1 Beginning of the end

Being a reporter isn't an easy job. I've had to be away from family for long periods of time until they stopped asking when I was going to come back. Having a long list of break ups and lost distant relationships that ended. It never works out. My job always comes first. It is my only source of freedom that I intend to hold onto. I didn't know what I was getting myself into with this one. Going undercover in an underground drug ring with the mafia was not a smart decision on my part. But the story was a once in a lifetime opportunity, just maybe the last one in my life.

" Yasmin wake up" A gentle nudge of my shoulder woke me.

I wake up and roll out of bed and change into my black fitted sweats and black top. I run down stairs and meeting with my friend Noah at the table with a cup of coffee at her side.

" I'm leaving for Boston today, I just thought you would like to say godbye "

" I know we'll stay in touch. Don't get yourself into trouble"

She gives me a look that tell me that information is for myself. Letting her smirk make me smile. We are both reporters that have the same need for justice which brought us both together on a trial we were both working on at some time. Since then we help each other out on cases.

" I'm not going to say goodbye but call me if you need me"

" I hope I won't"

If I ever did then she would know trouble is lurking down my corner. We both hug and I help get her bags into her car. She needed a place to lay low after her cover was blown by a whistle blower from the other side. My guesses is that it was a dirty cop that recognized her. They are the ones that are most likely to bust us in a case since they are always notified when were in one. After helping Noah on her way I get in my car and go to work barely making it in on time.

"Barely made it on time" Spencer glared at me as I swipe my I. D card in the lobby.

" I know 'the next time your late your going to be with the interns'" I say mimicking him.

" Well you should take it under consideration" He presses the elevator button before I could and walk in.

" take the stairs" He points up to the three flight of stairs.

" And don't be late for the meeting" He smirks.

I cannot me late to another meeting again. My boss will have it in for me. I run up the stairs as fast as my feet will take me. I rush to the meeting's room and push the glass doors open just in time as boss comes in. taking my seat just in a matter of seconds. I look around and see Spencer looking at me. Ha, I know for a fact that he is fuming inside.

" Okay. Listen up. I have an important topic to discuss with all of you before you all dismiss from this room." I look at him and take out a piece of paper and a pen.

" three of our  journalists have been heard about a new drug ring mafia that has engulfed our streets. These people steal, take, and use fear to get what they want. I want every one of you to write a story describing how and why they always take children and women leaving the men. Heck not even money from what we've heard. find out there core. What makes them tick. I expect this to be done by the next six months. You are all dismissed, good luck." And with that he walks out.

How the heck am I supposed to write all about that in six months. This is crazy, I've never wrote something that vigorous in a short amount of time. I am so screwed. I need to get in, the only way in is underground. Once I'm in, I can't get caught, the price would only be paid with my life. After the meeting I walk to my desk and open my mail. I hate these task's because whenever boss assigns us on a project we have to write and do other tasks as well. So I always stay busy. After two hours of paper work I go to the lounge and pour myself a cup of coffee. Today is another boring day, until spencer comes in and graces me with his presence.

" I truly didn't think you would make it"

" Aw, Spencer you can't get rid of me that easy. You old grump" I laugh and he ignores me. Again, just like everyday.

" Did you know that the sectary planed a ball for us. To acknowledge us for all the good things we done" he says heavy with sarcasm. We both sit down.

" Really that Is some bullshit. We exposed all of her affairs with the governor when would she 'acknowledge' us" I think aloud.

" I heard she's sleeping with boss what do you think"

" Honestly I think she's trying to get back at boss. Something just doesn't seem right with her being all 'nice' all of a sudden" I try hard to think where she's getting at. A person like her is conniving and vicious. She doesn't do anything without knowing somethings in for her.

" Well I outta go do some more paper work at the office I talk to you later" he got up and pushed his chair back and left.

Ugh. Spencer , he's always taking his job too seriously. Well I get it, Spencer being in the industry for fifteen years now. I think he's on the verge of getting unemployed. There brining in a lot of new people in so I won't be surprised If I even have to go.

I finish my coffee and leave back to my desk. The first thing I see is a nice envelope sitting on my desk I open it and see an invitation to the swan ball.
