1 Chapter 1

Two weeks after Shi Mei took over Mia Shawl's body, she was accustomed to her new life. Frankly, she enjoyed it very much as there was no need to worry about desolate beasts raining down upon a city in hoards and fighting for survival. It was a complete relief when compared to her other life. At first, she was surprised because she never knew there was such a peaceful planet, but the memories from Mia Shawl's soul made her adapt to the new language and way of life easily.

Of course, she had to act like the original Mia when she was around her family and friends at school. After all, some bells would ring if she suddenly had a different personality overnight. She discovered one of the most delicious things that has ever been created: chocolate. It was so sweet and creamy that even some of the best spiritual fruits, like the Crimson Ice Weed, could not compare in flavor. Every time she passes chocolate, her mouth would begin to salivate in the need for more of the treat.

Mia began to cultivate her body as it was far too weak for comfort. Although this was a peaceful world, her previous experience as an Immortal cultivator made her feel unsettled with no spiritual qi in her system.

High school was a hassle as she was required to attend due to the government's laws. Mia truly didn't like wasting her precious time on some mundane knowledge of the mortal world. What use was mathematics in fighting? What use was the history of a young world when it could come to an end in a split second? Nobody cares about these core subjects when they are in a life or death battle with your fate and destiny hanging in the balance. Despite her complaints, she listened as she tried to cultivate. After all, she had an amazing memory due to her strong soul. Therefore, school was not a problem except for the fact that it takes too much of her time away.

The Immortal, now a young girl, had found out very interesting facts. That is, despite this being a peaceful world, there are legends of Immortals in a country known as China. This gave her hope that she would be able to find her community and demand resources from them so that she may return to her former glory as quickly as possible. However, she disregarded this idea as she would only get killed due to her lack in strength.

Although the new Mia hasn't spent any of her time with VR since she got here, she found out the the old Mia was a passionate gamer. Ever since she heard of the upcoming release of the next best game, <<Age of Chaos>>, she begged her wealthy parents for a capsule, so that she could get used to the way a body moves in virtual reality, and pre-order the game.

The parents complied in order to make their daughter happy. Glancing back on the girl's memories, Mia couldn't help but sigh. Her parents really doted on their child.

Well, long story short, <<Age of Chaos>> was due to arrive sometime this afternoon as the launch was the next day. The subtle bouts of her heart jumping outside of the normal rhythm was a remnant of the old Mia's will and excitement. Despite her reluctance, she decided to give the game a try in order to fulfill the wish her body seemed to crave.

When Mia got home, her parents had greeted her with wide smiles which made her heart jolt with anticipation. "Is it here?" She asked in a soft tone, as if she was afraid that she was speaking too loud.

With her eyes glittering, her mother, Janet, grabbed her hand and gently led her. "Come, my sweet." After they passed through the front door, her father closed it and placed his hand over Mia's eyes. "No peeking." The girl couldn't help but to giggle. This couple was cute together.

They were going in circles, Mia realized, but didn't mind as she enjoyed the warmth radiating from her parents. How long has it been since she was held by her parents? Although they were not her original parents, the love she and they felt for each other was very strong and tied by blood.

When they finally came to a stop, her father, Allen, lowered his hands to his sides and awaited the joy to shine on his little darling's face, in which it did. Mia had squealed and jumped with excitement as she rushed over to the sleek grey machine. She pressed a button and it opened up, revealing a comfortable gel bed which glowed a faint green. The lid had a screen on the inside and it had the game's logo on it.

After inspecting the object, she didn't forget to head over to her parents. She gave them a bear hug and whispered, "thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

Her good mood must have greatly impacted her soul as she was finally able to absorb some spiritual qi. Despite it being a small amount, it made her an official cultivator again. She felt relieved and despite her desire to continue in er quest, fatigue washed over her body and she fell into a deep sleep. It was morning when she woke up with a note on her nightstand.

"Dear Mia,

"We had to go on a business trip and probably won't be back for about two months. You are 18 now, so I'm sure you are capable of taking care of yourself. Be sure to feed the dogs and cats and tend to the garden. If it is too much, I give you my permission to hire someone for the yard work. If you plan on skipping the rest of the school year, make sure you get a GED. We understand that gaming is your life and that you cannot live without it.

"Please do not contact us unless it is crucial or an emergency. This trip is very important to us and your future. Have fun, but not too much.

"Love you lots, Mom and Dad."

A gentle smile brightened Mia's face. "How sweet." She set the letter aside and began her morning routine. After eating, she added feeding the animals, cleaning, and tending to the plants to it as well. By 10am everything was finished, and she was free to do as she wished. As for school, she didn't have to worry about it today as it was the weekend. She had two days to think about whether or not to continue schooling.

Plus, she didn't have to act like the old Mia anymore, which made her bubble with excitement. After all, a lot can happen to a person in two months which can lead to a change in behavior, especially when parents aren't around during the time.

"Well then, I think it is time to give <<Age of Chaos>> a try."
