4 Chapter 4 To The Fields!

It's now been around a week, and the creature can now understand people to some extent, although its communication skills are still lacking heavily. The creature, the girl, and the girl's father have all been getting along surprisingly well, despite the creature still fearing them. As the creature Thomas sat on the floor of the room against a wall with his jacket now on trying to read, Lily sat beside him helping him with all the words he couldn't understand himself. The two of them sat there for hours a day trying to read, but this time Jason entered the room carrying a short sword. Lily and Thomas both turned their attention to him immediately as Jason said, "Good news, I found an adventurer who's willing to teach you a thing or two about using a sword." Lily and Thomas both walked over together as Lily asked, "Really? Already?" Jason nodded as he said, "I'm surprised to, but he said he'd do it since his goal is to do as many good deeds as possible." Jason walked out of the room and had Thomas and Lily following close behind him down the stairs and into the inn's entrance. The stairs went down the side of the wall, so people could see you when you're going up and down the stairs and the room had a few dozen tables and a counter lined with seats, there was also a lady who stood there with short green hair and green eyes, most of the inn drunks seem to lust after her chest which appears to be about the size of softballs, her stature was about a foot taller than Thomas, but this was not surprising since most humans are about a foot taller than him. Her name was Cali, she typically helped Jason run the Inn by making meals and drinks for all of the inns guests, she also stays in one of the rooms at the inn. As the three of them reached the counter where Cali was standing, there was only one man sitting at the counter, he had short blonde hair and orange eyes, his outfit consisted of a blue shirt with sleeves rolled back at the elbow and some pants that seem to be the same kind that every beginning adventurer wears. Aside from his beginning looking gear, he did have some elbow and knee pads with a light looking piece of chain mail armor covering his chest and most of his shirt.

Jason and Lily sat down at the counter as the man asked, "So which one of these two am I teaching?" Jason pointed at Thomas as he said, "You'll be teaching him." As Jason said this, Lily pulled his arm and asked, "Can I… also learn?" Jason stared at her for a moment and the glanced at the man as he asked, "Can she?" The man stood up as he said, "Sure, helping two people today just furthers my own goal anyway." The man stuck his hand out to Lily and said, "I'm Toby, nice to meet you." As Lily shook his hand, she said, "I'm Lily… please teach me well." After shaking her hand, he stuck his hand out to Thomas and said, "And you?" Thomas stared at his hand for a moment and then shook it without saying a single word. But as he shook Toby's hand, his eyes began to glow slightly, and he heard a female voice murmur something that he couldn't understand that caused his head to hurt. As his eyes emitted a slight glow, Toby said, "That's odd, I've never seen something like that before." Once Toby let go of his hand Thomas held his head and heard the voice again, but this time he was able to hear it more clearly, the female voice said, "You just absorbed something from him, whatever it was it allowed me to wake up once again." The voice and the pain almost immediately disappeared once the female voice finished speaking. As Thomas lowered his hand from his head, Toby asked, "Are you alright?" Thomas stared at him for a moment and then nodded as he said, "Fine." Jason seemed nervous as he said "Oh… right… I forgot to mention that he's not too great at talking." Thomas didn't seem to pay him any attention as he thought about what the voice could've been, or if it was even real.

Jason handed Thomas the sword as he said, "I should have another one down in the basement if you give me a minute." Thomas continued to stare at Toby with a confused look as he asked, "Power?" Toby flexed as he said, "Yup, I'm super powerful!" Thomas seemed unsatisfied with his response as he started to poke Toby repeatedly in his stomach. Toby flinched at this and asked, "What is he doing?" Lily stared at him for a moment and then said, "He usually acts like this whenever he's interested in something." Toby blocked his stomach as he said, "Well, tell him to stop!" Lily grabbed the back of his jacket and pulled him backwards as she said, "You have to stop, you're bothering him." Thomas continued to stare at him intently even after Jason came back with another short sword. Jason handed the short sword to Lily as he said, "This is a dangerous weapon, be incredibly careful with it." Lily almost immediately unsheathed it and began to look at her reflection in the blade as she excitedly said, "It's so shiny." Jason nodded as he said, "I'd hope so, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a sword." Lily then sheathed her short sword and asked, "So where did you get them." Jason stared at her and said, "Well… I hold on to any items left behind, and if it isn't collected by the end of the month I assume they're not coming back to get it and then store the items in the basement in case they ever do come back asking for the equipment again… although… those swords have been down there for a few years now just gathering dust." As Lily and Jason continued to talk, Thomas and Toby continued to watch each other carefully, until Toby panicked and quickly said, "How about we start the sword lesson?" Jason glanced at him and then said, "All right, make sure they both return safely." Toby nodded as he excitedly said, "Don't worry, you can count on me!"

