6 Chapter Six

Greenbrook

Of course, when all Greenbrook wanted was sleep, Trailblazer had to show up and mess up the plan. The forest-born had been nagging Greenbrook all day as his magic-chosen mentor. Greenbrook had had enough of him for today.

“Trailblazer, what are you doing by my cabin?” he asked.

The teen turned and smiled.

“It’s just ‘Trail’, Green,” he said, “And come see.”

Before Greenbrook could do more than stand angrily, a chorus of angry hisses erupted from the fields next to the cabin. Five small lizards were running towards Trail with green scales and open mouths. Greenbrook was so startled it took him a moment to realize that they were illusions. But once he did, he reached out and dissipated the magic into the air. Trail nodded approvingly.

“You picked up illusion breaking already. Was there a problem with that in the desert?” he asked.

“A little, yes,” Greenbrook admitted.

Trail clicked his tongue in exasperation.
