Chapter 2

In the darkness of the night, the forest gave an eerie vibe; not at all similar to the glow it gave in the morning when the girls went to collect flowers.

In the darkness of the tress, Evie saw a black figure standing. Even in the brightness of the moon, she couldn't see what it was but what caught her attention was a pair of glowing orange orbs.

Cautiously, Evie stood up but the creature didn't move. It seemed to be observing her as she, it. Questioning her sanity, Evie slowly moved towards it.

She heard it growl again but it didn't scare her anymore. Something seemed to be pulling her towards the creature. Evie took one step then another and another.

She only stopped when she was within five feet of it at the edge of the forest. Now, it advanced, slowly coming towards her.

If she was in her right mind, she thought, she would have fainted by now or screamed or started crying or run away when she first heard the growl. But even now, she waited for it to reach her.

It stalked, no limped towards her. Evie wondered if it was injured. When it finally came in the light, Evie's breath caught in her throat.

There, beneath the moonlight, stood the most majestic wolf Evie had ever seen.

Its gray fur was ruffling in the light breeze; its ears alert its orange eyes analyzing her and the hint of a growl in its throat.

Evie was fascinated even though the wolf was scary. She kept looking at it and then she saw it. A stream of something dark and liquidy trailing behind its left back leg.

Blood and a lot at that. It must have gotten in a fight with an animal double its size.

Evie crouched down to its level and held out her hand in a friendly manner. The wolf looked at it not sure what to do. Then, he advanced and placed his snout in her hand.

Evie rejoiced at the sight and then carefully pulled the wolf to her. She laid him down and then inspected his leg. There was a nasty cut there and although it wasn't deep, it would take quite a few days to heal.

Evie decided there and then that she would take care of him. 'How did you get in such a sticky situation little guy?' she asked the wolf patting its head.

'Come on. I'll take care of you'. With that, Evie stood up and with the wolf, headed back to the village.
