40 Girl’s Talk

(Rose POV)

I just watched silently at Spence while he was talking about his new skill with my brother. 'What kind of training was he doing with Hayley? I thought that her training was to suppress her power?

'Maybe he discovered or understood something about the source of our powers or just Hayley's?'

What did he discover about our powers? That's the only reason to change Hayley's training method unless he got a mission for it.

So cool… I wonder if with the party system we will get missions too, how many other things are left to be discovered about his system.

Since the meteor shower, my mind always tends to wander when there is something in my mind. Even if I'm thinking about another stuff, part of my mind is focused on the conversation so it's not like I'm ignoring the others.

While I was listening and thinking we finished eating, this time since G was going to be with Spence there was no need for Dante to keep an eye on him. I wonder how strong he is now after the last upgrades he got. Even if he got hurt in the process he defeated an alligator!

I watch them leave the table and walk outside their apartment.

What should I do? Since Dante is here I could go train a little, I'm pretty sure that I will be able to fly soon, I was able to float a little las time.

Hope was the first to talk when the guys left

"Hayley tell me everything…!".

She thinks that something happened between them?!?!

"…about his fight, is he really ok?

I hate when my mind interrupts the other person talking. This is also common, someone talking my mind wanders before they even finish their sentences and I already think about a possible outcome.

Have you noticed how sometimes you replay a conversation in your mind to see how could have gone better? Well, that happens to me a lot of times while having the conversations, before even knowing the actual contents of the conversations. Is really annoying.

"It was scary…" she started the story from her point of view, She and Spence have been almost all the time together since they arrive so there wasn't a moment for us to hear her version of what happened.

She told us how her soul almost left her body the first time she saw the alligator coming at them. How she felt safer when Spence started to act, and how nervous she was every time Spence dodged the alligator at the last second trying to counter-attack.

I imagined the scene in my mind, just thinking the moment Spence got hit by the alligator made me nervous. 'And I was worried about the date going to well when he was fighting an alligator? What wrong with you Rose!?!?' I felt guilty towards Spence.

While Hayley finished the story it started to rain, I tried to ignore the fact that they slept next to each other. Thank god that didn't rain yesterday… that would have been too romantic… I need to change the topic.

"You changed your training?"

"Yes, it was Spence idea, he asked Dante how he got so good at using his power, Dante answered with his cute "I don't knyow~… I just use it, and he said…"

'Oh so that is!', 'Dante's so cute when he does that'. Two parts of my brain interpreted the last phrase in different ways. The important was that Hayley's new training was still in my mind so when she talked about Dante everything became clear.

"You had to use it for real" I though in a whisper.

Hayley looked at me with her eyes filled with surprised for a few seconds. 'Did I said something bad? Oh my! I interrupted her'.

"Did you talk with Spence at some moment?".

"Just when I went to tell you for lunch…why?".

"Those were his exact words"

Hayley was surprised how we both came to the same conclusion and use similar words, Hope found the perfect moment to tease me.

"Oh my god!! If you two start dating you will be completing each other sentences in no time!!"

'Like if that's possible' I thought her comment. Hayley smiled at Hope comment and added.

"I agree, yesterday was the same, I felt so left out in some parts of the conversations, you two really think alike. I'll go train for a while I feel like I'm advancing more than all the other days together. Don't worry I'm using another apartment to not make the one we have even colder"

I got goosebumps when remembered the coldness of our apartment and thanked Hayley in my heart for not training there. She left with some bottles of water to practice more.

Hope was looking at me with a smile on her face. Then imitating my tone of voice and posture she said.

"Like if that's possible" I felt my face burn up. But at that moment someone knocks on the door and opened it. And Spencer came into the room.

When he saw me he looked at Hope.

"Hope, are you bullying Rose again?"

"I wasn't!!" she seemed hurt by his words and looked at me looking for support, such a great actress.

"Rose, was she teasing you?"

"She was teasing me…" I didn't get a choice but thankfully he didn't ask anything else about it.

"Traitor!!" Hope looked at me and became redder this time.

"I can't lie what do you want me to do!" Spence was looking at us with a smile.

"With G we build a couple of lamps since it's raining it's getting darker earlier so we thought it was a good idea".

He put two lamps on the table and looked around.

"I thought Hayley was here".

"She wanted to train her powers, something about a new method you figured out. She mentioned that she felt like today's advance was more than what she was able to advance in almost all the days before. What did you discover?". Hope asked.

"It was thanks to Dante, the idea of her trying to repress her power was wrong and the correct path should be for her to learn how to use her power. That way instead of trying to not use it, she is going to be able to focus her power on something".

Just the same I came up with, it was the same method that Dante and I have been using almost all the time.

"Hope! Let's train your power!"

She looked back at me.

"I already know how to use it"

"But you are far of mastering it, also if you are able to control your power at a higher level, it will help a lot in the future".

Hope thought of her power as a bullet shield but outside of that she doesn't think much about it, so she didn't get to understand me. I'm sure that Spence thinks the same as me and have already thought about the possible uses of her powers once she developed them.

"She is right Hope, you should train more, there can be even some hidden mysteries to your powers, or they can evolve as Rose's"

Hope got interested by his words and Spence noticed.

"I leave Hope to you". Said Spence with a smile. "I'll go work with G on the crossbows, give a lamp to Hayley if you see her"

I nodded, Hope saw this without understanding what we meant with that but the idea of unlocking some mystery in her ability was enough to motivate her, but not enough to stop her teasing

"Oh my god! So cute both of you! You can even understand each other without words!"

"Stop Hope! I wish it was like that… but it's not!"

She noticed that this time she went overboard

"Sorry Rose" at that moment I just exploded.

"He knows how I feel about him, but he hasn't done anything about it! Even he for some miracle likes me everything is so chaotic right know that romance is far from his mind. He doesn't need something else to worry, he already has enough problems without me bothering him. After the meteor shower, the only reason we all get to keep calm was thanks to him, he became our pillar and I don't want to be a burden for him"

Hope noticed my mood change and hugged me.

"I know that you are like… super smart now, but that doesn't mean that you are always right Rose. What you said maybe is true, but the opposite can also be true. Just like there is the possibility that you would drag him down with your feelings, there is also the possibility of you becoming his strength"

I know she was saying that just to lift my mood, but a glimmer of hope started to shine in my heart.

"Thanks, Hope"

"You are welcome, you know who should be the one to decide if you two get together or not?"

"Spencer and I?"

"Exactly, and for that, you have to be clear about what you want first... both of you may like each other but none of you have taken any step to go further than friends. And don't tell that you have because you never confessed to him".

Like each other? Like if that was possible.

Hope words ended, and different scenarios started to fill my mind, while I helped her with her training. Making her use her power more than usual was taxing on her also the method was different than the usual, but she was motivated.

Every scenario in my mind was just that… another possibility, but even if I understood that I couldn't stop it from happening.

My mind was in chaos. After every bad ending, a good ending played out.

After seeing every possible scenario in my mind Hope words kept resounding louder than ever.

Can I really become his strength?
