Ch 2 Exfil

Once I finished searching through the room I walked toward the door to press my ear to it.

After a few long moments of bated breath I unlocked the door and pulled it open slowly.

the putrid stench of dead bodies and the haunting sounds from more than a dozen zombies munching away on the various corpses entered my ears.

I looked to both ends of the halfway and followed the one with an [EXIT] sign.

Only after passing a handful of rooms were my assumptions proved correct.

Just as is to be expected from a human lab, Every room had an experimental subject inside, their limbs are covered in injections and their bodies surrounded by high tech lab equipment.

The only significant difference between me and these lab experiments was that these poor sods were being slowly torn apart by zombies while I was free as a bird.

Luck seemed on my side as I walked past the rooms since the zombies didn't turn their attention towards me.

There was an eerie terror in the air, the few sounds were from the dozens of walkers feasting on the soft flesh from these test subjects which still laid strapped into their beds in a mostly comatose state.

I continued down half a hundred of these strange rooms before finding what I was looking for, an elevator.

There was one large fat zombie between me and the elevator.

the thing that caught my attention about the fat zombie was the empty pistol holster on its belt, the mags on the floor nearby told me his handgun was nearby as well.

With quick toss, a coin flew past the fat zombie and slid a few feet away.

*SWISH

*CLINK

*CLINK

"AGGRHHHHH.." The walker grunted out before moving rabidly toward the source of the noise.

In that moment I got low and rushed forward with my snow globe raised and ready.

With a heavy swing the snow globe flew forward and crunched against the walkers skull hard.

*CRUNCH

*SQUELCH

*THUD

Immediately I took the spare empty mags and holster then moved onto the elevator and over a few corpses.

When I moved to press the elevator controls I was met with a flashing message.

[ELEVATOR OUT OF SERVICE]

"Fucking hell...." I muttered before leaning down to search the bodies in the elevator while I was at it.

Immediately I found a CZ75B pistol drenched in blood nearby and took it into my hands.

It was full sized with a custom trigger package and tritium sights..... couldn't ask for a nicer pistol.

I wiped the copious amounts of blood off using the lab coat from a nearby corpse before checking the chamber and mag.

Only nine bullets left in total for now so I'd have to be conservative until I find a good stock.

After a bit more rifling through I managed a pocket knife, a set of keys and pepper spray from the corpse.

I would have taken it's pants but they were drenched in blood, shit, and piss so I'd have to pass.

Eventually I slinked my way inside of a locked staircase and began making my way upward.

Before long I ran into the first walkers in the stairwell.

{"HHHAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!"}x2

the two middle aged zombies in lab uniforms ambled towards me hungrily.

The first reached out Angrily with it's disgusting hand but was met with a dagger to the temple as a warm response.

*SQUELCH

*THUD

It slumped immediately from the finishing wound but his friend didn't seem fazed.

{"ARHHGGHHHGGAAA!!!"} It screeched angrily and came at me with it's mouth open, eagerly yearning for a bite of soft human meat.

I grabbed it by its throat and coat before judo throwing the ragged corpse over my shoulder and down the stairwell.

I watched as it tumbled and crunched on its way down for a few seconds before it's brain smacked onto a hard concrete corner and spattered out beautifully.

I continued up for another twenty flights of stairs until there was a loud Popping sound from the electrical system and the lights went off completely.

I pulled out the phone I had taken from the woman's corpse and used it to light up my path upward.

I moved with it's flashlight on for a few minutes before the sounds of a backup generator began to be heard which began with the faint humming of electricity.

The dim red glow of floodlights began to appear out of small led lights set up for emergencies.

Before long the emergency lights were soon seen through every small door window as I moved my way up.

There were plenty of floors I could have made my way into but leaving a place like this is something done sooner rather than later.

As much as I wanted to Speedrun the whole building, Eventually I reached a floor which really caught my attention since it's for was much more heavily reinforced and more than a dozen corpses lay outside.

There was a blood spattered sign beside the steel gate which told me what I wanted to know.

