He covered his face with a cloak when they entered the shop. She raised a brow at his sudden action.

"Our family has fallen. They would be suspicious if I showed them gems. Do you want to get implicated?" He pulled the cloak lower to make sure he was not seen when she sighed.

"Just how terrible it was! Why have I not heard or read about it?" she mumbled as she walked in.

But then she had not read anything about herself either. Looks like there were many more characters hidden in the story to give it depth.

She showed the ruby to the jeweler who was surprised by the gem's quality and looks.

"So, how much money can I receive against it?" The man checked the rare gem again and then coughed.

"Before that, I want to ask you how you got the gem?"

"Ah! It is a gift from your highness for serving the palace well." Ah! The jeweler only noticed Mary's uniform after that.
