6 Flashes of Memory

"Lunchtime!" Ji-ae cheered, lifting her arms above her head. Briefly she thought she saw the corners of Rai's mouth move slightly; was that a smile?

She glanced over at him and saw his usual stoic expression. Maybe I imagined it?

His eyes shifted towards her and locked them with hers. She beamed at him and then took his arm. "Let's go to the cafeteria. The food is terrible, but it's better than nothing right?"

"Hey wait up, Ji!" Shinwoo yelled after her.

Ji-ae laughed in his direction and then faced the front again; her arm now linked with Rai's. For some reason it felt natural, like she had done it so many times before.

They entered the cafeteria and found a table to sit at. Shinwoo shouted to the dinner lady that they wanted ramyeon.

He went up to get it and then set it on their table. After he handed out the bowls, he picked up his chopsticks.

"You haven't tried this before, right? It's pretty good." Shinwoo told Rai.

The lunch hour was spent teaching Rai the right way to eat ramyeon and soon it was time to go back to class.

After school they all walked home together and Shinwoo was complaining about losing every time at the arcades; something that happened regularly.

Ji-ae rolled her eyes and ignored the two bickering males and instead focused her attention on the one beside her.

Rai.

Constantly she was trying to remember every piece of the past they shared, but every time she was close to figuring things out a pain would shoot through her head. And her vision would turn white, wiping her memories almost clean.

Why couldn't she remember? What was stopping her?

Her daydream was shattered to pieces when a blood-curdling scream sounded out in the darkened skies.

"What was that?!"

"This voice is..." Shinwoo set off running and the others followed behind him.

"Yuna!!"

Without hesitation, Shinwoo ran at the guy who had a firm grip on Yuna's arm and jumped, kicking him away. The guy smacked into the wall opposite and rubble rained down.

"Yuna, are you ok?"

Ji-ae and Rai stood at the entrance of the alleyway. All of a sudden a scene from what she assumed was the past flashed through her mind.

"Let go off me!" She struggled to free herself, but the guy was just too strong. Her powers had for some unknown reason weakened significantly and she was finding it hard to fight back.

No one knew exactly what was happening to her powers, they just knew that she had to be careful when confronted by the enemy.

Rai and Frankie were always by her side to protect her, but they had had some errands to run so they were nowhere near where she was.

She was walking along minding her own business when someone grabbed her arm.

Turning on her heel she had seen the face of one of their enemies.

"You need to come with me!" The guy drawled, his voice made her skin crawl. "It's not you we're after, it's your little boyfriend Rai."

Her eyes widened at his words.

The guy raised a slimy hand to her face and stroked it. "When he knows that his precious princess has been taken by us, he'll have no choice but to come rescue you and then we'll have him right where we want him."

"You..."

And the memory stopped there. Ji-ae felt light-headed and went to fall backwards, only to be held up by Rai.

Shakily she raised her hand and laid it on his face, "Rai, I'm so..." and then the world around her turned to darkness as she passed out in his arms.

Rai gently laid her down and gazed at her pretty face, she was the girl he had grown to love so much.

When will her memories completely return?
