1 The optimist

I heard someone calling me. But I was reluctant to part with my dream. My intuition telling me not to forget this dream.

Alas my sleep was rudely disrupted by a sobbing female voice. She kept repeating "young master, wake up".

"Lady, I'm a fully grown man and I'm not a master of anything." I said turning myself away from her and covering my head with a blanket.

The sobbing stopped and silent ensued, while I tried to search for that previous dream.

Suddenly I felt a softness rub on my face. The soft sensation of two things every man desires. But the bliss was short lived. It was replaced by an unimaginable pain.

I screamed, as loud as possible. Distancing myself from her while touching my face. I was awake enough to notice the smell of herbs and the bandages on my face. The pain was coming from one half of my face.

As the pain reduced my brain started to process what was happening.

I didn't know where I was, I didn't know who the lady in front of me was, and I didn't know why I was injured.

"Young master, Please forgive me, I caused you pain." The lady bowed to me. She was wearing a black maid outfit, her hair tied back, the outfit emphasising "them puppies". One was a black and white akita and the other was a Pomeranian spitz. Her tone and gestures showed that she knew me very well. But I couldn't remember her at all.

"Wait! Who am I!" (Roll credits).

As a philosophy enthusiast, I often ponder this question. However, today I asked this, because I have truly forgotten myself.

I couldn't remember anything about my name, my birthday, my mother's name or my h*tmail password.

I instinctively reached for my phone so I could at least FaceTime my mom to ask her. She would probably be able to find my memories. "Speaking of faces, the H happened to mine."

I mumbled while searching for my phone.

The maids, expression changed from to ecstatic to confused to horrified. "Has young master gone dumb because of the accident."

"Accident?" I asked hoping to gain some understanding to my situation.

"Yes, Young master. Yesterday, You were found unconscious by some of your schoolmates in the woods. They think you were attacked by a magic beast. Reverend healer did everything he could to save your life."

"But...... But he.....even he couldn't fix your face." The maid started sobbing again.

"Hey, that's a low blow. It wasn't that ugly." I wiped her tears, trying my best to cheer her up.

Even though the notion of living without my memories seemed horrifying, I just decided to roll with it. "Hopeless optimist" that was how I would define myself in two words.

I got up from the bed eager to explore this world and even more eager to release my bladder. My bed was in the centre of a large room. It's walls painted white while the beige ceiling had a picture of a mountain landscape. I walked out of the room leaving the crying maid. As I walked through the maze like corridors, I realised that I had no idea where to go. I stopped in front of a large window over looking a forest covered mountain.

The ever increasing burden of my bladder compelled me to do the unholy deed. I snuck out through the window. Going reasonably far into the forest.

I relaxed my self facing a tree. As my conscious inhibition was released, the energy in my body started to flow freely.

Then, as I watched in horror, an energy beam is released from my body, destroying everything in its path. The picturesque mountain cut in half.

"Holy..."
