60 60 Losing ground

Dark was watching the events unfold, he could hear the heart felt words coming from Lily as she spoke. Her confession at the end had sent a shiver down his spine. He knew that he had recognized her, why had he not been able to place it? His best friend on earth was a girl named Kayla Anderson. She had been a firecracker, always The first to act in a situation. She always had a quiet voice, but her words were full of meaning.

Lily stood in sharp contrast to that girl. She was still quiet, and her words full of meaning, but somewhere along the way she had lost the initiative she once had. Not to mention they looked similar, but Kayla had always kept her hair short, and had dyed it black. You could often see her blonde roots sticking through.

She had a brother, that brother had been deployed with him, even though they ended up in different units. He had been a marksman, not anything special really, he was simply average. When Darks unit had been sent on that mission, the one that ended his.life a sence of dread had filled him. He knew that unit was the one her brother had been in, and he did not have the courage to face her If her brother had died.

Dark was interrupted from his thoughts as he noticed his hand has started to have a reaction. While the girls were facing off against Knight and Brutus he noticed a small vortex of essence has started to form around his skeletal hand. The essence that had been so varied around it slowly changed as blood red vampiric essence began to form, slowly infecting the other essences that were present.

The vortex seemed to have an effect on the portal in front of him. The once black portal began to take on a blood red shade. The effect was slow, if one was not looking they would not even notice the subtle changes that were going on inside of it.

=======================================

Outside of the void the girls were facing off against the undead. Ash had an excited look on her face as her threats struck out repeatedly against Knight, and yet they were blocked again and again. Ocassionally a thread would be cut, sending it flying, and yet a new thread would grow in its place. As a portion of her threads continually struck against the enemy another portion was building a cage, the cage surrounded the reo of them. not allowing knight to advance.

The snake was not having an easy time. Brutus continually thwarted its attacks with his large great sword, his muscles bulging with each hit, but he was not forced back in the slightest. The snake began to grow angry, it's attacks growing more frantic with each passing moment.

Brutus continued to advance towards the shrine, His greatsword swinging rapidly as he not only blocked the incoming attacks but managed to counter attack as well. Large cuts began to appear on the snake, and blood began to seep into from its wounds.

Lily watched in horror as their unexpected companion continually recieved damage, It would not be long before the snake was defeated, its movements had already slowed due to the increasing amount of wounds that appeared on its body. She cursed herself for not having a more offensive ability, Her illusions were strong but they would be of little help in this situation.

She thrust out with her mind power, she had been ignoring her weapons as she had gained a large advantage with her illusions, but she began to realize her own weakness. Two Flying blades appeared, her hidden weapons powered by telekinesis. She sent the blades flying towards brutus, hiding them in illusions.

They approached like lightning, but Brutus seemed to sense something was wrong as he thrust his blade towards the incoming weapons. His movement was quick, But lily's response was quicker. She had the blades deviate from their course as the struck into his arm and leg. Coagulated blood spurted from his wounds, and a scowl.appeares on his face. However the wounds did not seem to impede him in any way as he once again struck out against the snakes rapid attack.

The battle continued like that, Lily's blades striking against Brutus, causing little to no damage, as the Snakes attack proved useless as they were blocked. The tempo of the battle changed however as Brutus countered with a brutal swing. The head of the snake went flying, cleanly severed from its body. Lily was forced to dodge as the head flew towards her, rolling to a stop at the foot of the alter.

A grim look appeared on her face as she saw that there was nothing impeding Brutus from advancing. On the other battle front Lily seemed to be on the losing end as her threads were continually cut to shreds. The threads were snapping out at random as they were severed, some of the cords striking towards Knight but the majority snapping back towards Ash. Small wounds had appeared all over her body as she was repeatedly cut by her own threads.

She was forced to retreat, leaving the cage she had built. The threads quickly sealed the hole she had bade, but she knew the cage would only hold for a few minutes against the strikes of the undead knight. she could not help but pa ic in her heart. "Is this where we die? she thought? "Do we die uselessly trying to protect the relic of a dead king?"

A look of determination filled her eyes as she looked at the advancing undead duo. "If I am to die protecting the spider king than so be it. they will not take what it is his while I am still alive."
