170 170. Renting A House
Ben & his sisters have joined Fairy Tail. Wendy has her guild mark on her right shoulder with blue color. Carla also has a blue-colored mark placed on her back. Bella also has it on her back but the color is white.
As for Ben, he has his Fairy Tail mark on his right shoulder just like Wendy. His new guild mark is yellow and it looks bright on his dark skin. But on his left chest, there is another guild mark, it's a black Cait Shelter mark.
Ben has asked Makarov to make it and the old man allows it as long as it's hidden most of the time. It is made of the black sun devil slayer mark on his left chest. The black mark can actually be shaped and expanded to cover half of his body. So he changed the sun shape to create the Cait Shelter Mark.
After the party, they stay in Mira's house for a night because they don't have a place in Magnolia. There is a dormitory for both male & female members, but Ben wants to rent a house. So the next day, they search for a house to rent.
Ben decides to rent a house for now even though he has enough money to buy one. It's because he doesn't want to buy a house, he prefers building it so he can design it however he wants. Besides, he plans to explore the world, so having a house seems to be wasteful because he will go for years.
They go to an agent together with Mira. She knows someone that can be trusted so they don't need to worry about anything. Even though Ben isn't worried about being duped because he knows how to handle it, having less trouble is always better.
The agent is a grumpy-faced middle-aged man. He runs a small agency that handles transportation and accommodation. There are not many people that use his agency's service, but those who use it are never disappointed and will always use their service again.
"Long time no see, Uncle Marcus," says Mira.
"Yeah, what do you want now?" says Marcus with a grumpy tone.
"Can you stop talking like that? This is why you only have a few customers," says Mira, reprimanding Marcus.
"This is how I always talk. I won't change it just to please people. Just say what you want from me," says Marcus.
"Sigh, alright, alright. It's not me who needs your help, it's them. They want to rent a house," says Mira while pointing at Ben & his sisters.
"What kind of house?" asks Marcus while looking at Ben.
"A simple but comfy house with at least 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It will be better if the house is close to the guild," says Ben.
"The rent will get higher the closer it gets to Fairy Tail. It's because the safety there is better, supposedly," says Marcus.
"Money is not a problem. I just don't want my sisters to walk too far from the guild every day," says Ben.
"Hmm, wait here," says Marcus before he leaves the room.
Marcus returns after 10 minutes and he gives them 5 sheets of paper. The papers have pictures of houses and lists of their features. Ben takes them and reads through them fast before choosing 3 houses that seem good.
"Can we check these houses?" asks Ben.
"Sure, let's go now while I'm free," says Marcus.
"Aren't you usually free because not many people come here?" asks Mira teasingly.
Marcus clicks his tongue and grumbles as he walks away. The girls giggle and Ben just sighs seeing this before they follow Marcus. This man always looks grumpy but never really gets mad, that's why he is very fun to tease.
They go to the first house located beside a small river. It looks good from the outside and the rooms are just like what Ben wants. But the furniture here is quite old and the girls don't like the designs.
So they don't take the 1st house and go to the 2nd house. It's rather hidden and the only way to go here is through a small road. But it makes this house quite peaceful because the sound from the street is minimum.
They like the rooms and furniture so this house is good. But they still need to check the 3rd house to know if it's better. The 3rd house is really better and they all like it. Marcus really knows how to raise their expectation slowly.
It is a 2 storey house painted in yellow and orange color that located beside the river just like the 1st one. But it is still quite new because it has just been built last year. So everything is still in good condition and it even has a small garden behind it.
Ben checks everything to know if there is any hidden thing here, but he doesn't find it. So this house is safe and it also meets their requirements. Although it's certainly more expensive than the other 2.
"How much is this house?" asks Ben.
"120 thousand per month. If you pay for a year, then you just need to pay 1,2 million," says Marcus.
"Hmm, I'll pay monthly first. If we like it then I'll rent it yearly," says Ben.
"Alright, let's take care of the paperwork in my office," says Marcus.
They return to the office and take care of the paperwork. Ben reads the contract carefully and even asks AI Chip to find if there's any trap. But nothing is found and it makes him relieved because Marcus is honest.
He signs the contract and pays the first month's rent immediately. After that, they go to the market first to buy some necessities. They buy food ingredients and some daily necessities before going to their new house.
They spend that day arranging all their items in the new house. Mira also helps them that day and doesn't go to the guild at all. She says she just wants to help, but Ben knows she is avoiding the punishment for leaving her job to Elfman & Thunder God Tribe.
They finish the arrangement in the evening and decide to have dinner immediately because they're hungry. After dinner, they go to a public bathhouse before they sleep in their new rented house.
For the next few days, Ben & his sisters aren't taking any job yet. They use these few days to adapt to the town and their new guild. They live in a new place and are surrounded by new people, so they need to get used to it first.
In these few days, Ben keeps getting challenged by the male Mages. They still can't accept the fact that they get defeated easily by a flick from Ben, especially Natsu who can challenge him 10 times a day. But the result never changes and Ben always wins with a flick.
A strange thing also happened in these few days. While he goes home from the guild, Ben finds Gajeel is chasing a cat in an alley. The Iron Dragon Slayer is jealous of him, Wendy, and Natsu for having cats, so he tries to get one too.
Gajeel gets very embarrassed when Ben finds him so Ben says that he won't tell anyone before leaving immediately. But Gajeel doesn't believe him so he keeps watching Ben every time they are in the guild and it makes Ben uncomfortable.
Just when Ben wants to talk with Gajeel about this, the front door suddenly gets opened quite hard and makes a loud sound. It gathers everyone's attention and they all look at the door. Some young teenagers enter the building but they aren't Fairy Tail Mages.
"Excuse me, is this Fairy Tail Guild? We are looking for someone," says a teen boy with light green hair.
Ben widens his eyes when he sees these teenagers, "Wait! Aren't you-?"
