5 CHAPTER 5

The sky blacked out darker faster than water with ink. Some of the clouds faded into the dark-toned sky and some of them thickened, flying right above the ground. This created a very gloomy and misty atmosphere. Thunder began to rumble and lightning began to flash its way through the eerie path. The sun hid behind the dark colors, it gave enough sunlight to highlight the clouds sinking in.

The fairies inside the school, peeked through the window, "What is that?", said one of the students.

The teacher standing in front of the class scolded the students distracting the class and asked them to concentrate. Her concentration diverted a few seconds later when a dark shadow prevailed in class. They ran towards the class window to take a look.

Everyone was confused and terrified by the towering mist. A thick layer of cloud towered in layers and layers making it extremely difficult to see anything.

"What is this?", said Abby. Miss Swan grabbed both the fairies and proceeded inside the school. The mist was getting denser and denser over time.

"Stay close and don't leave, my hand, okay? said, Miss Swan. She took both Abby and Dory inside the school. When they made it inside, Miss Swan realized that she dropped her purse in the mist outside. Her purse contained everything, her lectures, her board markers, and her personal belongings. She left them in class and went outside to grab her stuff.

The mist was denser than before. On her way to the park, she bumped into Vivian. The mist was so thick that it barely spared room for any visions.

"I am sorry.", said Miss Swan. "It is fine, nobody can see anything in this fog.", she replied. Vivian wasn't aware that Miss Swan just walked passes her, she got into the car with Joe and carefully drove away.

"What is up with this weather?", said Vivian. "We have to be very careful while driving, don't want to hit anyone or anything.", replied Joe. "How is this even possible, how can she be alive Joe? What if she got close to Abby to hurt her? WHAT…. What if she takes Abby away from us and hurt her to hurt us?".

At that point, Joe was not trying to cool or chill Vivian out, he himself was terrified about the situation. Abby was her daughter and seeing her in the hands of the enemy scared him. "Maybe we should change her school, I mean, there are a lot of amazing schools in the fairy world, she will be happy there.", said Joe. "I don't know. I don't think she will be happy in a place without Dory.", replied Vivian, "Joe? I am very scared right now, what if she takes away my peach from us just like the way we took her life from her.".

"She would never hurt her.", replied Joe. "Are you sure about that? Because the last time I checked we drowned her and she wasn't supposed to be breathing. After all that do you really think she wouldn't want revenge? She WANTS REVENGE JOE! She will take away my daughter from me I know, I have a really bad feeling about this Joe, I am telling you... nothing is good.", argued Vivian.

"Do you think Abby knows? About all of this. Of course, she doesn't know all of it but a glimpse of it?", said Joe. "Why? What makes you say that?", said Vivian.

"I went through the vent to spray the potion in her room and she was constantly looking at the vent. At first, I thought she spotted me, but she kept turning around here and there as if she was uncomfortable or freaked out. (paused) I think she knows about the closet.", He added.

"She wouldn't have, she doesn't know any spells nor can she find the key.", replied Vivian. "I hope what you are saying is true.", He said. The mist was very dense, Joe was slowly driving on the road to prevent any accidents. Vivian stared out of the window in dismay, "She is growing really fast. When she finds out the truth, she will bury us alive.".

"That is why it needs to be hidden... forever.", Joe replied. Joe was driving at a steady speed when he felt he hit something in the road.

"OUCH!", said a voice outside. Joe got out of the car to check the injured fairy.

"Rob? What are you doing outside in this weather?", said Joe. Rob grunted and got up from the road. He was out here trying to look at his crops in the field nearby, he thought they might have been affected by the despicable weather. Joe put Rob in the backseat of his car and drove home.

In the meantime, the school was completely under lockdown, no one was allowed to go outside. The lights in the hallway and room lit up bright. It was around 8 am in the morning and it looked as if it was 2 am in the night.

"What happened all of a sudden?", said Abby, glancing out the window.

"Whatever it is, it is weird man, nothing like this has ever happened here.", said Dory.

No one showing was interest in studying now. The weather made everyone concerned and anxious. They were trying to reach home but the principal had given strict instructions to everyone that not a single fairy will set foot out of the school. Abby and Dory sat quietly in the back seat of class when Miss Swan approached them and said, "What did you want to say to me outside earlier?". Abby and Dory looked at each other and started mumbling stupid things, anything that came up in their minds.

Miss Swan gave them an unusual smile and walked away to the teachers' desk and started grading the papers.

"We must have looked like total idiots.", sighed Abby. "It's fine! It is not the first time she saw us doing something extremely pointless.", smiled Dory.

