Chapter 002 - Flesh is unnecessary, right?

'Where the hell am I?'

'Did I actually survive that?'

'Why can't I sense anything?'

These thoughts blasted through Nathan's head rapidly, until he noticed the more obvious problem:

'Holy shit! I'm transparent!'

He had an obvious lack of numerous body parts he should have and apart from a blue aura spanning his 'body' he was almost completely see-through.

After taking in a few seconds to relax, he began to look at his surroundings. There was endless white as far as the eye can see, with large crowds of similarly transparent ghost-like figures as himself wandering aimlessly. Actually, apart from the blue psychic aura spanning his body, he figured he most likely looked just like the rest of them.

Something seemed odd however. Nobody but him seemed even a little confused at the situation, more… impatient? Nathan had no idea what the mindless masses were waiting for, but on the off chance he had gone done to some version of Hell, he was in no mood to find out. With this in mind, he began using his new, weightless ghost form to slink through the crowd of souls.

Meanwhile, in a far away place, a certain God and his assistant observe Nathan's soul…

'What an interesting man… I can use him…' thinks a certain mischievous God.

"Sir Mattos, I understand you admire that soul but please, you have already gotten into so much trouble recently, if anything else happens I'll have a heart attack." Says an overworked yet still perceptive Assistant.

"The hell Sanza? Did you read my mind?"

"No sir, frankly, it was fucking obvious what you planned to do." While still maintaining a polite tone, the assistant gives off a tone that communicates just what he wants to say: 'Do anything and I end you.'

"But come ooooooon, wouldn't it be such a waste to just send him off to another normal life?"

"Sir, I just don't understand what you see in him?"

"Sanza, when I tried to scan him, I felt shivers down my spine. Seriously. That ESP stuff the humans use? Fucking terrifying man. I much prefer magic."

"He made a God fear him? In the afterlife?"

"I know right! Just feeling that insane power gave me both the most fear I've felt in my life and quite possible the best idea I've ever had. Here's what I need you to do. Send him down into the same world as Lumere's champion. Oooh just imagining the shock on her smug face would be so PERFECT!"

"Sir, while I appreciate the problems you may have with young Lumere, but may I remind you that you have already used your champion in another world. With the problems that one is causing, we won't be able to have another for millennia…"

"Oh please, who says he needs to be a champion? Just say we are 'uniquely rewarding' him, reincarnate him in, memories included and we should be fine!"

An irritatingly haughty grin appears on Mattos's face once he suggests his seemingly flawless plan. Well, not quite flawless…

"Sir, you are just lacking in the divinity required for such a feat. If we saved up, we could perhaps squeeze out just enough to get him back his memories by the age of 95." Sanza said, professionally ignoring the very punchable expression on Mattos's face.

"Shit. That would be too late wouldn't it? Damn short arse human lives. Fine, I'll find another solution."

"Here we are! A dead man, in his final moments wanted us to save his sister! Send in the soul to this man's body!"

"But would he not be disoriented if left suddenly in a whole new life?" Sanza explained, not forgetting all the tedious paperwork that would be surely left to him because of this.

"Let him have that little gadget of his. You know, the one in his head?."

"The A.I.? That could work… Fine. I'll go figure out how to make this happen."

Shortly after leaving the room, the assistant begins to pray, not for himself but…

"Lord help the soul that man takes interest in…"
