9 Chapter 6 : Life and Death situation! Chance against the sky!

Zhang Feng scourged through the forest in search of food. He came into a wide pasture after walking for some time. Each time he passed a noticeable tree or location he used to mark it by engraving arrows pointing to the direction he came from. He did this, to avoid getting lost in the forest. As Zhang Feng entered the wild pasture he noticed a few berry bushes. "Plum berries! Great, these are sweet and edible. Looking at the number of these bushes, I can survive for at least one month", exclaimed Zhang Feng. Zhang Feng tore a piece of his clothing and packed some berries in them. Just as he was about to go back, he heard a sneering voice." I finally found you little brat! You gave grandpa a hard time finding you! Hehe, now quietly accept your fate." Zhang was shocked after hearing the voice. Turning around, he saw the Zhao Family soldier who had chased him earlier. Without wasting any thought, Zhang Feng ran swiftly. "Hehe, you can't run away now brat." said the soldier while chasing Zhang Feng.

Zhang Feng urged his legs to go faster. He knew that very soon the soldier will get caught up with him. As Zhang Feng was running, he felt a piercing pain in his left leg and he stumbled and fell. Glancing down he saw that an arrow had struck his leg. He looked at the soldier chasing him only to find the guy holding a bow and quiver. "What should I do now? I have nothing to defend myself! Oh yes! I have cultivated the Pure thought Sutra and my mental strength is even higher than Ye ancestor. But I have only practised the first level of the Sutra. I can't use my mental energy to attack." thought Zhang Feng. To be honest, Zhang Feng's mental strength was like a blunt knife. It was a weapon he couldn't use even when he had it. "No! I can't give up! I promised Uncle Xiao that I would live a life! Focus! Concentrate! Channel all your energy into a uniform shape and then blast it towards him." Zhang Feng tried to stable the flow of mental energy and when the shape got condensed, he blasted it towards the soldier. The soldier felt a sudden pain in his sea of consciousness. " Damn brat! How do you know to practice mental strength! You can't even cultivate yet. Ahh! Dammit! Stop this now!" yelled the soldier. After few seconds Zhang Feng couldn't hold on and gave up. The soldier collapsed on the ground weakly. " This should buy me some time", gritting of his teeth, Zhang Feng got up again and started running. But due to the pain, he could only limp. Suddenly Zhang Feng stopped in his tracks and his eyes showed despair. The was a cliff ahead of him. The cliff he was on was so high that he couldn't see the bottom of the cliff. Zhang Feng quickly contemplated his choices. He decided to turn around and go back to a different route. Just as he was about to leave, he heard a voice, " Boy, How dare you hurt me!". Zhang Feng saw the soldier blocking his escape. The Soldier felt greatly humiliated that he got knocked down by a waste who couldn't cultivate. He decided to that he won't give Zhang Feng an easy death. He will torture him for a long time before killing him.

As Zhang Feng saw the soldier approaching him, his heart finally lost hope. " Is this the end for me? Will I die in this life at a young age too?", whispered Zhang Feng. "Instead of getting tortured in the hands of this guy, I would rather die with dignity." Saying this Zhang Feng's face became determined. He took a deep breath and jumped off the cliff. As he was falling, memories of this life flashed through his eyes. His time with Uncle Xiao was the most precious memory to him. "Uncle Xiao, maybe we will meet each other soon.....Sorry that I couldn't keep my promise to you." Muttering this, Zhang Feng closed his eyes and accepted his death.

Cold wind was blowing on his face. The wind pricked his skin like thorns. Bang! Splat! Zhang Feng hit the bottom of the cliff with a splash. His whole body was broken. His bones of the lower body had turned to powder. He weakly opened his eyes. He glanced down and found himself in a puddle of his blood. He dragged himself and laid beside a rock. Zhang Feng took deep breaths. He knew he was dying. After at most 2 minutes he will bleed to death. But still, he was unwilling to die like this. He banged his bloodied hands on the ground with frustration. "What a pathetic failure I am..." said Zhang Feng weakly. His back felt cold against the rock. That similar feeling he had experienced in his last life during his death came back. " Heh, the feeling's really similar...." saying this Zhang Feng closed his eyes waiting for death to take him away. Just as he closed his eyes, he saw a flash of light near him. The light grew bigger and bigger till it completely absorbed him. The light was so bright that it lit up the entire dark bottom of the cliff. Zhang Feng felt himself getting sucked into the centre of the light. Suddenly the light vanished along with Zhang Feng.

Zhang Feng found himself in a vast starry sky. " Holy me! Where is this?" muttered Zhang Feng? The starry sky was quite similar to the life and death place he saw in his last life. But the only difference was that this starry sky seemed infinite. Limitless. Immeasurable. There was a primordial aura in the air, which was much more ancient than the one he saw on the Life and Death Scale. Suddenly Zhang Feng heard the sky tremble as a voice sounded filled with vicissitudes of ages,"

Present even before the beginning of time was I born,

Witnessed the creation of Heavenly Dao and Heaven itself,

Aloof, I was, as I overlooked the creation of all beings,

Eternal, my will, remained throughout the ages seeing the rise and fall of countless heroes,

Root of all causes was I, yet was the only one who ceased to exist,

Immeasurable my vastness, could no place sustain me,

Helpless, yet hopeful, waiting for someone for my will to inherit...