The weather was nowhere near okay. The sky was getting darker and darker while the mist was getting thick and dense. It was a very confusing situation, no one was sure why it was happening.

"All the roads are blocked and the streets are abandoned," said Rob sitting at the back-seat panting.

"Why are you breathing so hard?", asked Vivian.

"Your husband hit me with his car, should I be smiling at this point?", said Rob. Vivian rolled her eyes and turned to the front.

From the start, Rob and Vivian have never gotten along. They would fight over the slightest excuse and hit each other sometimes. As children, Vivian, Joe, and Rob would play outside their house. Vivian and Joe were neighbors in the past. Rob had a cool, chill of a perspective, while Vivian was perfect, concentrated, and wanted everything to proceed her way. From the start, she has been good at hiding her faults and blaming them on Rob. Whether it was in plays or reality, Vivian has an ability to adapt to any game she is given and overrun it. She creates her own rules and urges everyone to follow them. For her, she is always perfect, always right, and always doing what is best for her family.

She doesn't apologize for her mistakes, doesn't take the blame for her mistakes, and never accepts her blenders. This is Vivian, a selfish little brat.

Silence prevailed in the car after Vivian's and Rob's little clash. Joe ignored the situation and tried to get the car out of the mist. All of a sudden, the car jerked and stopped. "What the hell?!", said Joe. "Why what happened?", asked Vivian, "It stopped, it's not working.", he answered. Joe tried to start the car but it wouldn't budge, it just stopped working all of a sudden.

"Did it run out of gas?", asked Rob. "No, the tank is full to the top.", Joe replied. "Try a magic spell, maybe it works.", added Vivian.

Joe swung his hand in the air, lipped a spell, and blew it on the staring wheel. He turned the key again, but it still didn't startup.

"It is not working.", he complained. The mist was now turning into a black and reddish color. There was no sign of help anywhere around. Joe and Rob got out of the car and took a look at the engine.

"It seems fine to me.", said Rob, "Yeh it doesn't have an object stuck in it or anything, then why isn't it working?". Although both the fairies stood right Infront of the car, the mist made them completely invisible. Vivian, sat in the car, looked through the window to see what the problem was. She got out and joined the other two. "What seems to be the problem?", she asked. "Everything seems fine, I can't figure out what caused it to stop working.", Joe replied.

They were trying to figure out a way to make the car work again when they heard a loud scream nearby. The loud scream was followed by a ferocious growl. "What was that", said Vivian whimpering.

"I don't know.", said Joe. The growl fainted and the entire area went salient again. Vivian, Joe, and Rob didn't utter a single word, they stood there silently beside the car engine. Another snarl filled the atmosphere. This time it was more vibrant and seemed much closer. The growl continued and got closer with time.

"Run, run, run, RUN!', screamed Joe. He got everyone in the car and locked the door. Their hearts were pounding and they were panting heavily. Vivian was the one who was the most scared, she began to pant deeply. Rob looked at her and said, "Now who is panting loudly huh?". "Not now you two, we need to figure out a way to get out of here.", said Joe.

The car bonnet was wide open, nothing could be seen because the windshield was blocked. All of a sudden, the bonnet closed violently and a creature jumped on top of the bonnet. It crawled to the top of the car and started shaking it around vigorously. Vivian, Joe, and Rob were left speechless. Panic surged through their bodies, their legs were wobbly with fear and they couldn't feel anything but blind terror. Vivian grabbed Joe's arm as she felt her stomach clench and was near to throwing up.

Rob, who sat behind all alone was sweating with horror. His hands were cold clammy, his body went cold with fear and there was a raw panic in his voice, "What kind of a fairy was that.". "I don't think it was a fairy Rob, it was something way more.".

Joe tried to play it cool so that Vivian and Rob won't freak out. One of them had to brave in a situation like this. But from the inside, fear gripped his throat and his eyes were widened with alarm.

"Stay calm.", whispered Joe as the unidentified creature began to jump on the car. There was dead silence in the car, only the stomping of the monster, filled their ears. The creature jumped off the car and growled as she ran away to another location.

Vivian released her stress and started crying, "What was that! What was that! That thing... where did it come from!". Joe was trying to warn her to be quiet as the creature might return due to the voice.

Rob suggested that they should start moving gradually towards the east side, to the council, maybe they could come up with a spell to stop the creature.

The car doors creaked opened and closed. Vivian, Joe, and Rob snuck out of the car and flew towards the east with extreme caution. They made sure not to make another sound. After a long dreadful fly, Rob felt a door upfront. He opened the door and got everyone inside. Then he closed it so that nothing could enter.

