely translucent. I didn't know what to do about it...I-It didn't have anything inside it." She fumbled with her words, hoping to get any sign of belief.

"Then...suddenly the book was filled with words and drawings. I tried to go through it; to find anything, but it vanished again." She paused as Dario arched an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue. "

"At the same time it all vanished, I saw black wings."

"So you think it's me right?" She hadn't expected the casual remark.

"It was me. I walk around the city at night. I happened to come back to see if anything came again to cause a nuisance."

"I think the book only shows the content when I'm in the presence of an angel."

"Yes. What a smart observation mundane. Except for the fact that that book shouldn't even be here on earth."

"It's a book from Enkeli, I know. I had seen figures of wings...words that I couldn't understand."

"The only way a book from our realm could get here is if it was brought by someone from Enkeli." It dawned on Karina how the case worsened for her. Now Dario had enough reason to suspect her working with who knows what.

"This Isn't looking good for me."

"Sure isn't." Dario seemed indifferent; as if he was waiting for her to mess up and land in a trap she made for herself. Except it wasn't. The universe just wasn't letting her go.

"You're being so unreasonable."

She opened the book, finding it to be as she expected; all the original content neatly filled. She moved a few steps forward, not wanting to be next to Dario.

The unfamiliar handwriting frustrated her too much. She quickly flipped over the pages to find drawings. The figure of dark wings came up. It was exactly like Dario's. This part must have been about fallen angels.

Karina wanted to read it; to find any information or clue. "How do I read this?" Karina murmured lowly to Dario.

"You look pathetic with this act." He grabbed the book; at the same time, a thick strand of his black hair dipped forward, the sculpture-like face of his accentuated.

She tried to ignore his snide comment, "How do I read this?"

He kept quiet as he focused on the book, waving his finger subtly.

Dario handed the book to her, "Look through all you want, it'll only last for a few minutes." She didn't care to question further; she jumped to read the book.

Karina found a particularly interesting figure. A Nova. Under the figure, it read

'Novas in the mortal realm - possible only with dark divine influence'

That wasn't true; she was walking proof of it. Karina wasn't an angel nor had she met any angel before discovering her ability.

"I can create Novas but the book says otherwise; about some dark divine influence."

Dario was staring into his nails, unmindful of her, "Read further."

Karina continued to read further, her heart dropping seeing what was needed to create them.