[S-A-R-C DESIGNATED FLOOR AUTHORIZED SECURITY PERSONELL ONLY]

The large steel door with it's intimidating design just asked to be entered so I had to give it a try since If any floor was good it had to be this one.

I checked the gates lock, it was very distinctive and immediately I began rifling through the corpses, one was bound to have a key after all.

After only a few minutes of rummaging through dead bodies I walked up to the door with a handful of keys.

The futuristic lock on the gate made finding the key rather easy since it was the only key colored in space gray and Blue.

With some faint electronic chirps the lock was undone and an audible click was heard.

The door hissed open and I walked inside with my pistol drawn.

Immediately I was confronted with a bloodbath....dozens upon dozens of corpses with blood half an inch thick in the carpet.

The bodies were strewn everywhere with missing hands and limbs while others had their heads blown out.

I found one corpse of interest as I looked around, it was a young soldier leaned against the corner of the room with a rifle in his hands.

He had a blood spattered face and his legs had been obviously eaten to the bone by zombies but he died from something else.

His M16 rifle had it's barrel in his mouth and the back of his brains were painted all over the wall.

I knelt down and carefully removed the gun without making too much noise.

"Don't worry lad, you did the right thing in the end." I spoke softly while laying the corpse down and searching through his packs for loot.

One full mag from his backpack and seven empty ones on the floor around him along with hundreds of empty casings, he definitely tried his best.

I snatched it all up along with the pistol from the young soldiers side, a 92fs 9mm....I preferred the CZ but this wasn't a time to start turning down spare guns.

Then I snatched the lvl 4 armor plate the man was wearing and loaded his stuff into the carrier before moving onward.

After moving through the barracks for a few minutes I heard someone speaking in the distance.

"It's all over!!! God!!! why have you forsaken me!!!WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US!!!"

A man's pained voice echoed throughout the hallway which made me stop dead in my tracks.

I raised my rifle and moved forward slowly to his voice until I found him kneeling against a wall.

From what I could see the man had his legs shattered in multiple places with corpses of walkers all around.

"That's not going to heal." I spoke aloud which startled him while I approached.

"Ah!!!.....oh you're not one of them.....no, I don't think it will heal....." The man spoke with a pale face while grabbing tenderly at his shattered legs.

"I won't be able to help you, and you'll die of sepsis before long I can help you out...also, Where is your Armory?" I asked softly while pulling my bayonet knife out.

"Over yonder.....not much left in there through, the strike teams took most of the good stuff before...before they were ripped apart." The man spoke sadly

"Many thanks for the mercy stranger...I wish you good luck in the days to come." The wounded man spoke and offered his throat.

"Any last words?" I asked while readying my sharp knife.

"I'll see you soon Hanna Bear....." The man muttered softly before my dagger flew forward and peirced into his throat.

The warm crimson blood flowed out with elegance.

He squirmed and grasped at his spraying neck for a few long moments with a smile on his face before his body went limp and began to leak out.

After he had completely expired I had to destroy the brain now so I turned his head to the side skilfully before driving my dagger into his temple with a sickening crunch.

Soon after I'd searched his body and found a ring of keys in his pocket which I snatched up and bolted toward the armory.

I was greeted with a thousand pound door with three distinct locks on its surface..... although only one was currently locked.

I grabbed the key ring and made attempt after attempt before landing on a large silvery key with a black eagle emblazoned on its side.

*CLICK

*CLICK

With a smooth turn the lock was open and tossed aside as I tugged on the huge door.

When the door was only a quarter of the way open, I heard snarling and hobbling of walkers from nearby and pulled my pistol.

*BANG

*BANG

*BANG

*BANG

*BANG

*THUD

*THUD

*THUD

*THUD.

Immediately four zombies rushing down the hallway dropped like a sack of Potatoes and the three others behind them stumbled over the limp corpses of their friends.

I rushed forward and punted a kick directly in one walkers brain before stomping on another hard and shooting the last which was struggling to stand.

*BANG

*THUD

Once they lay dead I checked my pistol and found only one round remaining so I rushed toward the armory door and heaved it open.

The dim floodlights came on inside the armory and I could see the faint glimmering of metal stands.

