15 Chapter 15 Scarlett The Demon!

Upon reaching the city gates of SeaPoint the usual guards who stand by the gates guarding the city blocked Scarlett and Thomas as they said, "Halt, we can not allow a demon to enter!" Thomas stared at them for a moment as he asked, "Why not?" The two men stared at him in disbelief as the one man said, "You're joking, right? Demon's have been at war with all sorts of races for generations." Thomas stood there for another moment as he asked, "What if a demon just wants to live a normal life?" The men glanced at each other and began to laugh as they said, "As if that would ever happen, a demon would never turn against the demon lord, if they did that they'd be killed just like me and you." Thomas glanced at Scarlett and thought for a moment before saying, "Really? So, she can't come in even though she saved me from her own kind?" The men paused for a moment and seen Scarlett dragging a demon with its skull exposed in the front as they said, "That fire magic looks pretty strong for some low tier demon to pull off, she must be pretty strong… espionage to kill another demon with fire despite their resistance." The other man nodded as he said, "Yeah, I heard demons could withstand a few hundred degrees before even taking slight damage… but to look like this." The two men stared at Scarlett for a moment and then nodded at each other before one of them said, "We've decided to allow you to enter; however, we'll be holding the demi-human accountable for anything that you do." After hearing this, Scarlett stood there nervously as she said, "I-I'm… being allowed to enter a human settlement?" Thomas walked into the city with no hesitation as he said, "Well I did my part, you're free to do as you please now so long as it doesn't cause me any problems."

Scarlett continued to follow him as she asked, "But what about the other people or guards of this town? Won't they want to kill me?" Thomas glanced at Scarlett as he said, "The people probably, but those two guards will probably talk about you to the other guards do they shouldn't do anything rash." Scarlett began to think as she said, "But that means that a guard might still try to kill me tonight." Thomas entered the tavern as he said, "There's nothing I can do about that, but I would recommend getting a bit of a reputation going here with all the adventures… although a few of them have tried to kill me." Once they entered, Grace froze and then panicked as she shouted, "Is that a demon?" Thomas glanced at her as he calmly said, "Hello again, I'm back from killing the imps." The adventures all turned their attention to Thomas and Scarlett as one of the massive adventures stood up with a massive weapon that had an axe attached to a long pole and said, "I won't be allowing some demon to cause trouble here." Scarlett stood there looking terrified as Thomas said, "Oh right, before I forget I should probably say that her name is Scarlett, and She already got the okay from the guards." Thomas thought for another moment and then said, "Hey Scarlett, why don't you become an adventurer?" The man stared at Thomas as he angrily asked, "I'm not gonna trust the words of a demi-human." Scarlett stared at the giant man as she nervously said, "I-I don't think I'd make it as an adventurer." Thomas continued to stare at her as he said, "But I'm sure you'd be able to make a lot of money doing it, plus other adventurers wouldn't be able to kill you… well, that part isn't very true." As Thomas thought, the giant man angrily shouted, "Don't just ignore me!" Thomas glanced at the giant man for a moment and then back towards Scarlett as he said, "Oh yeah, you should be able to sell your dead demon friend."

Scarlett didn't seem to hear him as she stared at the giant man and began to apologize. After another moment or two, the giant man swung his weapon at Thomas, hitting the floor in front of him as he shouted, "You're lucky you're an adventurer you damned fox." Thomas stared at the axe and then smiled at the giant man as he said, "Your scare tactics didn't work before, and they're certainly not gonna work now." The giant man began to laugh as he said, "You got that right, although I'd definitely kick your ass if you weren't an adventurer." Scarlett seemed paralyzed from fear as Thomas said, "This big guy is all talk, everyone says he's one of the strongest adventures here, but I've never really seen him do much." After another moment or two, Grace walked over and said, "I'm going to have to bill you for the floor again." The giant man flinched at the sound of this, but Grace just said, "This is the third time this week, you should've learnt your lesson by now." Grace grabbed Scarlett's hand and led her into another room as she said, "I'll get power tested, so she can become an adventurer, then I'll get you your reward for the quest and any materials you have." After waiting for a short while, Thomas sat down at one of the tables and soon fell asleep as he yawned and mumbled, "Laying here feels nice… especially after feeling so exhausted." As he sat there with his head on the table, Scarlett walked back out of the room and sat down across from him as she said, "I got one of those adventurer plates like you recommended, that woman called Grace said that she'd help me if I need any help, she also gave me a few silver coins because of my comrade's horns were quite high in magic." Scarlett sat there waiting for a response as she asked, "Are you listening?" After about a minute or two, she poked him and said, "Please don't be dead… they'll suspect me for killing you." Scarlett raised him enough to lean him against the back of his seat and then noticed that he was sleeping as she let out a relieved sigh and said, "Oh… he's just sleeping."