I AM CHAOS! "

Zhang Feng was stunned after hearing this. "Wasn't I dying just now? How come I am fine and my wounds are healed," exclaimed Zhang Feng. As he looked around, he saw a sphere floating ahead of him. The sphere looked small. Zhang Feng felt an instinctive closeness towards the sphere. He couldn't help but move towards it. However, the closer Zhang Feng got, the bigger the sphere seemed. This greatly astonished him. "How's this possible? Could it be my illusion or the sphere is really getting bigger?" whispered Zhang Feng. After what seemed like an eternity, when Zhang Feng finally reached the sphere, it turned out to be as big as a 10 storey building. The sphere was engraved with mysterious Dao patterns. One could get easily get lost by just looking at those lines. Zhang Feng knew that those lines contained a great mystery. Zhang Feng reached out to touch it. Just as his fingertips touched the surface of the sphere, the sphere trembled. It got smaller and smaller to the size of a pebble and sank into the sea of consciousness of Zhang Feng. " What-", just as Zhang Feng spoke, his head began to hurt like hell as a memory surface into his mind. Since the beginning of the beginning, which means a long time ago, the first entity which was created was Chaos. After Chaos was created, countless eras later Heavenly Dao came into existence. This later gave birth to Time, Space and the rest of the other entities. Very few beings knew about the existence of Chaos. As soon as Heavenly Dao gained consciousness, it gave birth to Time. Time too gained consciousness after millions of eras. Then came Space, Five elements, Life and death etc. They all gained consciousness some after another. Only Chaos couldn't, even though it was the first one to be formed. The reason was that Chaos was too vast. Literally enormous. The concept of Chaos itself was immeasurable. No universe or system could support it. As soon as Chaos tried to gain consciousness, it got immediately dissolved. This happened infinite times. All the other entities had already formed their own paths and Dao. Chaos's existence itself was taboo. That's why Chaos always remained incomplete. Heavenly Dao always kept a close eye on it as it was the only potential competitor of it. Chaos being helpless, tried extremely hard and finally accumulated a tiny bit of consciousness and hid it away from Heavenly Dao. It stored all the heritage it had created, hoping that someday, someone would come and inherit its hard work. Heavenly Dao noticed the unusual movement of Chaos and attacked it. A great war raged and all the entities like Time and space took part in it. They united against Chaos and tried to erase its existence once and for all. Chaos, having no choice performed a self-destructing technique that enabled him to gain a body for short period of time. Worlds were destroyed just by the battle fluctuations. They raged war for thousands of years, which finally ended with the death of Chaos. Many entities were severely inflicted during the war. After millions of eras, Living creatures came into existence by the combination of many Daos. These entities turned themselves into their respective Daos and went to eternal sleep. They weren't dead but were resting. Heaven presided over the universe as life growed day by day. No one knew about the existence of Chaos.

" It turned out to be like this! Now that we look at it, the life of me and Chaos is quite similar. The only difference is that I am too weak to cultivate and it is too vast to cultivate. But why was I chosen to get this opportunity?" thought Zhang Feng. Then he remembered the scene when he banged his bloody hands on the ground, which caused a few drops of his blood to spill on the bead which was lying there. Just then, another memory surfaced into Zhang Feng's mind. It was the war between Chaos and Heavenly Dao. The war was on such an enormous scale that Zhang Feng Feng couldn't even see what was going on. After the war, another memory of surfaced. It was about the world Zhang Feng lived in. The world they lived in was a huge landmass which had a surface area bigger than billions of planets. It was called as Spirit Fire World. Zhang Feng lived on a broken part of the Spirit Fire World. There were hundreds of broken parts floating around it. They were all fragments of Spirit Fire World which got broken due to a war that took place a long time ago. However the next thing Zhang Feng saw made his eyes pop out in disbelief. He even forgot to breathe for a second. "This....Th-...How is this possible? How can there be such a thing!" cried the astonished Zhang Feng• What Zhang Feng saw was that the shape of the Spirit Fire World was a human skull. "Could it be...." suddenly Zhang Feng thought of a possibility that he didn't even dare to imagine. But that was the only possibility which made sense from the following turn of events. The skull was the head of the body of Chaos which he condensed for fighting against Heavenly Dao. " What a huge body must Chao had! To imagine that just the skull would be this huge. Sigh...." sighed Zhang Feng. However, what puzzled Zhang Feng was that since billions of years, was there really no one who passed through the here and inherited this bead. Soon another memory emerged in Zhang Feng's mind. To obtain the recognition of Bead which was called as 'Origin of Chaos' one must be incomplete. Not in the sense that he couldn't cultivate, but in the sense that the body was born incomplete. As Zhang Feng couldn't cultivate so he couldn't see through his body and check his organs. Suddenly Zhang Feng and saw a transparent 3D image of himself, which showed all his views and organs. It turned out that Zhang Feng had many incomplete and missing Meridians in his body. His Dantian was already broken and had got dissolved in the blood as it was thin. Many of his organs were weak too. His heart had few less veins transporting blood which greatly reduced his life expectancy. However the next words that Zhang Feng saw made him widen his eyes.
