9 Not So Useless
"Spence?" Rose's voice woke me up.
The notifications were still in on hold, but I had a lot to do this morning, so unless something like last night happens I'm busy. To be honest, when I saw a system I was really excited, I thought 'I'm going to be so OP' like all those novels… even if that still doesn't happen, I'm grateful that thanks to this I was able to help Hayley. Becoming powerful not always is as important as knowing that people important to you are ok.
I opened my eyes and saw Rose about to shake my shoulder. When she noticed me looking at her, she sat on the edge of my chair to talk a little.
"Hi Rose, early bird as always I see."
"Yeah, I woke up a while ago, and when I was going to the kitchen I noticed Hayley, why is she here?".
"To be honest, I'm not that sure either, yesterday I had this weird feeling that something was not right. I kind of followed my gut and went for a night walk, afterward I found her unconscious in front of her house, there were a couple of weird guys looking for someone too after they left, I brought her here". I had decided to not tell anyone about the system for the moment, the thing was already weird and confusing enough without it.
"You had a gut feeling that told you that your ex-girlfriend was in danger?"
"Of everything I just told that was what caught your attention the most?"
"Yes!!!, It's romantic, when you finished talking, my imagination went wild and I pictured myself being in danger, kidnaped by bad guys to get some ransom. When everything I'm about to lost all hope and fall in despair you appear and came to my rescue. Like a prince in shining armor from the fairy tales, you defeat them despite the dirty trick they try on you. Afterward, you take me to a safe place while carrying me in your arms like a princess, and we get our happily ever after".
I didn't know how to respond to that, and after finishing her monologue Rose face went red, that honesty perk was horrible… thank god I didn't get that one.
I said the best it came to my mind.
"I hope you are never in a situation where you need to be rescued."
Rose face was still red with an awkward smile looking at the floor.
"I'm going to the kitchen before I say more embarrassing stuff."
Again her honesty kicked and run away.
I sighed and went to Hayley's side, the wound was better than yesterday, a tear was falling down her cheek again, I wondered what she suffered yesterday to be in the state that I found her, she was cold which was odd.
Before I could think more about it, something crashed on the floor behind me.
There was G, he was pale and visibly shaken, I went to him right away, his eyes were glued to the sleeping Hayley, his breathing was fast and strained.
"Hey, G look at me, what happened."
I took his head and directed his eyes to look at mine. He was taken aback, and after looking at me for a few seconds, he calmed down, I help him go back to my room. As usual, he started moving around nonstop.
"Are you going to tell me what happened?"
"Who was on the couch?"
"Hayley…"
He was speechless and confused after this revelation.
"I don't get it, when I came into the room and saw her I was shaken, I was scared like if all of my nightmares became true, it even became difficult to breathe."
At that moment something clicked on my head, and a remembered the notifications from last night when I found her.
[An intimidation attempt has been blocked by cold mind]…
Maybe her state was because of that, she could have gotten some kind of power that made her more intimidating.
"Mmmm, maybe she got a power like that, but apparently at least me and rose are immune to whatever it is, go get Hope and go to the backyard through my parent's window, I'm going to leave Hayley in my room for the moment."
Hope was waking up when we went to her room, and after hearing the short version, she didn't believe us so went to see Hayley.
The result wasn't as bad as G, but she felt strange and somewhat scared.
Dante wasn't affected either.
I carried Hayley to my room and left her with Dante looking after her.
I went to the kitchen to speak with everyone about last night
We drank the last of the juice and ate the food that could spoil sooner, leaving the canned food for the future.
"As everyone knows already, Hayley is here…"
I continued by telling the same story I already told to Rose, to G and Hope, and then about we discuss what happened this morning when they saw Hayley.
"Probably someone hit her during a panic attack or something so for the moment the best for her is to stay here." I said.
"We can't decide that right now, we need to talk to her to see if she is dangerous or not."
G immediately opposed my idea, in his heart, he probably knew it was a little stupid, but that sensation was difficult to forget.
"Ok when she wakes up, I'll go with Rose to talk to her, just like me Rose is not affected by whatever Hayley has and she can't lie so if she is dangerous or not it's for her to choose."
Everyone agreed to the idea, and I continued telling the plans for today.
"After we solve Hayley's situation, Rose will try to scout around to get used to her power and test the limits, at the slightest discomfort stop whatever you are doing and rest ok? we don't want anything to happen to you."
She nodded as she looked at me.
Hope and I are going to get the emergency backpacks ready, we might need to make one for Hayley too. G try to see what spares can you get and if you can repair something, prioritize the boiler, hot plates, and the flashlight, I don't want to use fire to cook or boil water since it can make someone notice us".
After telling everyone what to do, we started to work, I went around the house looking for backpacks and bags, Hope went to sort clothes for the girls.
G was carrying almost every electronic device he could find in the house to get spares.
While I was packing stuff, I remembered the pending notifications.
Now it was the right moment to see if there was anything useful.
