21 Chapter 21: Demon Bear(1)

*Earthland, Ishgar, Fiore*

*April 13, year 772*

*Afternoon*

We were walking on a mountain road as we pushed aside bushes and branches.

I looked at Cana who was excitedly looking around as this was the first time she had come to the wilds.

I walked to her side and flicked her head.

"Ouch! What was that for?" She asked looking at me with an angry face.

"Stop being so jolly, pay attention to the surroundings, there could be other predators around," I said as I looked around to see if there was anything that would attract my attention.

She stomped her feet and turned to look at Gildarts at the back of the team making sure everything is under control.

Seeing his cute daughter looking at him like this, he couldn't help but stretched out his hand and squeeze her cheeks.

"Shtop squeshing mwe" She said as she tried to pull her face out of Gildart's arms.

"But you look so cute Hahahaha," Gildarts said as he pulled back his arms and watched his daughter rub her sore cheeks making him want to do it again but he stopped himself.

"Anyway what John Kiddo said is right, when you are out on missions it's better to pay attention to your surroundings so as not to be caught off guard by the enemy."

"um," She nodded and started to look around.

We walked like this for about twenty minutes, before we reached an open spot with a cave on the mountain wall.

Besides the cave is a rushing stream with a few fish jumping up every now and then.

The sound of water hitting rocks resounded in the area, but if you pay attention close enough you will hear low snores from the cave.

"From the looks of it, this is the place where the demon bear resides," I said as I compared the place to what Morgan described.

" Yeah it is indeed this place, now it's your time to shine, how will you hunt this demon bear?" Gildarts asked as he took out a fishing rod from his backpack and went fishing in the stream.

"Anyway, how you hunt that beast is not my concern, but remember I won't help til it's really needed, plus I think you can do it easily."

We stayed in place as we talked about how to deal with this bear.

"So, any plans?" I asked Cana.

"Don't we just rush up and beat the bear?" She said as she punch at the air.

I facepalmed, how could I expect a six-year-old to have any plans with no experience whatsoever?

"Ugh, Just leave it to me then."

I think for a few minutes then remember my gardening tools and axe inside my Mage's Sanctuary.

I then took out my shovel and axe from my Mage's Sanctuary.

"So we're gonna dig a hole for the demon bear to fall into and insert a few sharp stakes at the bottom, this will make it easier for us to kill it."

"let's put two fish on the trap to lure the bear to make sure it works."

We then spent an hour and a half preparing the trap. ( Don't ask how it's so fast, it's anime logic)

"Now then let's wait for a while for the bear to take the bait."

On the stream nearby Gildarts smirked as if thinking of something funny.

We waited for a few minutes when the snoring stopped and sure enough, another few minutes later a demon bear came out of the cave.

This bear has brown fur about two meters long and about two to three meters tall looking huge. This bear contrary to its name looks cute if you ignore its 15 cm long claws.

We watched it approach the trap as we hide inside a thick bush.

"It's so cute, I thought it would be ugly since it's named demon bear," Cana said as she looked at the bear.

"Well, demon bear is a general name for many bear-type magical creatures. Let's wait for it to fall for the trap."

We watched the bear circle the trap a few more times, and after making sure that there is no danger, the bear happily walked to the fish.

But as the bear grabbed the fish and sat down, the ground suddenly collapsed and the bear fell right into the trap.

"ROAR!" (I don't know what sound bear makes so yeah.)

A roar of pain came from the pit as the bear got pierced by the stakes at the bottom of the pit.

"Come on let's finish it quickly."

We walked to the pit and somehow I got this feeling that this was going way too easy. When suddenly I remembered a book that describes magical creatures.

It is said that adult low-level bear-type magical creatures typically measure to be two to three meters long and three to four meters tall.

I quickly looked at the bear roaring bear in the pit that looked a little smaller than the said size.

A horrible thought surfaced in my mind as I quickly pulled Cana away from the pit.

"Hey! Why are you pulling me?" She turned around and saw my solemn face.

She was about to say something when a loud and fierce roar came out of the cave.

"ROAAAAAR!!!!!"