They had reached inside a supermarket. It was Robs market.

Hey took a few long breaths to celebrate the fact that they made it out alive. They could hear faint screeching and growling outside, they were hoping that those things weren't smart enough to break through the doors.

"Luckily, we made it out alive.", said Joe. Vivian couldn't stand up straight so she sat down. Tears rolled down her eyes as the thought of Abby circulated her mind, "How will we get Abby out of school? The cars are not working, the mist hides everything, and let's not forget the scary little creatures out there.". "We'll figure out what to do, but first we need help, I'll try and make contact with papa Morgan.", said Joe. "And I will keep a lookout outside.", said Rob.

Back there in school, the students were chattering, talking, and laughing, unaware of the situation outside. Abby was leaning against the classroom window and talking to Dory. Unexpectedly, a creature from the mist came barging at the school window behind Abby. Abby was not aware of the creature running at the school. The thick mist made it hard to spot anything outside. Abby was caught completely off guard when a creature banged at the school window. The class screamed loudly and Abby fell to the floor with this shock. She looked behind her and saw blood on the window. Everyone panicked to see the blood on the window.

"Everyone stay calm! Stay down!", screamed Miss Swan. She gathered everyone around her and stared at the window with a horrific look.

Abby was horrified with the sudden thud behind her, she took Dory's hand and crawled towards Miss Swans desk.

"What was that?", a student asked. Abby hugged Miss Swan tightly. The creature didn't leave after a bang. He kept racing towards the school window and trying to break the glass.

"Close the lights!", whispered Miss Swan. One of the fairies from the class got up and switched off all the lights. The continuous banging stopped after a while. The creature had growled away. The students were still on the floor when a janitor entered the class, "What is going on? I heard loud banging noises. Is everyone okay?". He was confused to see the children and Miss Swan, lying on the floor with the lights closed. He gave them a muddled look and switched on the lights.

"No, no no!", went the entire class. As soon as he switched on the lights, a loud growling noise came back and the creature hit the window one more time. The Janitor slipped to the floor with fear. He flew outside the class, leaving the classroom lights on. The creature started hitting the windows again, this time much harder.

Dory swirled her hands in the air and used magic to close the lights. As before, the creature ran away. The fairies used this opportunity to barge out of the class and into the main halls. They closed all the lights as they ran through.

Miss Swan entered the principal's office and made an announcement,

"Hello? hello, everyone is to go to the auditorium, this is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill, proceed to the auditorium NOW!".

She took her class in the auditorium and the rest of the school came flying right in. Miss Megan, the principal, approached Miss Swan and said, "What is this behavior? What are you doing?". Miss Swan needed a moment to catch her breath, "There is a creature…...", she said. "A creature?", asked Miss Megan. "It started banging on the windows and there was blood…...", "there was what? Where did this happen?", asked Miss Megan. "In the classroom, we all were there, it was a monster who tried breaking through the glass.", said Dory.

The principal made sure the entire area was empty and the school lights were all closed. She sent Three janitors to check the entire school. Fairies came rushing into the auditorium from grounds, bathrooms, etc. The janitors swooped the entire area and returned back to the auditorium. The monsters were still lurking outside the school and turns out that there was more than one creature outside. The entire auditorium was crawling with fairies. They were scared half to death on seeing the monsters attacking the school. There was pin-drop silence everywhere. The mist was getting thicker and was spreading throughout the fairy world.

Papa Morgan addressed the situation and called for a meeting at the town council office. He was not aware of the attacks happening and the creatures lurking in the mist.

No one was able to reach the meeting. Joe tried to call Papa Morgan and the others but, there was no service. The entire radio system stopped working. There was no communication, no nothing. Eventually, the town's main power supply cut out and there was darkness everywhere. The torches blinked and shut down, the cars were not working, the T.V, the radio, cell phones, power, electricity, etc., all had shut down. The elder fairies used their magic to torch up some candles and light up the auditorium.

"I will try and call out for help. In the meantime, I want everyone to stay where they are and not say a word. Don't panic. I.... I.... will be right back.", said Miss Megan.

She went through the hallways to her office. Her office was located right in front of the main school door. She was looking around, here and there to make sure that nothing was hiding in the corridors. She approached her office and saw the main school gate wide open, all covered in mist. Her heart sank at that very moment as she saw the mist spreading throughout the main hallway and her office. Miss Megan heard a loud growl in the corridor covered with the mist.

Miss Megan stood frozen in the middle of the hallway, as a massive horrifying creature ran towards her. Her legs wobbled with fear and couldn't fly. Miss Megan couldn't say a word, she just stood there while the monster appeared through the mist.