Scarlett stood there staring at him for a moment or two before Cali grabbed her shoulder and said, "Hey demon, what are you doing to him?" Scarlett began to panic as she nervously said, "I-I'm not doing anything." Cali glanced at Thomas and seen that his arm was injured as she sighed and said, "He went and got himself injured again… and to top it all off, he fell asleep in a place like this." Cali picked him up and put him underneath her arm as she began to walk away while saying, "Seeing a demon standing around a place like this is pretty surprising, so please excuse my behavior a moment ago." Scarlett stared at her nervously as she said, "W-well it is my first time in this city… or any city really, and demons aren't completely trustworthy, so it's fine." Just as Cali was about to leave she said, "There's a place called The Rolling Ship Inn, if you need a place to stay I'd recommend going there, the man who runs it doesn't discriminate against any race, so it would probably be ideal for you to." Scarlett froze for a moment in shock as she nodded and said, "A-alright, I'll be sure to find it." Cali glanced at her as she said, "You won't have to find it if you just follow me." Scarlett seemed surprised and didn't seem as though she believed what she heard, but then began to follow Cali as she said, "Then I'll follow you." As the two of them walked, Cali asked, "I take it he ran in to you while killing those imps?" Scarlett nodded as she nervously said, "Y-yes, he's actually surprisingly strong for a demi-human." Cali glared at her for a moment as she said, "What do you mean for a demi-human?" Scarlett flinched as she nervously and quickly said, "N-no, I didn't mean it like that, I mean that he managed to kill a very strong demon pretty easily." Cali quit glaring at her as she said, "Don't base someone's strength on their race, in fact, I fully believe that he has the potential to go toe to toe with even a demon lord."

Scarlett flinched at the sound of this and stared at Thomas as she asked, "W-was he holding back when fighting the other demon then?" Cali glanced at her with a look of pity as she said, "No… I mean that anyone can become much stronger if they put in the time and effort." Cali stared at her with a slight grin as she said, "In fact, I believe that you may even be able to go above and beyond a demon lord as well." Scarlett thought for a moment as she said, "I have trouble believing that, just from hearing the stories of the old demon lords' power… it terrifies me." Cali stopped walking and stared at her, still grinning as she said, "You must not fear it as much as you'd think if you're willing to turn against the demon lord." Scarlett froze for a moment and stood there in silence before saying, "Actually, it still terrifies me… and I know as soon as the demon lord is awakened… I'll probably be hunted down and killed for being a traitor." Cali nodded as she said, "Well, that was your choice, so all I can tell you… is to try your best not to die when that time comes." As the two of them made it to the inn, Cali said, "I'll give you the first night for free, just don't tell Jason, he'll get mad at me for it." Scarlett stared at her as she asked, "Is Jason the man you told me about?" Cali nodded as she reached underneath the counter and grabbed some bandages as she said, "Yes, now if you'll excuse me, I should probably attend to his wounds." Cali glanced around at the empty inn lobby as she asked, "Will people be alright seeing me?" Cali nodded as she said, "Of course, just show them your adventurer plate." While bandaging Thomas's arm, she noticed that his left hand was quite burnt and asked, "Did that demon have fire magic?" Scarlett shook her head as she said, "He was the one with the fire magic." Cali sighed as she said, "Honestly, he's full of surprises." Cali glanced at Scarlett as she said, "Your room will be the last one on the left, just grab that key on the counter."
