2 Chapter 2

"Amory! Time to go!" said my father. "I'm coming, dad!" I replied. My father, Jafari is the speediest guy I know. He's always in a rush since he owns many law firms in the area. I don't like to use the word, but you can call him "rich" if you want to. We live in a nice neighborhood with my mom, Adanna, and my sister, Jamie. Its September 5th, the start of a new beginning. To meet new people, make some friends, and overall have a good time for these next four years. I have decided to go to St. Helen High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I'm new to this whole Catholic School thing because I have been in public school for my whole life, until now. So when I woke up this morning, I had to wear a uniform. It's a white polo shirt with the school's logo on it and a checkered black & white skirt with black knee-high socks. I don't like it. I'm the type of person that likes to be expressive. Never from speaking, but from, writing, my style in clothing, and in art. That's how I got here, from an art scholarship. Even though my old school didn't have an art program, I did it in my free time and supposedly so good I was admitted in.

"Look at you, my little girl," said my father as I walked down the stairs in my new uniform. "Do you like it?" he said. "It's ok I guess," I said. "It could have been worse." " I remembered Jamie's first day of high school. She was so excited about her four years." He sighed. " I miss her." We all did. She was the glue that stuck this family together. But she went to college last week. She got accepted into Harvard University and moved into her dorm 2 weeks ago. I think if you had the definition of a "perfect" person, it would be Jamie. She was pretty, smart, and popular while she was in high school. She even had a boyfriend named Joel. He was smart, handsome, and part of the football team. I'm going, to be honest, and say I was crushing on him for a while until I realized I had no chance and I quit. They were the Beyonce and Jay-Z of high school, maybe a Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. What I'm saying is that they were a power couple. But Joel went to a different school and I haven't seen him since.

We hopped into the car and off we went. The car ride was mostly silent until he talked about how great Jamie is. " Jamie took 6 AP courses." " She was the prom queen." "She was the top student for her class," he said. Jamie this, Jamie that, I thought. I hated it when he talked about her like she was a Greek god. I think its a way he intimidates me, make me feel unimportant, not special. Maybe that's not the message he is trying to reflect, but that's the way I think.
