1 Chapter 1

Lolli.

The big sign said. It wasn't lit up considering it was the middle of the afternoon, normally it would lit up in blue; I had walked by it before. It was a club that many people would stand in line for, why, I don't know.

But now I was here standing in front of the club, that apparently Mark's brother owns, not that I have ever met Mark's brother, he was the black sheep of the family, not Mark, Miles that is.

Whatever.

I was here because I needed I job and Mark had offered to help me and this was his way of helping.

Thanks Mark.

It's been 4 months without a job. Everything just when to hell after William, my boyfriend of 4 years broke up with me, I had to move back in with my mother and I got fired from my job as a psychologist, and getting a new one was not as easy as I thought.

Mark had offered to help. He was a psychologist too; we met in college, in a psychology class, and has been close friends, since.

He has never really talked about Miles except that he was not his family's best member as he dropped out of college and started a nightclub. He was always the one to get into trouble with their family about the decisions he made that they didn't approve of.

I shook my head at that thought.

"Okay, here we go."

I took a deep breath before walking in the door.

I walked into the club, there was some music playing on low volume. I got into the club itself and looked around; there were some people in here working.

I walked up to the bar where a guy sat working.

I placed a smile on my face.

"Hey."

He turned a looked at me.

He was slightly older, maybe a Manager. He looked me up and down.

"Can I help you?" he said.

"Yes. Hey, I'm Adeline I," He didn't let me finish.

"We're not hiring." He turned back to his paperwork.

I blinked at his back.

Asshole.

"Right. I'm here to talk to Miles Hunter." He turned to look at me again with a judgmental look.

"Really? Do you have an appointment with him?"

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

This is humiliating to the extreme.

I was in a club looking for a job, which is embarrassing, as I have not had a whole education in psychology.

"Not really. His brother Mark told me that Miles would see me." I smiled sweetly.

"Oh really. Do you really think I'm gonna let you see the boss."

Yes, that's what I've just told you.

"Okay listen, I don't want to be here as much as you want me here. But I really need to talk to him." The smile left my face.

"What's your name?"

"Adeline Rooster. Miles knows that I need to talk to him."

"He's in his office. Julia, can you take Adeline to Miles." He looked to a girl down the bar.

She came up to us.

She looked me over. Her hair was black and she was wearing a uniform.

She looked to the man; he waved his hand behind him.

"Okay." she looked at me. "Follow me." She turned a walk away.

She walked through the club and up to a set of stairs leading up to an upper level of the club.

There was a smaller bar up there too, there were three guys up there they looked at me, I just smiled.

We got to a door that Julia typed in a code to unlock it. I looked behind me out over the club there was a mirror lining the upper wall.

"Come on." I followed her in through the door.

We walked down the hall to a door on the right.

She looked back at me before knocking.

"Yes" it came from the inside.

She opened the door for me and gave me a smile.

I smiled back at her and walked in the door.

I walked in and the door closed behind me.

The office was big it had a window out over the club; there was a sitting area with a leather couch against the wall, a dark wooden table, and two chairs. A framed photo of four women with different skin tones, with their backs to the photographer, on the wall.

"Can I help you?" I turned towards the Voice.

There was a guy, Miles I assumed; standing against the desk. His dark brown hair was pushed back, he had broad shoulders and he was lean, with his arms crossed. His blue eyes were the only thing that assembled to Mark's.

"Yes. Miles right?" I step forward closer to him.

"Yes. How can I help you?"

"I'm Adeline, I know," What is it with people and not letting me finish speaking today.

"Mark's friend. Yes, I'm aware and as I told Mark I'm not looking at hiring anyone." He smirked at me with a smart look as if he is enjoying that I took the time to come all the way here just so he could say that to my face.
