9 Chapter 9: Planning a Wedding

(Reagan’s POV)

The charity event that I had attended with Alexander the night before had worn me out. Alexander had introduced me to his family, his best friend Harry, and others that were associated with his family and his father’s company. The only thing that had gotten me through the night was the four glasses of champagne that I had managed to down before Alexander had stopped when I was about to have my fifth glass. By the time the event had ended, Alexander had decided to take me back to his place. When we had arrived, I had immediately collapsed in bed after he had shown me the room where I could sleep.

The sound of my phone vibrating on the bed next to me, made me attempt to sit up but instead, I only managed to prop myself up on my elbow. I picked up the phone and squinted at the caller ID seeing that it was Blake. Immediately I realized that I should have let her know last night that I was coming home but I had been too tired.

“Hello?” I answered, my voice sounding groggy and hoarse.

“Bitch, where the heck are you?! I was going to call the police if you hadn’t answered me?!”

“Blake, you couldn’t have called the police since it hasn’t been 24-72 hours since I left.”

“Whatever, just tell me where the heck you are?!”

I groaned, rubbing my forehead, “I will if you promise to stop screaming into my ear.”

I heard her mutter okay on her end of the line before I continued speaking, “I’m with a guy.”

Blake gasped, “Do you mean that hottie I saw you leave with yesterday, Alexander Griffin?”

“Yeah, how did you know?”

“Because you two are on every social media and news platform that is in existence. How you could not tell me that you were engaged to FREAKING ALEXANDER GRIFFIN?! I mean I thought I was both your bestie and your roomie.”

I ran a hand through my hair, this was just great but honestly what was I expecting. I mean with the amount of media presence that was there at the event yesterday I shouldn’t be surprised that our engagement would already be known. I guess in all honesty I wanted us to be engaged for a little while longer before the whole freaking world knew about it.

“Hey, are you still there? Did you hang up on me?” Blake questioned, snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Oh no sorry, I was just thinking, what were you saying?”

“I asked you why the heck didn’t you tell me that you were engaged and that the person that you’re engaged to be Alexander Griffin, the future CEO of Griffin International! Like seriously how did you manage to bag a man like that?! No offense cause you’re hot but you two are not exactly people that run in the same social circles.”

Trust me I wondered the same to myself every day, but I decided to tell Blake something different, “It’s a long story but I promise I’ll tell you when I get back.”

“You better, I want all of the details.”

I looked up to see Alexander in the doorway and realized that he wanted me to hang up the phone, “Hey Blake I got to go, but I should be back either this evening or tonight.”

“Okay well, you better tell me everything and enjoy that hottie of a fiancee that you’ve got.”

We said our goodbyes and then I hung up the phone and looked up at Alexander, “Something that you need?”

Alexander crossed his arms over his chest, “I thought that since you are already here we should begin the wedding planning.”

I propped my pillow up on the bed’s headboard and rested my back against it, “Why is there any need to plan? I mean this wedding is a whole sham anyway, right?”

He nodded, “It is but if this marriage is to be believed by the media and more importantly my father, it has to seem as real as possible.”

I didn’t want to admit it but Alexander was right, if we want to successfully fool everyone, specifically for Alexander’s benefit, this marriage and the wedding needed to look and feel real. I would have never thought that my engagement and marriage would both be fake. Yet here I was, planning a fake marriage with my fake fiancee.

“So what’s first?” I asked.

“Well first you should get yourself cleaned up, you’re still in your dress from last night and your eyes make you look like a raccoon. When you’re done just meet me downstairs in the dining area.” With that last remark, Alexander pushed himself off of the doorway and made his way from my room heading down the stairs.

I discovered that there was a bathroom that was adjoined to the room that I stayed in so I stepped in to clean myself up. Just like Alexander had said, I looked like a complete and absolute mess, so I showered and cleaned my face before exiting the bathroom. On the bed was the outfit that I had worn yesterday, folded and freshly clean. I put on my clothes and fixed my hair before making my way downstairs, entering the dining room where Alexander said that he would be waiting for me.

On the table was a plethora of food, pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, bowls of different fruits, toast, and croissants. I loaded my plate with just about everything before joining Alexander at the table where we began to discuss our wedding plans. We talked about and looked up wedding dresses, venues, caterers, guests, and just about everything else that is typically associated with a wedding.

“Sir, Miss Victoria Copenhagen is here to see you.” an elderly man, who I assumed worked for Alexander interrupted.

“Tell her that she can meet me in here.” the man nodded before exiting the room and coming back with a woman.

I noticed that she was the same woman from last night, the one that had been seated with Alexander’s family when we had arrived at their table. She was gorgeous, and a woman that seemed like Alexander’s typical type. She was tall, probably around Alexander’s height with perfectly curled strawberry-blonde hair, deep green eyes, and freckled porcelain skin. When she looked at me, her gaze was filled with disdain but then she masked it with a smile.

“Hello, Alexander I’m here to pick up a file that my father left with you a couple of days ago.”

“Ah, yes it is right upstairs let me go grab that for you,” Alexander said as he stood up from the chair.

“I’ll be right back dear,” he whispered, pecking my cheek to which I gave no answer and simply just smiled, trying to mask my discomfort.

While I sat there waiting for Alexander, Victoria stood behind me in silence. I then felt someone come up behind me and turned my head to see that Victoria had now approached the table. She slammed her hand down on the table, startling me.

“Listen, little girl, I don’t know who you are or what you are doing with Alexander but trust me when I say that I am going to expose you for what you truly are, a fake. So I am giving you a choice now, either call off your engagement with Alexander, or I promise I will make your life a living hell.” she hissed.

Just then we both turned our heads to hear footsteps making their way down the stairs and Victoria quickly move back to her former position. I was so shocked by our encounter that I couldn’t move let alone speak. The only thing that I kept thinking of was what exactly had I gotten myself into.
