The Bear Spirit Is Watching

Bai Jingfei yawned.

This drama had gone on far too long for her liking. She had no clue as to what she was supposed to be doing here. Heavenly doctor Ming was obviously trying to spook the robber gang but she really didn't have anything to do.

Heavenly doctor Ming put his hand on Zou Deming's shoulder.

"I guess an exorcism is in order. Don't you think so priestess NingNing?" he said to Bai Jingfei after inspecting the bandit up and down for a few minutes.

Bai Jingfei, however, was daydreaming.

She was dreaming of going back home and eating some yummy food. Then maybe topping that off with a long and relaxing nap. Her day hadn't been very fun or easy. This new headache was no good either.

In her daze she didn't hear a word of what heavenly doctor Ming had said.

She didn't respond, and stared off into the distance blankly. When heavenly doctor Ming realized he had failed to catch her attention he repeated after clearing his throat.

"Priestess NingNing!" he said, his voice one octave higher than the last time.

This time he finally managed to make her snap out of her daze and respond with a shrill but calm, "Yes?"

Heavenly doctor Ming shook his head in the direction of the big bandit boss and Bai Jingfei suddenly sprang into action. She waved her hand around the bear-man hybrid bandit boss and then turned to heavenly doctor Ming with a look of despair.

"Head priest this one is far too bloodthirsty for me to deal with alone, what should we do?" she said, eyes wide open in mock fear, "We don't even have the tools to deal with it!"

By now the bear-man hybrid bandit boss was panicking. I mean, who wouldn't panic? He had just basically been given a death sentence.

If the head priestess couldn't help him, it was quite likely that there was no one who could.

He immediately responded, "What do you need for an exorcism head priest, head priestess?" he turned around like a flailing bird, making sure to look at them both, to not make Bai Jingfei enraged.

After all, he couldn't afford to make her angry. She had also said she couldn't deal with the spirit alone which meant that "head priest Tang" couldn't either.

Bai Jingfei shook her head and cast a secretive glance at heavenly doctor Ming, asking what to do next. She had finally reached her nonsense spouting dead end.

Heavenly doctor Ming, however, had not.

With his many, many years of experience both scamming and treating people, if he deserved the title of 'heavenly doctor' he most definitely deserved 'heavenly scammer' as well.

He also deserved other titles such as "heavenly suspiciously fake looking old man", "heavenly liar" and "heavenly short old man" but I doubt those titles are valid titles that are handed out.

"Just leave it…" he said, shaking his head back and forth, "There's no hope for you anymore. The exorcism will be far too-"

"Far too what?" interrupted bear-man hybrid bandit boss. He was clearly extremely desperate. He had clearly gotten conned. Hook line and sinker.

"Expensive." he said, giving Zou Deming the stink eye, clearly displeased at being interrupted.

He obviously demanded respect, both as heavenly doctor Ming and "head priest Tang". If he wasn't given said respect it was highly likely he would just walk off and not bother helping Zou Deming.

Bear-man hybrid bandit boss clearly understood that too from his reaction.

Zou Deming took a few steps back, stumbling, before he finally looked at heavenly doctor Ming and stared him straight in the eye. He was confident in one thing only.

His money.

"We can afford it, priest. We will pay for it in full."

The bandits weren't shocked at the outcome. They did have quite a bit of money just lying around from their last robbery. But whether the scammer hardened Bai Jingfei and heavenly doctor Ming would consider that a lot of money would be extremely questionable.

"You cannot afford it." said heavenly doctor Ming, lifting and then tapping his walking stick on to the ground with great force, commanding the entire region.

"How much will it be, priest? We can try our best to pay for it." said Zou Deming, his cronies in the back nodding their heads vigorously.

Whatever you were to say about the bandits, about how they lacked brains, hygiene, looks or anything else, the thing they did not lack was camaraderie.

They were willing to give up their savings for the boss. After all, they could always rob more rich people to get themselves rich again.

"The total will be at least a few thousand gold coins, there's no way around it." said heavenly doctor Ming, shaking his head as he stared at the ground as if he had given up on the bandit boss.

"A few thousand gold coins is nothing! I will pay it off, please help me, priest."

Heavenly doctor Ming was overjoyed hearing that. He had chosen the right victim after all. A few thousand gold coins of easy income.

While that was not very much to heavenly doctor Ming, any income was income.

He was glad to pocket any cash that came his way.

"So where is the spirit affecting you? Where do you feel pain?" asked heavenly doctor Ming, pointing to the bear-man hybrid bandit boss.

Zou Deming responded by turning his arms a little. His face was slightly pale and sweat was easily visible all over his forehead.

"I'm having pain in my left shoulder and chin. It just started. Perhaps the spirit has begun rampaging after sensing you two. You both are powerful priests after all."

Bai Jingfei and heavenly doctor Ming, upon hearing the description of the bandit boss's ailment could only think of one thing simultaneously. They both stared at Zou Deming, Bai Jingfei with pity, but heavenly doctor Ming with glee.

'Ah this bastard is going to have a heart attack…'
