In my opinion, the most important thing in any war was forever information.

Know thy enemy, and you can fight 100 battles with no danger of defeat. This was an ancient saying that had always remained a classic.

If you didn't even know your enemy's abilities and weaknesses, and still fought in such a scenario, winning would also be due to luck. In most cases, fighting in such a scenario would only bring disaster upon oneself, though.
