42 42. Crafting Magic Item

Ben is learning to craft a magic item now. He watches Roubaul make a wand using a wood stick. Roubaul writes some magic letters on the wand to make it capable of flowing Ethernano.

"It doesn't use lacrima?" asks Ben.

"No, this is the old model wand that hasn't used lacrima. I'll show you the difference in their crafting process," says Roubaul.

Roubaul then proceeds to craft the wand that uses lacrima. The concept of this lacrima is like a battery that stores Ethernano. It can be charged with Ethernano after usage, and used when the mage is running out of it.

The process is similar and still uses magic letters. However, the formula is different. The one with lacrima has a more complex formula because it has more mechanisms.

But it's not a problem for Ben who has a supercomputer in his head. Ben uses AI Chip to scan the process and learn it. Ben won't be too engrossed on magic item crafting after all. So it's enough to have AI Chip save the procedure and he can access it anytime.

"It's similar to the formula I used on the magic car," says Ben.

"Of course, because the principle is the same," says Roubaul.

Roubaul explains that the principle for magic item crafting is the same. They all use magic letters to create the desired effect. Different combinations make different effects.

That's why Ben needs to learn about magic letters first. But that's not a problem because he had learned it. Magic letters are included in the thick Book that he got from Roubaul.

Ben has finished scanning that book and saved it in AI Chip's database. So he can always access it at any time. Furthermore, he can ask AI Chip to build the formula with her super computation ability.

Then Ben tries to craft 2 wands too. He follows the steps that Roubaul showed him and uses the same formulas. Even so, the results are different. Ben's wands are crude and when he tries them, they break instantly.

"Experience really talks here," says Ben.

"Keep practicing and you'll become better slowly. Even the most genius crafter will fail at first. Everyone has their share of failure," says Roubaul.

Ben spends the rest of his day crafting wands. He has succeeded to copy the normal wand. But then he starts experimenting by using other formulas. All the experiments failed, but Ben is satisfied because he gets a lot of data.

The next morning, Wendy cast a healing spell on Ben again. When she finished, Ben's broken bones have almost healed completely. Just getting some sunlight will make him recover fully.

Ben continues his magic item crafting practice in the field. This way, he can get sunlight and also experiment. Ben still uses wood sticks as his materials, because he can find them everywhere.

The girls are playing & training on the field too. They also ask him to evaluate their training sometimes. The girls have become more serious with their training nowadays. They don't want to lose to the students that they teach, after all.

Ben teaches the girls while experimenting to make magic wands. For a week, Ben keep doing those. He trains, teach the girls, crafts magic wands, and experiments with formulas.

He gets a very good result in this 1 week. His achievement doesn't faze Roubaul anymore now. The old man even said that he have achieved months of learning in a week. It is all thanks to AI Chip's supercomputing ability.

On Monday, Team Ben teaches the students again. Now Ben trains their physical power and the method to raise their MP. What he teaches them is the same as what he trained in the cave.

It will be more effective if they train in a place with high magical density. But it will still work even in normal places. They will still get a good result if they train it every day, after all.

Then like usual, Ben goes to the library after school is finished. But now he is focused on the books about magic items and magic letters. He already has a plan on what magic item that he wants to make. But he needs a lot of data for it.

After that, Ben doesn't pick up the girls, but he buys some materials first. He buys some good metals to make his magic item. Then he picks up the girls and returns home.

The next day, Ben start his project to make his magic item. He & AI Chip formulate the magic letters. Then he tests the formula using wood first.

Ben starts to make the crude shape of the magic item using wood. When he finishes, the item's shape becomes clear. It's a pistol, and he made it from wood for trial.

Ben makes 5 wood pistols because he & AI Chip have made 3 formulas. The other 2 are for spares. Ben install the formulas on the wood pistols. Then after he finishes, he tries the pistols. Roubaul & the girls come to watch the test.

Ben picks up the first pistol and aims at a tree, *BANG*. Ben shoots the pistol, but instead of shooting a bullet, it explodes. Luckily, Ben wears protective clothing that Roubaul made from the serpent's scales.

"Hmm, the force is too strong. Even if I use metal, it will break slowly. It also spread the force instead of focusing on shooting forward," says Ben.

Ben try the second one, but now the force is too weak. Then the last one has good force, but the charging is too long. Ben order AI Chip to analyze the results and fix the problems.

AI Chip analyzes the 3 models with Ben's guide. It takes half an hour for them to finish the new formula. Ben installs it on the 4th wood pistols, then he tries it.

*BANG* The pistol shoots nicely and has enough power. But it is still using his magic power as fuel. So he places a lacrima on the 5th pistol and uses the same formula. Ben tries it again, and it has the same power as the 4th pistol.

"It has good power, but that won't be enough to fight high-leveled enemies. You need to use more power on it," says Roubaul.

"I know, I will try it on the one made of metal and raise the power slowly until I find the correct amount of power. I also want to add elements on the bullets."

"Is that even possible?" Roubaul raised an eyebrow.

"I'll make it possible," says Ben while smirking.

Ben has AI Chip, so he is really confident that he can make it. He just needs time to make it and he has the time. He is not in a rush and he can take his time to build a good magic pistol.

After that, Ben makes the pistol using the metals that he had bought yesterday. He heats the metal using his magic until it becomes soft enough for him to shape with his hands, but not too hot that it will melt.

Ben has done this before when he built his car. So he can do it easier and faster this time. He finishes it the next day, but it is just a plain pistol.

It only has a handle, barrel, trigger, and small lacrima crystal. It is still for the experiment, after all, so no need for fancy design.

Ben install the formula that has more power than the one he used on the wood pistol. Ben tries it by shooting it on a tree, and it shoots nicely.

"Good power, but it can hold more. Let's raise the power a little." Ben & AI Chip upgrade the formula and add more power. Then when he tries it again, the shot becomes better. It has more firepower and the pistol can hold the effect.

"Now, let's try to add elements to the bullets."