Immediately I pulled out the phone and shined the flashlight before digging into the supplies.

Decent khaki pants, a few pairs of socks, hiking boots of the right size and a decent belt.

By then I moved my CZ pistol into its holster and my knife was clipped onto my belt for when it was needed.

I then looked around the room for guns but all the racks looked to be emptied out.

Eventually I found the ammo closet luckily there were still a few cases of 9mm and 5.56 for my pistols and rifle.

On the bottom deck of the armory were empty ar mags which found themselves loaded and tossed into my pack before too long, I didn't know how long I'd need them so I loaded as much as possible until all the ammo was out.

I walked with My rifle in it's sling and a dagger in hand to find some food once I was done looting the armory for weapons and clothes.

On my way through the facility several zombies spotted and charged but all received a pierced brain as a response.

Eventually I reached the dining area and moved to search the cabinets in an attempt to find something decent.

I found the pantry open and began shoving cans of chili, fruit, bags of trail mix, chocolate bars, dried jerky, packs of sugar, salt, tea, and much more without any care for the noise I was making.

Once I was done with that I shoved water bottles, tissue paper, and wet wipes into my backpack before scurrying back out of the Security sector of the facility.

I reached the stairwell only to find four walkers ambling around sniffing the air, with a skilled hand I threw a crushed up can down one hallway which immediately caused the walkers to enter a distracted frenzy as I slinked past them and headed upstairs.

The dark dingy stairwell only lasted a few more minutes before reaching a final black door at the end.

I turned the handle slowly while pissing my ear against it but found it to be completely silent.

With a hard push the heavy steel door cracked open slowly and let in a gush of humid air from outside.

I stepped through the door with my rifle in hand but was only met with a small non descript lobby.

Everything was completely quiet except for a handful of walkers wandering around.

I moved forward to the exit quietly, I could see the ruins of Atlanta through the clear paned windows as I reached the glass doors.

I unlocked the latch quietly before softly pulling on the door.

I stepped out into the large patio of the government building I was in ..... Looking back at it was strange, to think there were human experiments going on so close to home.

I moved alongside the building as quietly as possible, but the jingling from my bag made a constant sound which I'd need to take care of eventually.

In the distance there were still the faint sounds of gunshots and the snarls of walkers but the city was deserted. . . .

(Elsewhere)

Lori sat beside a quarry alongside Shane and Carl as Dale explained how to make soap to everyone.

"So you take those ashes and set them into the lard for a few weeks, the lye will drip out of the bottom and like that we'll have soap if we ever run out." Dale spoke excitedly but everyone around the fire didn't pay much attention.

"Uncle Dale won't we just have to go to another store for soap??? Why do we have to make it???" Carl asked in confusion while Shane smirked and patted his head.

"It's just in case alright So..Carl...." Shane spoke and kissed his forehead softly.

Lori who sat nearby smiled softly at the sight....she had so recently lost Rick, and would be alone in the world if not for Shane taking her in.

At first Lori only needed the physical comfort but every day that passed was another day she fell deeper and deeper in love with her husband's best friend which made her feel horrible.

When Shane told her of Ricks death she didn't want to live anymore but now she was happy and safe with food in her belly for herself and her child.

Which most people at the moment could only wish for.

"Alright everyone, in a few days we have to do another supply run into town do we have any volunteers?" Shane asked confidently

"I'm in, I need a run too." Merle spoke while blowing his reddened nose.

"I'm in as well." Said Andrea

"I'll go" T Dog spoke from the side.

"Alright, Dale can you make a list of what we need?" Shane asked.

"Of course, I'll make it in the morning when we get first light and we can begin preparing for a few days from now." He spoke softly and everyone nodded.

"I'll go hunt for us in the morning, the kids need fresh food as well." Daryl spoke while clipping his nails beside his crossbow.

"Thank you Daryl." Carol spoke softly and he just nodded once before staring into the flames.

[Writing this Ch was surprisingly hard but it should get easier once we get into the group, I'm not really one to write a character alone NGL)(also, accidentally forgetting to save and having to rewrite is whack)
