Chapter 7 Enrollment and Test

Liang Chen and Xiu Ying arrived at the gates of the Mystic Cloud Sect, where they joined a long line of aspiring disciples waiting for enrollment. As they waited in line, Liang Chen struck up a conversation with a few other hopefuls, discussing their respective backgrounds and goals for joining the sect.

Meanwhile, a senior disciple of the Mystic Cloud Sect named Liu Yang noticed Xiu Ying's beauty and approached her with a charming smile. "Greetings, miss. What brings you to our esteemed sect?" he asked, glancing at Liang Chen and the others with a hint of disdain.

Xiu Ying hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Liang Chen stepped forward, glowering at Liu Yang. "We're here to join the sect, just like everyone else. Why do you ask?" he said his tone challenging.

Liu Yang chuckled. "No need to be defensive, youngster. I was just admiring your friend's beauty. Perhaps I could introduce her to some of our more distinguished disciples once we're inside?" he suggested, his eyes lingering on Xiu Ying's face.

Liang Chen's expression darkened, and he took a step forward, ready to confront the senior disciple. Xiu Ying touched his arm, urging him to calm down. "It's okay, Let's just focus on getting enrolled in the sect," she whispered.

Reluctantly, Liang Chen stepped back, eyeing Liu Yang warily. As the line slowly crept forward, he kept a watchful eye on the senior disciple, unsure of what his true intentions were.

As Liang Chen and Xiu Ying were waiting in line for enrollment, the Universal Guide suggested that they should try to hide their qi and aura at the level of Mortal Realm 6. The guide explained that their remarkable growth in cultivation might attract the attention of high-level cultivators with malicious intentions who may attempt to steal their cultivation techniques.

Following the guide's advice, Liang Chen and Xiu Ying used the Shadow Veil Stealth Technique to conceal their cultivation level, making it difficult for anyone to notice their presence. He just noticed that due to Xiu Ying's cultivation, she does look more beautiful.

Liang Chen imagined what would she look like 5 years from now.

As Liang Chen and Xiu Ying entered the spirit root and cultivation level testing grounds, they were surprised to see the results of their tests. Despite having broken through to Qi Refining realm level 1 and Mortal Realm level 8 respectively, their cultivation levels showed only Mortal Realm level 6.

Confused, they turned to the Universal Guide for answers. This includes not only cultivators but also testing stones and devices.

The testers cannot see their true cultivation level and are surprised by the high quality of their spiritual roots, but they can't seem to pinpoint the exact grade. Since their cultivation and age are above the requirement, they passed both Liang Chen and Xiu Ying.

One of the testers was the recruiter who recently went to their village and noticed that they both passed. His face is full of regret. He thought that if he brought back those 2, then he would have made some contribution to the sect under his name. He could only sigh hard as Liang Chen and Xiu Ying went away.

As both of them received their outer sect member badges and robes, they were escorted by an elder of the Mystic Cloud Sect to their designated living quarters within the outer sect.

The elder was a middle-aged man with a kind demeanor, and he began to explain the rules and regulations of the sect to the two newcomers. He emphasized the importance of following the sect's rules and the consequences of breaking them. Liang Chen and Xiu Ying listened intently, nodding their heads in understanding.

After a few moments, the elder brought them to a small room with two beds and a table. It was plain and simple, but Liang Chen and Xiu Ying were grateful to have a place to stay.

The elder then handed them a list of tasks they needed to complete in order to become official outer sect members. Liang Chen and Xiu Ying were excited to start their new journey, and they thanked the elder before he left them to their own devices.

As they settled into their new living quarters, Liang Chen and Xiu Ying couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed. The sect was much larger than they had anticipated, and they knew that the competition would be fierce.

But Liang Chen and Xiu Ying were determined to succeed. They had come too far to give up now, and they were both eager to see what the future held for them in the Mystic Cloud Sect.

As Liang Chen and Xiu Ying were settling into their new life in the Mystic Cloud Sect, they reviewed their assignment in order to be true outer sect disciples. They were to kill a demon beast with a cultivation level of mortal realm level 5 each. This will be their 1st time hunting a demon beast.

Liang Chen asks the Universal Guide how a demon beast is born.

The Universal Guide explains that demon beasts are born from the essence of heaven and earth and are the result of the accumulation of spiritual energy. They are essentially creatures that have absorbed enough spiritual energy to develop intelligence and sentience, and their bodies are imbued with a powerful and sometimes dangerous energy that can be harvested by cultivators. The Universal Guide also notes that the process of demon beast cultivation is a dangerous and unpredictable one, as the beast's energy can sometimes become unstable and cause it to go berserk, posing a serious threat to surrounding cultivators.

Liang Chen was shocked. He thought demon beasts were monsters that came from the underworld or were created from miasma just like in the novels or movies, But he never thought that they would be animals that absorbed spiritual energy. They are like animal cultivators.

Excited to prove themselves, they immediately set out to find the demon beast. As they searched, they discussed their battle plan. Soon, they found a demon boar with the strength of Mortal Realm level 5. It was a large, horned creature with thick fur and sharp teeth. Liang Chen looks at it weirdly since it is like a wild boar but with a single horn on the forehead and sharp teeth.

"I'll distract the beast with my lightning dragon technique," Liang Chen said. "While it's distracted, you can attack with your sword." Xiu Ying nodded, ready to show off her skills.

Liang Chen summoned his lightning dragon technique and charged toward the demon beast. A lightning dragon as small as a child's arm shoots out hitting the demon beast in the face. The demon beast growled and charged toward him.

Xiu Ying saw her chance and charged toward the demon beast from the side. She swung her sword, but the demon beast was quick and dodged her attack. Liang Chen saw Xiu Ying's predicament and used his lightning dragon technique again to distract the demon beast.

Xiu Ying took the opportunity to attack again, this time with a swift strike that hit the demon beast in the back. The demon beast roared in pain and turned to attack Xiu Ying. Liang Chen used his lightning dragon technique once more to distract the demon beast.

This time, Xiu Ying was able to land the killing blow. She swung her sword with all her might, slicing the demon beast's throat. The demon beast fell to the ground, dead.

Liang Chen and Xiu Ying high-fived each other, thrilled at their success. They collected the demon beast's horn and fur as proof of their mission completion.

They killed the second one but this time, Liang Chen did it by himself.

As they headed back to the sect to report their success, Liang Chen and Xiu Ying felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. They knew that they were on the right path to becoming powerful cultivators in the Mystic Cloud Sect.