Toby began to walk out of the inn as he said, "Just follow me, I know a great place with plenty of weak monsters." As Jason heard this, he immediately stopped Toby and said, "Hold on, you didn't say anything about monsters." Toby stared at him for a moment and then said, "Oh… well, the best way to get stronger is to better your battle sense." Toby stared at him for another moment and then asked, "What kind of monsters will they be fighting?" Toby thought for a moment and then said, "I was thinking of having them fight baalloons, you know, those colorful ones that just drift around, they can't cause any real damage but being able to slay a few daily should increase your stamina and ability to wield your weapons." Jason thought about it for a moment and then sighed as he said, "Alright, but nothing more dangerous than those." Toby smiled and gave him a thumbs up as he said, "Of course, and even if something big and dangerous were to appear, I'd deal with it right away." Toby stared at Thomas and Lily and then said, "Alright you two, let's go out into the nearby fields south of here and I want you both to slay at least five baalloons each." Once Toby finished talking, a blue box appeared in front of Thomas that read "Quest obtained! Slay five baalloons!" Thomas stared at it for a moment and then noticed that at the bottom of the box something read reward with three question marks. After a short while the blue box vanished and then the female voice came out of nowhere and said, "Oh, he's what we'd call a summoned hero, you must've absorbed part of his system when you came into contact with him."

Thomas flinched at the sound of the voice and then checked behind him to see if someone was talking to him, but to his surprise, no one was there but Cali, and he was rather familiar with her voice. Thomas glanced at Lily who was now standing and staring at him as she asked "Are you alright." Thomas held his head and nodded as he said the word fine once more, and then followed her and Toby out of the town. Once outside Toby excitedly said, "Now then, like I said, I want you each to kill five baalloons, however, if you're feeling up to it, I'll allow you to hunt whatever creature you can find, you just have to promise me not to tell your father." Lily's smile grew wider as she said, "Okay, I promise!" Toby smiled as he said, "Good, now then, let's hunt down some monsters!" Once Toby finished talking the blue box reappear with new text, the new text read "Optional, slay other beasts, reward will be calculated based upon effort." Thomas stood there staring at it in confusion until it disappeared and then said, "Reward?" Toby glanced at him for a moment and then excitedly said, "Right, you can keep the coins for turning in the monster parts in as your reward, also you two should work together in order to hunt down some of the more dangerous things." Toby thought for a moment and said, "Yeah, if you guys wanna be able to beat shock rabbits and poison berry boars, you should work together." Lily quickly grabbed Thomas's hand and began to pull him towards a group of shock rabbits as she said, "I'm pretty sure these things are worth the most out of the creature's he mentioned." As the two of them approached the rabbits, Lily let go of Thomas's hand and pulled out her short sword as she said, "Come on, let's fight them, so we can get some money."

Thomas glanced at her as she stood beside him looking eager and then pulled out his short sword the same way she did a moment ago. Lily smiled as she said, "Alright, now let's fight them!" Just as Lily was about to rush in to attack them, Toby blocked her and nervously said, "Hold on, don't you think you're being a little too ambitious?" As Toby was lecturing her, Thomas had already seen what Lily was about to do and then immediately ran at the rabbits with the sword. Toby, however, didn't seem to notice and continued to scold Lily for her reckless behavior. Just as Toby was about finished scolding her he heard the sound of electricity building up, and as he heard it, he turned around to see Thomas standing in the center of a few dozen shock rabbits with their horns all charged up. Toby quickly turned his attention to him as he shouted, "Get out of there, they're about to fry you!" Thomas glanced at Toby for a moment, but before he could process what he had said, the shock rabbits all unleashed all sorts of electrical attacks at him. After a few moments, the shock rabbits all ran out of charge and yet, Thomas was still standing there perfectly fine, aside from his now frizzy and puffed up tail that had apparently absorbed most of the electricity. Toby stared at him for a moment and then said, "Did… his tail… take most of the attack?" As Toby said this, Thomas had finally realized what he was trying to say and then jumped away from the rabbits. Toby stared at him in disappointment as he said, "You… don't have to worry about shock rabbits too much, just avoid their horns, and you should be good." Thomas tilted his head and then asked, "What now?" Toby glanced at the shock rabbits and then said, "You're supposed to kill them using the short sword you have." Toby quickly unsheathed his sword and sliced one of the shock rabbits in half as he said, "Like this."

Thomas stared at the dead shock rabbit and then said, "Kill?" Toby nodded as he said, "Yes, kill them." Thomas stared at the short sword in his hand and then watched as Lily raised the sword above her head with both of her hands and then dropped the sword down on top of another shock rabbit. After watching them both kill one Thomas swung his sword killing one of the rabbits for himself but as he killed the rabbit a blue box appeared once more saying something about gaining three experience points for killing a shock rabbit. Once the blue box disappeared, Thomas glanced at Toby, asking, "What now?" Toby knelt down to the one he killed and then pulled a knife from his pocket and took the horn off with one easy movement as he said, "Next we remove the horns, they're high in magic so many people would like to buy them." Thomas glanced at the dead shock rabbit he killed and then bent down, grabbing the horn and just snapping it off. Toby stared at him as he said, "I'd recommend using a knife, snapping it like that kinda sacrifices the value of the horn, but apart from that, you're doing well! So keep up the good work and slay some more!"
